You're correct, at least they got that right. And, I will admit that, even though the movie sucked, casting Gary Oldman as Dr. What'shisname was brilliant... until they turned him into a giant spider... then it sucked again.

I was very disappointed by Return of the King when I saw it in the theater. The meloncholy and deep sense of loss that I felt reading the book, just wasn't there. The scene of hobbits jumping on Frodo's bed in slow motion seemed to go on forever. A Aragorn's jouney didn't convince me. The movie overall (to say nothing of the trilogy) was certainly magnificent, but I just felt, "ach, another Return of the Jedi, almost brilliant and perfect, but ultimately a little off the mark."
Thank the gods, for the extended version! I just saw it last night and they fixed EVERYTHING! I finally, finally saw Viggo playing Aragorn. How could they cut all that stuff with the palentir (pardon my spelling)? And the Mouth of Sauron??? Those are crucial if we are to admire Aragorn or see him as any kind of king that's gonna make a difference. And the stuff about the sword and Saroman's fall and, and, and...here finally, was the Return of the King I remember. The four endings which seemed to tip the theatrical version over into bathos, were earned after the whole story is actually told. I don't know how the studio could have done that to Jackson's epic. Thank the gods for the extended version.
Slightly off topic, but only slightly: David Lynche's Dune, brilliant and terrible in it's theatrical release, was actually amazing and near perfect in the 6 hour director's cut, but I cannot find that version anywhere! Anyone else seen it, or know how to get it?
