Couple of phone calls this afternoon. One was the dentist confirming my appointment for Tuesday. Just a cleaning.
Next my boss. Working tomorrow as they are going to be away for the rest of August.

I don't even go outside anymore on days over 90 degrees unless I absolutely have to. Glad it's finally cooling down for you.

Nice. Me too, on the no outdoor work, although that lawn is going to have to be mowed soon and the humidity isn't going anywhere with another 4 days of thunderstorms in the 10 day forecast.
Central Air must be really nice during those hot spells. That little 5000BTU unit I have does well most of the time, but a few days in the 90's and it's not very good anymore.
Going through some of my old tech now and making a gameplan for that. Google AI makes this process much easier than I ever imagined it was going to be. In about 5 hours I've re-learned everything I forgot years ago, and I've also discovered all of the various ugprades to the software tech that is so much more user-friendly than it was 15 years ago. The fact that modern FTP programs don't have to shut down the connection and do a separate handshake before every file gets transferred speeds that process up alone by a factor of about 8x, and I found out that the ancient behemoth of a computer I had to do some of this possibly hazardous to the machinery physical hacks is a relic of the past and everything has been made easy and software-based, so that thing can immediately go right in the trash, removing yet another huge box I had up in the attic.

Back and tired and hot. Cooled down with a wet cloth in warm water before doing dishes. Eating cold tonight just a can of fish on a tortilla.
Boss said she was in a hurry as she was giving me the bum's rush out of the house. I had only stopped to look at my watch. Needed the time to see what I could get done.
Stopped for a slurpee and a young man asked if I needed help with the machine. Had a wrong grip on the lid. Got that right and thanked and said I was okay. Lady in front of me was getting a larger slurpee than my small and she paid for mine. I offered to pay her back but she said no.
At least was a good way to end the day out.

What a rare and nice thing for somebody to do.
I remember back during the thick of Covid when I was walking around with hair halfway down my back and a beard down to my nipples and some old guy behind me saw me holding about $15 worth of stuff in my hand and told me he wanted to pay for it. I tried to turn him down a few times, but he wasn't having it.
I haven't thought about that in years. I get a smile just thinking about it now.

There is no overstating the coolness of new tech sometimes, especially when it comes to new software and how transformative it can be to old hardware.
I've been working several hours here and there the last few days with the old AI and we've set up something that likely would have taken me weeks or even months to have researched and figured out on my own by trolling old forum posts and learning a lot more about wired and wireless networking than I already do.
It's funny how often the AI wants to quit and go to an "easier" method that doesn't fix the underlying problems and just causes a lot of extra work many times over because you didn't set everything up right the first time. I had to ignore it telling me at least a dozen times to give up on something and do it the "easy" way. But eventually we did it. And what we did was far more than I ever assumed was even possible in the first place, and stuff I gleaned would be possible just by our conversation as it went along.
If it wasn't all so big, I'd almost second-guess my desire to leave all of this stuff behind, but besides the large size physically, there really are some severe limits on the hardware side that just aren't a problem anymore. These things will be great gifts, but they're basically relics of my past at this point. No reason to hold on to them any longer once I get them all blinged out.

Yeah, I told this lady a couple of times there wasn't any need and like you she wasn't having any of it. So, I just had to let her.
I couldn't help thing afterwards that I must have looked pretty tired and stuff.
I had someone I know on Face Book tell me a story like that yesterday. Said someone a few years ago paid for her coffee. Similar reaction to us but the person went a head.

Also about yesterday my boss seems was surprised that I could hold a philosophical conversation with her husband about time. He had taken a quick course up at UBC. Guest speaker was teaching it. I agreed with a lot of what she said.
