The law of diminishing returns is in full effect for his overblown, tedious franchise, both financially and artistically. Fire and Ass is down somewhere around 35% in domestic box-office receipts compared to the opening of the prior film in the trilogy, The Way of Water Is the Equivalent of 50 MGs of Melatonin. I hope Christmas has been ruined for James Cameron, and, oh god, I hope his latest cinematic digital dump is the last of the storyline.
Actually, calling the Cameron-penned plot of Fire and Blue Assholes a “storyline” is a stretch. It’s basically the same movie as the last one, with a bunch of slim, blue Rastafari-knock-off distant relatives of Jar Jar Binks and John Travolta’s character in Battlefield Earth running around with their asses hanging out, occasionally hissing like cats, and saying “bro” a lot. The mundane dialogue is an attempt to propel the same endless story of humans trying to screw with the environmentally sound Na’vi, with countless, repetitive battle scenes thrown into the mess.

Wicked: For Good is still doing ok in Australia and nu-Avatar and Zootopia 2 fighting for 1st and second place
in Europe its difficult t o get reports during Christmas its mostly Avtar vs Zootopa but some unsual ones are Dead of Winter (2025 film) doing very good in Finland, I believe Dead of Winter is a US indie film with some overseas funding, website Rotten Tomatoes, 77% of 73 critics' reviews are positive.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 the horror is doing good in Croatia
the Avatar story is perhaps kinda video game simple like a Pocahontas or Dances with Wolves with bad guys from Earth with military machines...its somewhat empty of character but its spectacle sells

Did you catch that last weekend an A24 movie that only opened up in 6 theaters hit the Top 10 list for the weekend with just under $1 Million? Per theater it out-grossed Avatar 3 by about 6 times.
They opened it wide to 2668 theaters on weekend 2 and it got 2nd place with $18 Million.
Sounds like great news for Marty Supreme, until you see that the production budget for that movie was somehow $70 Million.

I think we did ok
user SECOND maybe there were predictions but having gone through a quick scan a quick speed read on some of the thread I see mostly article links posted
but as stated if you predict 'Flops' most of the time you are correct!

We were certainly way closer to the truth in almost every movie we bothered commenting on than Bruce or anybody over at Variety and Deadline were all year long.
I really don't buy that Chinese "win" though.
I'm sure now that the year is over it will probably get at least some coverage, but I don't get the feeling that anybody else has been taking it that seriously either. Pretty sure I haven't ever seen a single article pointing this out to anyone at least.

Comparisons for A3 vs. A2's 2nd weekend are just about worthless.
Anyone writing about it doesn't seem to shy away from pointing that out, but they'll still celebrate the numbers by comparison, nonetheless.
Christmas fell on Sunday last year.
This will be the last big week for it, and then the kids go back to school.
Let's see what it does next weekend.
I have some serious doubts right now that it can even make half a Billion in the US before it's out of theaters. Unless it has amazing legs, it probably falls quite a bit short of that, actually.

Dear Mick LaSalle: A recent Wall Street Journal article forecasted the curtain call for movie theaters within 10 years and cited declining attendance trends. Essentially, the current building footprints no longer generate the revenue per square foot needed for a reasonable return on investment. What are two things you would recommend to prevent the demise of the neighborhood multiplex?

Dear Ken Kramer: I don't have two things. I got nothing.
It used to be that the real experience of a movie was in the theater. If you saw a movie on TV, it was on a small screen, with commercials, and sometimes the movies were even cut short to fit the time slot the station needed to fill. Even after the arrival of VHS, the home video experience was still just a blurry, small-scale replica of the real thing. But that's no longer the case.
Today, the home video experience rivals the theater experience. Screens are big - if you have a video projector it can be 9- or 10-feet wide - and the clarity and sound are remarkable.
So why leave your living room to go to a movie theater? Why park your car and pay $18 for a ticket to watch 40 minutes of commercials and trailers before the movie even starts - just to be in an empty theater or, even worse, a packed house with people behind you coughing into your popcorn?
And that's a good night. A bad night is when you've got people answering their cellphones all around you and you're afraid to complain because, who knows, they might be crazy.
So I really see no reason why anyone would want to go to a multiplex, unless you're a teenage couple in search of a dark place.
That said, I do see why people would want to go to a specialty or repertory house, such as the Roxie, the Smith Rafael, the Stanford, the Balboa, the 4-Star, the Vogue and the Pacific Film Archive, because the programs there are well curated, and they show lots of movies you can't stream at home.
