Here's hoping that its Weapons and not Barbarian and the guy from The Whitest Kids You Know doesn't screw it up.
He already said he's doing his own thing which is making fans of the game worried because that's what they did with the first series and it sucked, and that meant nearly every character getting a nonsensical race swap in the Netflix TV show, which is arguably one of the worst video game adaptations ever filmed.
Hey Jaynez. Have you ever heard of a Japan only NES game called "Sweet Home"?
Two different people translated it maybe 10 years ago now, and if you don't mind playing an old school RPG type of game for a few hours it's worth a look.
It's considered to be the game that started Biohazard, and in the one of the two translations that is not nearly as accurate, they actually work the name "Resident Evil" into some of the late-game text you're having with an NPC. (The newer and more faithful translation is necessary to beat the game without using a guide online because it actually tells you what you need to do on a few puzzle parts that would be impossible to figure out on your own with the older translation. The newer translation makes no mention of Resident Evil since it obviously wasn't a thing yet).
If you've every played a Dragon Warrior game, that's basically what you're getting here, but you have something like 6 protagonists, all with an innate ability that aids in battle and helps solve puzzles, that you can split up into groups to investigate different parts of the haunted mansion.
Unlike standard RPGs of the time though, there is no "town" to rest at. No safe space to restock on everything. You're stuck in the mansion with only the tools each person came with and whatever you pick up along the way. Don't take too much damage and use up all of your curatives early on, or you might be stuck with a save game that is impossible to beat by the end.
Many consider it to be the first real survival horror game.
The door transitions rendered in 8-bit are probably the most obvious comparison to the first Resident Evil on the Playstation. I'm glad the video I just posted started the video off with one of those.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm dyslexic... I read that first sentence and thought "Holy shit. He died with all 4 of his brothers on a plane??? No... I think they meant that he founded Ubisoft with 4 of his brothers, and he died alone with his instructor on the plane.

Claude Guillemot’s death comes as Ubisoft gears up for the release of its reboot Black Flag Resynced on July 9, which it hopes will reset the company’s fortunes after a number of difficult years financially in which the popularity of its games has waned.
I don't know anything about Black Flag Resynced, but let's be completely honest here about why the popularity of Ubisoft games has waned, shall we? And Deadline is part of the blame.
Hey Google AI, show me a list of recent woke Ubisoft flops...
Quote:
Ubisoft has faced significant financial struggles and major stock declines as many of its marquee titles have failed to meet sales expectations. Critics and segments of the gaming community have attributed this downturn to an over-reliance on political messaging and inclusive design choices (often labeled as "woke"). The most prominent examples include:
Star Wars Outlaws (August 2024): Despite a heavy marketing push, this title underperformed. It faced criticism from online groups over character design choices and the handling of the franchise, forcing Ubisoft to restructure and initiate delays.
Assassin's Creed Shadows (Delayed to 2025): Long before its release, this title sparked massive controversy and became the target of backlash regarding its inclusion of an African samurai and a shift toward progressive storytelling in a feudal Japanese setting.
Skull and Bones (February 2024): Labeled by Ubisoft as a "quadruple A" title, this game was panned by players as a failure. Critics cited stale gameplay and the imposition of modern diverse character designs in a pirate setting as misaligned with player expectations.
XDefiant (2024): Ubisoft’s attempt to break into the competitive hero shooter market suffered declining player counts post-launch. It drew online criticism for forcing inclusivity and character representation over focusing on solid gameplay mechanics.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (December 2023): Though based on a massive movie property, the game faced disappointing sales. It was criticized by the gaming community for featuring heavy-handed political parallels and accents used for the alien Na'vi, distracting from traditional exploration.
Thank you Google. As long as I'm not asking you math questions, you seem to be pretty helpful.
Yeah...
THAT is what is killing Ubisoft even quicker than personal planes flown by ridiculously rich idiots and their sub-standard flight instructors ever will.
Metacritic Ratings (Critic Score : Audience Score):
Star Wars Outlaws (75/100 : 5.6/10)
Assassin's Creed Shadows (81/100 : 6.1/10)
Skull and Bones (59/100 : 3.3/10)
XDefiant (67/100 : 4.7/10)
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (72/100 : 7.1/10)
Aside from the Avatar game, which surprisingly has the closest Critic/Audience score I've seen in about 20 years with a solidly mid-score of 72/100 and 7.1/10, the difference between woke critic scores and the audience is staggering with just about a 20/100 points.
Even though the trash critics are still getting what they want in games, between the drastic cultural shift and the rise of AI, they're all FAR too cowardly to give any of these woke trash failures a 100/100 like they all did for The Last of Us: Part 2.
