My thoughts and wishes are with London as well.
I'm with those who've said there's something fishy about this. It doesn't seem like Al Qaeda's style. An organized-but-carefully-limited strike like this is a plea for attention (as folks have said, likely no lasting economic fallout, and surprisingly few casualties), but AQ are the only ones to claim credit.
The only possible long-term effect would be to make Al Qaeda's operations harder on account of boosted security and p*ssed off Englishmen. I'd think they'd've learned that lesson (well, bar the angry English) with the US.

That is true, if she is a nurse she may be on the ground helping out. Easier said than done but try not to worry too much.
London is a huge place and only a tiny proportion of people will be involved directly - apart from the fall-out with tube closures (the Central Line derailment was bad enough, Christ knows what this will be like. My heart goes to everyone who will experience that chaos.)

Of course, this may be one of the last gasps of Al-Qaeda. They've been under sustained attack now for 4 years; previously they've been under the cover of "collatoral damage", knowing that they were unlikely to be struck by missiles if they hid in villages with civilians. That's gone out of the window now (for better or worse).
If this was a "We're still here" stunt, it might yet back fire. They changed the world on 9/11, horrified in Bali and Madrid. But what happened today wasn't the stuff of nightmares that we'd previously discussed: dirty bombs, chemical warfare, mass suicide bombings. We've had twenty five years of bombs in buildings, railway stations, etc, etc. The capital has been designed to resist such attacks for decades.
This won't change London and that may prove to be a tactical blunder on their part.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in London, also. My first thought when I heard the news on the radio in the car on the way to work was "I hope all the London Browncoats are alright!!"

) - the odds are anyone we know are just caught up in the overall disruption. Other than the already stated cases of known involvement, of course. I'll keep hoping for the best for all of them.
As for the Al-Qaeda Or Not question, it is looking more like them, I think, especially in light of that statement that got released. You can read it here:

It seems like it's not Al-Qaeda because the fatalities appear to be so low. But disruption and fear are the primary tools of the terrorist, so it still could be.

Almost certainly. I mean, how often does a terrorist attack like this actually make the victims do what the terrorists want, anyway? It always strengthens their resolve against their attackers. Every time. That's one of the things that makes these sort of attacks so pointless. It'll just make us more determined to blast the living hell out of them. How does it help their cause?

Particularly when their "goal", such as it is, is so unreachable. "Become a fundamentalist Islamic regime". We'd rather die. Or perhaps instead, we'd rather kill every last one of you.
Perhaps a historian here could tell us, how many democracies have been turned into dictatorships (that remained that way).

External statement from Great Ormond Street Hospital
Thursday 7th July 2005 at 12.05pm
Incident in London today
All patients in Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) are safe
following the incidents in London this morning. All Staff and families
have been advised not to leave the premises until the hospital receives
a clear update from the police.
GOSH does not have an accident and emergency unit but we are ready to
admit patients referred to us from other hospitals as required. We
have introduced well- established continguency procedures and are on
standby along with the rest of NHS to treat and receive any admissions
if required.
All elective admissions and surgery have been cancelled for today.
Families are currently being notified. All landline and mobile phone
services have also been disrupted.
We do not have any further information at present but will provide
updates if we have more news.
