Good luck. You'll need it!

Damn...

He's more or less a guy who came around after I largely tuned out of (new) video games, and he headed projects in genres I really didn't have much interest in anyway, but I've been familiar with that name for quite a long time. I think I was reading about him in interviews he did for old EGM mags and others that my brother would give me when he was done reading them back in the early 2010s. He's like an OG legend, I believe. One of the last greats in the industry before all the DEI hires got shoehorned in and ruined video games.

I could be wrong about it, and I'm not going to bother researching it now, but I don't believe I ever heard people turning on him and shitting all over his name like you hear almost every upper-management role in the AAA space today.

He made good shit. He made good shit happen. He treated his teams well and gave them the freedom to be creative without smothering them under insane time frames.

If memory serves, he liked working for the Underdogs. The companies who weren't so bloated that they didn't need to bet everything on every game that came out. I think he actually left a job doing a series he helped create at one point, snagged some of his old team when he left the building and they created their own company that went on to do really well for a while. (probably bought up by EA or something by now, or maybe they're just another EA themselves at this point).

Shame.

I don't want to watch the video.

I'm assuming that it's believed he did this on purpose then?

Watch the video

if not anyways...his Car comes flying out of a California mountainous tunnel at top speed literally like a race car.
Its somewhat nice sunshine but its high up in the mountain and looks somewhat icey frosty, lots of sandy gravel to skid on.
There are a bunch of fans, kids, entourage already there with phones taking vids of the car zooming out of the tunnel.
The sports car is already locking up out of control, you can hear the wheels skid even before it exists the tunnel.
You see a red sports car blur of a really nice expensive sports car then go straight into the jagged side of a mountain, maybe it hits a steel barrier or concrete block, a loud crashing sound and now its a spinning lump of black metal.
even after it crashes it seems to travel forward about 50 yards maybe 45 meters ...maybe a lot less its hard to tell from the perspective...car moving forward while looking like a spinning top of damaged jagged black sharp metal and bits of twisted carbon fiber and torn up smashed glass and seating
a cloud of dust is kicked up as the car smashes almost like a bomb went off
All this happens in about 3 seconds maybe less
People reaction 'oh man' 'puta merde' or 'F*ck' then run up to the car, the car its hard to tell what its original shape looked like, where is the front where is the back? it starts to explode in flames, the crowd run around acting stupid while gasoline and fire spreads
there are lots of those Fast and Furious type BoyRacer 'Donuts-Around-Wheeling' marks on the road so it seems like it was a common spot for street racing.

Indie games are doing just fine.

I think it's probably time that AAA juggernauts all started falling and dying.

They do nothing but put out the same shit every year, with their only "innovations" in the last 2 decades being nothing really more than woke bullshit or teaming up with Slot Machine companies and psychologists to figure out how to psychologically take advantage of those with the least amount of impulse control and get them to spend thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars on a game that was "free".

You can't have innovation or create good games when you are an international behemoth that is traded publicly on the DOW Jones. It is an impossibility. Not only because of greedy people at the top who only care about themselves, but because when you're publicly traded, you have a legal responsibility to your shareholders.

If the "Experts" tell you that your best chance of making money is by putting out the same shit that made you money last year while taking advantage of your clients so long as you are operating within the corridors of established US law, then you are actually putting your head on the chopping block, legally speaking, if you go against that advice. You can be sued into oblivion if you stand up and say we're done taking advantage of our customer base if that means you're screwing over your stockholders who expect "X" amount of growth out of you, quarter after quarter... year after year.

If you look under the hood of all of these EA's and Activisions out there, ultra-woke DEI hire companies like Sweet Baby, Inc. isn't the only brainrot you'll find under there. They're all working in-tandem with or have financial stakes tied with, or in some cases are even OWNED by slot machine companies that milk all the low-impulse control seniors out of their social security benefits or make you stand back and watch helplessly as one of your best friends gamble's his entire family wealth away day-trading meme stocks on Robin Hood and gambling away the money that could have been funding a 529 IRA on the sports book apps, all without the need to even put on a pair of sweatpants. They get your kids hooked on gambling "fake" money that can't be traded for real currency but can buy them plenty of the digital bragging right bullshit that they want at that age. Then one day all those kids turn into adults who never stood a fucking chance.

Fuck all of you. Maybe even especially YOU, Nintendo. At least, Nintendo of America anyhow...

It's time for you all to face a reckoning you should have all faced a long time ago.

The Super Bowl will showcase the lords of legalized betting, even as they’ve already colonized every other reach of human experience.
Matt Alston

The outcome of the 60th Super Bowl won’t be known for another few days, but here’s one surefire prediction: The game will be a bonanza for the legalized sports-betting industry. The American Gaming Association, the trade group for betting interests, forecasts that $1.76 billion in legal bets will be placed on the big game—a projected 27 percent increase over last year’s take.

Legalized gambling of course involves all sorts of hidden costs, from addiction to bankruptcy to allied social ills like alcohol abuse and intimate partner violence. But under the new regime of betting administered via the digital protocols of surveillance capitalism, the gaming industry is also poised to engulf the scarcest commodity of online life: attention. By relentlessly “gamifying” the vast range of human experience, from the incremental progress of Congress to what Mr. Beast will say next to which people are likely to lose health care coverage, legalized gambling is poised to make even the most personal and idiosyncratic features of our lives fodder for transactional prognosticating and second-guessing.

And this, in turn, threatens to transform much of our lived experience into monetized commodities, setting us on a joyless, eternally frustrated quest to realize maximum returns on things we shouldn’t be treating as profit centers. In one online ad for the omni-betting, er, “predictions” app Kalshi, a young woman thrills to the prospect of making money on mundane forecasting propositions, because, as she explains, her friends and she are constantly making predictions—without noting that anyone living life on those terms has to be a) perpetually exhausted; and b) unbelievably boring. Yet the alleged frisson of seeing a banal forecast come to life is what company cofounder Luana Lopes Lara says with a straight face is the dream of “making money out of what you know and your passions.” The company’s best-known slogan is likewise a desperate bid to upgrade glorified psephology into the height of intellectual ambition: “everybody is an expert on something.”

To get a more realistic read on how rampant and venal gamification is affecting our basic capacity to pay attention, it’s useful to revisit another recent media event that’s pretty much the opposite of the Super Bowl, in terms of overall cultural reach: the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, which took place in late January. This year’s Globes ceremony proceeded in typical fashion, offering a downmarket preview of the March Academy Awards broadcast. There were some fine speeches, some heartfelt and pointed denunciations of ICE and the MAGA war on immigrants and dissidents, as well as a few comic grenades lobbed at CBS and Trump by emcee Nikki Glaser. There was some fun at the expense of the absent former host Ricky Gervais.

But in the midst of all this fairly standard Hollywood banter and gestures of protest, there was something new, and painfully omnipresent: the blockchain-based prediction app Polymarket, whose sponsorship blanketed the ceremony’s broadcast like a stock-car driver’s jacket or a cable-news ticker. Each time an award winner was announced, overlaid graphics swooped in just beforehand to register Polymarket’s predictions onscreen.

Polymarket, like Kalshi, is basically a gambling app. The differences between prediction-based assets stored on the blockchain and a sportsbook are nuanced, and important for regulatory purposes, but for the average Golden Globes viewer, the difference was moot. The chyrons infesting every moment of the Globes broadcast—“Best Podcast Odds Presented by Polymarket” is a real string of words that were displayed—looked and felt just like gambling odds. An award would b
