Boy... still at it. We're going on 12 hours now. I knew there was a reason I put all this off for so long.
The work has wound down, but it's just time consuming crap right now. I'm going through junk mail and trying to clear out some stuff from that curio cabinet and the foyer table that I restored.
I think I'm going to have to give it up soon and just do a little clean up in the kitchen and call it a night. Still kind of aching from the yard work I did the other day and 12 hours at this hasn't helped either. Jack's gotta get back into shape. 
I'm not heavy or nothing, but I could lose about 5lbs and I'm just achey because all I do most days is sit on my couch and work on that project. And I did just have a 8cm growth in my left lung 6 weeks ago too... Gonna put that project behind me soon and get back on the horse. Gonna have to get a job of some sort by the end of the year and I've got some big things around here I want to get done before I start looking.

Ten to Five and just finally wrapping things up. That was a LONG day...
The only thing I didn't get done was going through the more important paperwork, sorting through the drawer and doors on the bottom of the curio cabinet, and some more stuff to go through on that foyer table.
Kitchen and bathroom are clean too except for the toilet. I'm going to clean that right before my shower tomorrow.
Looks great. Can't wait until the old man comes tomorrow.

Man, you got a lot of work done. Don't think I could go at anything in here for 8 hours straight with pulling a muscle or just plain tiring myself out. But it's good that you did all of that. Nice time you go to dust or whatever it will be easier.

All done for me today. Got the booby prize at mah jong. Got my $2 back. Oh well. Found a foot stool that would work for my place, just have to figure out how I would get it back if I bought it. It is on wheels but with the weird weather meaning going from sunny to rain, I could end up tracking mud in and I don't want to do that. Also being square it would be awkward to carry back. Will think on it.
Dry and sunny but a cold wind is blowing for sure.

Yeah... Got a ton done yesterday for sure...
My dad left at around 6:30 and instead of going grocery shopping I decided to mow the front lawn. Just barely made it before sundown. Now if I want to mow the back a 2nd time since it's already long again, I can just do that tomorrow when it's in the 80's. By the time I was finished I was sweating and that's a cold wind. Going back down in the high 40's low 50's tonight before the 83 high tomorrow... Spring in Chicago.
Could you send me a picture of a similar footstool, Brenda? Maybe I can think of something you could try to get it back home.

Ahhh... I thought you meant a stool as something to stand up on to reach a higher height. You mean an ottoman then? I'm not sure if I'm seeing the same images as you are so without the full name of the product I couldn't say for sure.
14" x 74"? That's over 6 feet long. I'm a little bit confused. That seems way too big for you to even consider lugging home on your own. Even if it was ultra light and you had a big wagon wheel it back to your place, I would imagine that would still be tough to impossible with it right up in your face or even on your back as you were pulling the wagon, so I think I'm not getting what you're talking about.
Can you type in the exact name of it?
I saw a Navy blue one on that page that is 14.75" squared...

Goddamnit... Had a visit from my Smoke Demon tonight...
I can't even remember the last time I had a night terror. I was living here. I know I've had a few of them since I moved here, but I think my last one was before the covid lockdowns.
I wish I remember what the dream I was having was about. It wasn't a nightmare at first, and my dad was in it. I think at some point we got separated and I was looking for him. All I can remember now is that I found him creepy house that was a drastic shift in tone from everything else before it. He said he was alright, but something happened... I think I remember him saying it made him cry? But that was it... I was pulled away backwards from him while he was talking on a mattress that was either on some sort of roller coaster to hell or just back into the void and out of that reality. As I slid back down into nothingness, I heard heavy breathing all around me...
Turns out that was me breathing heavy IRL...
BAM!!!!
Eyes open. We're in reality again. But I can't move. Trapped again in the terrifying realm of half life and half dreams...
And my wiggle-the-toes solution I'd come to figure out was the easiest way out was not working so well this time. And against my better judgement, I look in the corner. Yup. There he is. My AIO computer monitor on my coffee table thankfully sheilding my eyes from seeing his full form, but there's his head in the corner with those glowing white eyes staring right back into mine. Thankfully, he's not moving. He never does. He just stands there staring at me... smoke swirling all around his head but somehow never dimming the glow of those eyes as if they're in front of smoke itself...
Heavy breathing. Loud...
I scream out "FUCK YOU!"... But I know that I don't really. It's only in my head. I can't speak. I can't ever speak...
Wiggling my toes still, but now trying to perform the Herculean task of sitting upright and breaking the spell since the tried and true method of toe wiggling is not waking my feet up fast enough to kick my way out.
Look anywhere but that corner. Focus on escape. Anywhere but that corner...

I'm staring right into his dead eyes again. I know none of this is real, but the panic is very real. Adrenaline is really pumping now. I can feel it. The breathing is even heavier now.
I'm giving him the finger. I can feel that I am, but without moving my head because that's still impossible, I move my eyes to look down at where it feels my hand should be, but in reality my entire arm is pinned lifelessly at my side.
I never looked back at the corner a third time and eventually I managed to kick my way out of the nightmare and wake up.
And it's only 2:33AM. Shit. I've only gotten a few hours sleep.
And now I'm here. Had me a cigarette and wasting time because the only thing to do now is wake up completely before I go back to the dream realm.
To do otherwise would be foolish. If there is any hint of the sleep chemicals flowing through my blood before I sleep again I'll be plunged right back into the place between worlds where the demons roam and I have no ability to do anything but breath heavy and feel a terror the likes of which I've never faced in real life. Being beat half to death and stabbed by 4 guys doesn't have shit on whatever these episodes really are.
Christ... These Night Terror / Sleep Paralaysis episodes are something else.
If I had just one good thing to still say about the internet in 2026 is that somewhere along the line it let me know that I wasn't crazy and that there were other people who have had the same experience.
Back when I had my first visit from Mr. Smoke, I was in my early 20's living at my Grandma's house. Anybody I mentioned it to didn't know what the hell I was talking about, so I just stopped mentioning it. Even when it happened again, I never told a soul. At least not until I had youtube videos

The other thing I learned from the internet is that these dreams could be a whole lot worse than mine, and that my smoke demon, as terrifying as he is, isn't such a bad guy. He doesn't interact. He just stares at me, perhaps in silent judgement...
Some are haunted by dream demons that move all around and do some pretty horrific things to people before they can snap out of it.
And if Fuseli's "The Nightmare" painting is any indication there have been others who have had these visits for at least 250 years. Maybe some among us have always had them.
