For those of you who predicted that Episode III would tank after the first week:

I am attributing it to a very strong fan base and repeat screenings from said base.

Serenity should do really well, what with the fan base and all.

To sum up: Fan-Base.

As a die hard Star Wars AND Firefly fan I must say, that you must hug your local Star Wars fan, for we are huggably soft! Plus , most do have interests beyond just SW, so it's a fan base that the Browncoats can launch a frontal attack on and convert some heathens! =shoots her rifle=

=plays with her Darth Vader figure= Yes, you and me Darthy, we shall rule the galaxy as Master and Figure.

And hey ,yeah I'm planning on seeing Serenity more than once too! So Serenity can't get jealous!

#1 I never thought it would tank...I thought it would suck but make an obsene amount of money while doing it...

but really
#2 The first weekend (used lightly since they opened it on Thursday at midnight) they made $200,000,000.
and the second weekend they made $70,000,000.
which is not really what you want...you want as many or more people to go the second week.

but I hope it will build so that the second weekend is better than the first.

How can they continue to say that box office revenues are in a slump based on what these movies made this weekend? 61mil for Madagascar, and 60 for The Longest Yard, on top of the 70+ for Star Wars...That does not sound like the continuation of a slump to me...

this is one of those things that annoy me...
movies like 'House of Wax' (with Paris Hilton)
and Orlando Bloom's 'Kingdom of Heaven' or Will Ferrill's 'Kicking and Screaming' don't make very much money their opening weekends (and far less after that)
so the producers & theater owners blame the public and say that there is a box office slump...

They never consider that the movies are awful

The producers of 'Enterprise' did the same thing, they have bad scripts and then blame the fans for not watching the show...and write it off as though the franchise needs a rest.
When in fact all of television AND the movies need to hire some talented writers!

(please excuse the rant...I had to get that off my chest)

Hell honey, rant away. I'm right there with you.

Hire talented writers, let them create, don't screw with what they do. Stop with the stupid lame bs and then, I'll go to a movie again.

I haven't been to the movies since Napoleon Dynamite. It was the last thing I was willing to pay $8 to see.

CORRECTION: I saw Serenity the other night and I'm willing to pay up to $20 to see it again in September.

Okay, here's my personal rant of the day:
Here's what is really sad, I'm working on "Meal Ticket" again and I keep envisioning my bad guy as Alan Baldwin AND Michael Shanks. I love me some Jayne and some evil Dr. Jackson.

I've got to pick one or the other in my head or the editor is going to have a stroke fixing my wandering description.

Think yourself lucky - OK, so this is in Central London so - you know - tourist prices! - but the cinema I saw Ep III in now charges £17.00 for its top price tickets. With the current exchange rate that's roughly $30.00.

What the? $30.00 for a movie? I paid $6.00 for a matinee of SW epIII and still felt like I'd paid too much for it. [do]They charge each viewer Shipping and Handling for the film? Yikes that's steep.
