Okay, so my local grocery store is called "Your Independent Grocer." Been going there since well before a certain series debuted, so it never really struck me, until yesterday.
I went in to pick up some necessities, and as I was walking out, I happened to pass by the seafood section. Now, this store chain has the word "independent" stamped across their bulletin boards, sign, labels, bags etc. Over the seafood counter was a chalkboard advertising the specials of the day. For some reason my eyes and mind caught on the words "INDEPENDENT LOBSTERS" and I started grinning like an idiot.
Y'know, uncooked lobsters do have kinda a brownish colour. . .

My four year old daughter brings me her broken sunglasses:
"Fix 'em Daddy." Tearfully.
"Honey, sometimes a thing gets broke, can't be fixed." I said, blinked, and went on with what I was doing.
To my son in the next room: "You better not be aimin' to misbehave, son."
Picking up one of my wife's daycare kids: "This boy weighs a solid ton."
You see, I'll say these things, think for a moment where I heard it, remember, and then kick myself for not knowing in the first place.
My boss: "Did...did you just speak another language?"
Me: "Yes sir."
Boss: "What?"
Me: "Chinese." And, I leave before he can ask me what I said.
Wish I could remember what it was that I actually said to him.
Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

My cadets have learned that "gorram", "lu-suh" (phoenetically), "go-se", and "pi-gu" are words that they cannot get suspended for using.
They've also picked up from me adding "-ical" to the end of certain adjectives. . .
poetical
ironical
moronical
And also using the word "surely". . .
"You surely don't want SGT Jones to find out that you failed your science test."

As an example in class, I had my students come up with possible colors from the flag of a made-up country (we were studying permutations, if yer curious). To make it more interesting, I asked them to name the country. My first class, I had several people shouting out names. When my lathargic last class failed to produce a single name, I said, in a bold, official tone, "We shall rule over this land, and we shall call it . . . This Land." A few of them chuckled at the silly name, but I'm sure none of them new the reference. And yes, I followed it with (under my breath) "I think we shall call it 'your grave!'"
I mock you with my monkey pants.

I was sitting at my computer, humming yesterday, and threw out the first chords to Ballad of Serenity.
My four year old daughter picked up where I left off and continued, flawlessly.
Jealous that my very young daughter might have a better musical ear than me, I asked her what she was humming?
She said: "The same thing you were Daddy...Pireply!"
Almost brought a tear to my eye...

Last week my six year old son heard me singing (well, more like mumbling) the Firefly ballad, and looked at me funny. "Know what that was?", I asked. "Firefly". he replied. "Know what the words mean?", I asked." You can't take the sky away, the WHOLE sky, 'cause that's FREEDOM", he replied.
HE'S ONLY SIX!!!

Hey, Manwithpez.
Been workin' an' such. I deal with the public (retail) and I been askin' everyone buying Star Wars related items if they're ready for Serenity. More times than not I get a "What? Is it science fiction?" Upon which it is my pleasure to spout off! On occassion I hear, "That's that Joss Whedon show!", and I know Serenity's got another ticket as good as sold!
Spreadin' the word to them that needs it Chrisisall

Reading threads like these are better than paying for therapy. I just feel all vindicated.
Work ocassionally has me driving through a small town named, - Canton.
Or into a county named, - Cobb
Seems at least once a week I'm hearing someone utter the phrase..." not so much ".
Oh, and just saw HGTTG ( I've yet to read the book ) - Heart of Gold. Hee hee. That was a fun surprise.
" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Just had another one, when I saw the headline: "Does the Future Belong to China?"
Although I'm sure Joss wasn't the only one who saw this coming.
