Yes, yes, I know this is probably going to be a short thread, but I get a kick out of writing these anyways. I'm going to put mine in spoiler fields even though I said it in the title. You do what you want, okay! So here it is:
The Top Ten Things I Learned From Watchin The Serenity Trailer:
Select to view spoiler:
1. Waiting for 4oclock on the day the Serenity trailer came out sure did make the day fly by/drag on forever!
2. Look, Look! She's flying again! Look!!! LOOK!!!
3. "I aim to misbehave." Couldn't have said that any better!
4. Apparently Jayne, claiming "Let's be bad guys!" and jerking down the zipper on his shirt to reveal a big damn gun is a good way to make the ladies swoon!
5. River kicks ass. If I ever see Summer Glau in a barfight, I'm ducking and covering!
6. The most dreadful response you can say to the phrase "I don't kill children." is, in fact "I do."
7. Reaver projectile hardware provided by Black and Decker.
8. Wash has a pretty strange definition of the word "interesting".
9. The best way to get Browncoats to come to your movie? Show a trailer with not one, but two Captain Tightpants quickdraws! Also, splitting the Universal logo into Uni and 'Versal...Aww..you really do listen to and like us!
10. You have hurt the Captain, you have threatened the Captain and his crew. You are stupid enough to say "I'm unarmed." when he isn't. What did you think was going to happen?
And there's a few to start with. Anyone who's been around here for any significant amount of time knows that I can go on and on with the same subject, so keep looking out for this one!
Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

I can only think of one thing I learned that I didn't expect, and that is...
Select to view spoiler:
Simon is the bad guy. (?) I guess I always kinda new that considering how he treated Kaylee and what a ponce he was. Just kinda surprised to see it play out.
Although, I freely admit that I could be delusional.

Here's a question...
Select to view spoiler:
Where did you get this "Simon is the bad guy" theory?

I took that as
Select to view spoiler:
Simon busting River out of the alliance hospital back in the day, with him dressed up as an alliance badass to get into the room in the first place

how about this one in non-inviso text...
The planet they are battling in orbit of is Earth that was... interesting...

I feel strange writing in "all spoiler font," but here it is anyway:

Like I said, I may just be delusional cuz I never liked Simon.
The biggest thing is the clip of River kicking Simon in the head. And it didn't look like much of a love tap.
It's easy to miss in the trailer, so you have to see it almost frame by frame (still-flyin net is great for that). Simon's dressed in an Alliance uniform - as he is in other shots in the trailer - and has his back to the camera, so all you could see was a real angled profile of him and River doing her kung-fu thing on him.
There's another shot of Simon on the bridge of what appears to be an Alliance ship. He doesn't seem to be surrounded by guards, so maybe he's not there against his will. And, I heard from someone way back after the first screening that the movie ends with him in the hands of the Alliance; though, that was a nebulous remark, if I recall correctly.
All that, especially River kicking his ass, got me to thinking.... Simon always said how River tried to ask for help over and over in her letters, which made me think that she wouldn't give in to whatever They were doing to her. Maybe the only way to really "break" her was to have her brother, who she clearly loves, fake a rescue, make her feel safe, and then betray her. That would effectively mean she has finally lost everything. What would there be left to fight for? Then, They figure, she'd give up and be their Toy, whatever that may be. Love, betrayal and redemption - not to mention the whole "us versus the universe," which is why he's so damn good at writing Astonishing X-Men - are big Whedon themes....
So there you have it. My delusion in writing. I am very tired. Must go to bed now. Cheers.

I don't believe Hell's Kitten...

Simon is the bad guy? I think you're jumping to conclusions. At least in the scene with him in Alliance uniform and River in the chair. Have you considered he might be disguised as Alliance and that he's rescuing her? That's what it looked like to me anyway.

GreenFaerie: That was the impression I got as well.
And Pez, I totally agree with #4.
Every time I see it I say, "Hell, yeah," then swoon a bit.

I completely agree with you as well.
After everything that happened to River, why the hell would Simon ever become a fed? And River kicking Simon is hardly evidence that he is "Omg!WTF!EVIL!" since we know she has done crazy things before... how do we know that Simon isn't trying to keep River from doing something that could wind up getting her hurt, only for her to try and kick him in the head?
sorry for the mini-rant... i'm just a little bit protective when it comes to my Simon

MAL: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on and find your own.
SAFFRON: You can't just leave me here, on this
lifeless piece of crap moon...
MAL: Sure I can.
SAFFRON: I'll die.
MAL: Well, as a courtesy, you might start
getting busy on that, cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.
