Figured out how to get the date up on the monitor. When it came on just the time was on. My eyes automatically go down to the right hand corner for the time and the date. Noticed no date. Had a look at a couple of things in settings and got it straightened out. Taskbar was on lock and something else needed adjusting. Still tweaking things to get to where I would like them.

Asking others for hints?
Looking up online how to do them?
I can't remember the guy's name now, but one of the college teachers I had the most respect for was the guy teaching an intermediate DOS class in my freshman year of high school. Rather than make us memorize things for the tests, he let us bring our small paperback books into the tests with us.
He said something along the lines of "In the real world when there are real world tests, you're going to have access to information to get things done the right way.
My tests are going to be problems that you need to solve. If you've been paying attention in class, you're going to have no problem solving them and whatever you don't remember you will know enough to know how to look it up and then how to use it."
And that's computers in a nutshell...
And the best part is because of the internet you have a far easier time learning new things than I did when I first got into computers. Everything you could ever possibly want to know is out there, although you obviously need to know quite a bit to grasp the top tier stuff.
But those little things you're doing now like fixing the clock/date and the taskbar and just getting things working the way you want them to is how you dip your toes in.
I didn't really start learning computers until I screwed up the PC my mom paid way too much for. I used a program called DoubleSpace that gave you nearly double the hard drive space for programs and games, but what I didn't realize before using it was that it did this by compressing all the non-system-critical files on the computer and there was no way to reverse it once it was done. The cost for all that extra space was that my already slow computer was now unusable.
That's when I learned how to format a hard drive and re-install Windows. It was either that or get nailed to a cross when my mom found out what I did.
I was pretty fearless about computers after I was able to do that. So far I've found that you can't break anything so much that it can't be fixed as long as the hardware is still good.
Keep plugging away...
Maybe now that you've got things back up and running, the next thing you can do is make another copy of your book and back up your photographs too. You could even learn how to make folders and sub-folders so you can organize the photos if you want too.
It's like learning a foreign language, but the more you learn the more you realize what you can make that computer do for you.

Still slaving away at my project here. Weather is starting to finally warm up for good this time, so I'm really running out of time to be doing this 24/7 like I have been since I have important things to do.
I'm getting really close to where I want it to be now. Just so many tiny things that need being done and they take up so much time. And a lot of them are the things I dread doing and were put off to the end, so that's fun. At least I wasn't sloppy all over the place though. I knew better than to do that, because had I left 100% of the 10% of this project I hate doing all for the end, I'd screw myself because I'd never finish it. I did a pretty good job balancing that work as I went along, but the part I'm working on now never saw a ton of work since even the stuff I normally enjoy doing is not very enjoyable here. Everything just seems to take 5 times as long while doing this. There's just a ton of variables and other things that make you really have to plan things out on the fly while you're working instead of going on autopilot for a few hours and listening to a podcast or music in the background. Too many things here are tied to other things and great care has to be taken to line everything up. A lot of the project just contains many things that are self-contained and self-referential and can be manipulated by external processes. But this one large part has so many inter-connected parts.
I had some last minute additions in there which I said I wasn't going to do, but they were too good to be passing up. If I'm not officially done with adding anything new stuff, I'm just about there. Not that I've run out of things to add since that would probably be impossible in one lifetime, but I do believe that I've covered everything that I personally find worthwhile and interesting.
Just cleaning up the work and the documentation now and doing some last minute testing on things.
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to try to figure out a work/life balance with this thing as I'm wrapping it up though since hibernation time is just about over. I think I would have made the spring deadline if I didn't get sick.

For some of the tweaking it is poking around and looking things up on the internet.
For the date I asked a question at where I bought the monitor then I had to do some poking but once I found it it was easy. I just had to unlock the taskbar, you know move the blue "toggle" as they call it when you look it up. Then it was the same for increasing the size of the taskbar icons and the date came up. Felt pretty good getting that done with little fuss.
Yeah, I know things will get easier hopefully as time goes on. But I had that other monitor for 5years, so I was used to it.
I haven't gotten to my pictures yet. One of these Sundays I will.
I am half back on the trail of looking for a publisher. So that is a good start.

All done for today. Lousy morning at mah jong. Could not and I mean could not break 1,000 points for love nor money. Ugh! Then to top that off I forgot something in the grocery store and luckily the cashier let me hurry to the aisle to get it.
Could wear my Spring jacket today. Wind has died down some and when it does hit you it isn't as cold.

Been a busy day,and to top it off the wash machine finally totally broke and flooded the laundry area.
Considering the # of times it's been repaired and probably the lack of replacement parts, maybe it's time to blow taps on it.

Sounds like it is officially dead. That's always bad. I replaced a hose once on my mum's machine and hoped it would last. It didn't. So it was laundry mat time.

Out soon another lovely day up here in the Northlands. Odds and sods to do today. Need a better hair trap for the bathtub drain. Had no luck yesterday. Maybe today.
Was going through the pockets of my heavy coat and found $10. And I can't even remember where it came from. Must have been change from groceries and I just stuck it into a 3rd pocket on my heavy coat.
