I've watched BtVS:S3 several times over the past few years. Five times? Six? Maybe more. Probably more. But I've never seen an explanation for Wesley working with Giles in the Library. I mean, ostensibly, Giles is THE school librarian. They really don't need two of them. What is Wesley's justification for being on school property all the time? The Watcher's council couldn't have pulled that many strings, right? Snyder seemed to be in the Mayor's pocket--he wouldn't have allowed it, in my opinion.
Anybody?

That's a good question. My guess, and when I say guess, I mean total and complete speculation (because they never addressed it in the series), is that, as Buffy's watcher, Wesley had to go where Buffy was, which was the library. Because you know very well that if Wesley had tried to get her to meet him somewhere else, Buffy would have told him that he was welcome to go meet there all by himself.
I don't think he was employed by the school in any way. I think he just hung out there and got in Giles' way.

They sneak him in on his first day and he camps out in the stacks every night after that. Simple deduction really ;)

I just figured that if anyone asked him what he was doing there, he'd just pull the old "Updating the library with rare books from London, don't you know" thing, and keep going without missin' a beat.
Would work on me Chrisisall

I figured the school didn't know/care about him. The mayor most likely wanted to leave him in place. I mean Faith would have told the Mayor that Wesley is a bumbling idiot who was causing more harm than good most of the time anyway. Heck Wesley cut Buffy off from the council all by himself. That's the kind of enemy a guy can stand having around.

Well I hadn't thought about this before, but now you mention it I figure that Giles if anything is the redundant librarian who is maybe hanging around assisting Wesley the new librarian to take over the necessary duties. This would keep Snyder at ease as to why there are two brits/librarians running around his school.
That said it's a very interesting question, and now gives me another excuse to go through season three again and see what interaction, if any , there was between Snyder and Wesley....
So cheers
