Top of my list, for a completely different reason. I absolutely hate Mathew Broderick's character. I bought it 'cause I remembered & love everything else about the movie but had completely forgotten Mouse. As I watched it, and was reminded that he was the biggest character in the movie, that bothered me so much I gave the DVD away.
Shame, really; I liked him in that other movie he did with John Wood.

I felt that way about the movie "The Abyss" when I saw it at the theater. I really liked the story and characters, and the action sequences and special effects were amazing. The scene where Bud has to watch his wife drown, was so well acted, and painfully real. The dive sequences were stunning to watch, and the whole movie felt so real. The thing that ruined it for me, was the aliens seemed to almost be an after thought. When the movie ended, I felt like something was missing. It just didn't work!
Years later, Jim Cameron was able to do a Director's Cut of the movie that fixed most of my concerns. That version is considerably better than the theatrical version the studio put out, and one of my favorite science fiction movies.
I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

MacBaker, that's exactly how I felt. In the theatre I felt I had seen almost a really good film that had no climax or message, only to learn that the studio made Cameron trim it for release!!! The whole reason the aliens were there was gone. It went from being a sorta interesting flick with some great moments to one of my top 10 favourite movies of all time when the directors cut came out(now if they could just release an anamorphic version on dvd, i'd be perfect!).

I actually read the novelization of the Abyss before I saw the movie. It added so much backstory that I really felt more connection to the characters from the start. As a result I guess, I've always loved the movie. I've never seen the director's cut though, I'll have to look for it...

The director's cut of the Abyss is quite an achievment. I think it's Cameron's BEST work (if you don't count the Dark Angel finale he directed...okay, I'm kiddin'...sorta).
Only drawback to it is, non-anamorphic on the dvd! It still looks mighty pretty, but anamorphic would've given it that extra shinyness.

The Abyss, liked it too a point, fatal flaw? The benevolent aliens coming to straighten mankind out, once again. Thats been done to death.
There are many of Speilbergs works that I want to love, but he has a bad habit of stretching things a bit too far in most of his films.
E.T. -When the government people march down the center of the street towards Elliots house. Hardly realistic even in the context of the story.
A.I. -The artificial kid being allowed to live one more day with his mother all to himself. Seemed a bit creepy to me, as in incestuous creepy. Also from from the same film, the circus where they destroyed robots.

Ladyhawke: The score. Haha. The guy had the London Symphony Orchestra or something, and he made them play 70's porn music. You can't take the movie seriously if you burst out laughing everytime the music comes on.
AI: Damn, I thought those were aliens too. I have the same problem with both this movie and Minority Report--I want to like them, but they're just too damn depressing. I hope Spielly doesn't do the same for War of the Worlds.
Charmed and Farscape: Never could get into them. I tried. But I couldn't stand Buffy either, until Firefly convinced me to give it yet another try. On my list of DVDs to rent and try again.
Dark Angel, S2: Loved the first season. Second season got too weird with all those mutant tangents. I watched it for Jensen Ackles (Alec), but then it grew on me. Torn, torn, torn.
Jack of All Trades and Cleopatra 2525: Ah those good old days. Guilty pleasures and gratuitous midriffs--if they improved, they wouldn't be the same. "Porno for 12 year olds." That is very funny.
Here's my contribution to the list. "They Live" by John Carpenter. Brilliant concept that I love. Hate just about everything else. I want someone to remake this movie so badly, please.

The Dark Angel series was kinda like life; it starts out making perfect sense, but gets weirder as you go on.
I could mostly handle it.

The 90's movie version of "Lost in Space" makes my list. That movie would have been incredible, if not for the fact that it totally sucked moose schlong in every possible way.
