I do understand, and I think YOU understand that there's jealousy on this side of the Pond, too. 
Yes, I caught the last hour or so of The Queen. We meant to rent it (being BIG Mirran fans), but forgot, and now I'm glad we didn't. I didn't realize it was all wrapped around Diana, and I resented what I did see.
Yes, to the rest of the world she was a figure of so much beauty, compassion for the poor, and treated so badly by the royals that there's little sympathy for Charles or Camilla and we suffered from the same kind of hero worship as was evident by the British reaction to her death. I, for one, will always remember exactly where I was when JFK and Bobby were shot, when 9/11 happened, and when Diana died. So you see how big it figures for some of us!
Obviously I can't relate to how the British felt about her, so my opinion is purely subjective and I'm sure our MSM reports were equally biased. It just seemed so cold-blooded and the royals seemed to hate her SO much, it got to me.
As to her knowing what she was getting into, there I have to disagree. Nobody knows for sure what they're getting into in that situation. It's pretty obvious Diana was immature and naive in many ways, and I'm sure even over there, there is a lot of "marrying a Prince" fairytaleishness involved. Add to that her own lack of self-esteem, bulemia and all, and no, I don't think she was aware of the realities of the situation.
Nor I think was the royal family aware of what THEY were getting into with her. Younger people probably think differently about royalty than those who grew up under what might be called "real" monarchy of times gone past. It's no surprise the whole thing turned out so awful for both sides, and both sides have my sympathy.
I actualy DO usually look for stories involving Britain, and Australia (and now will for Peru...and don't we have someone from New Zealand?). Our politics have turned so hot and heavy for a while now, and I've been fighting my own depression, so haven't been "up to snuff" as you guys would say!
I miss seeing you, so will try to go back to making the effort to find non-US stories, as best I can (right now I'm only coming here every other day, even THAT is slipping away from me, but the cycle will break sooner or later, it always does...).

We've tried to find a way to get rid of the Monarchy here in Australia, but finding and agreeing on an alternative system of government is no easy thing. In the end people see the stability of our current system and kind of go, well that feels hard, I'm off to the beach.
Anyway, republican sentiments kind of seem rude when the Queen is so old, hard to turf an 88 year old monarch. When Charlie and Cam are reigning over us, will be a different story no doubt.

Well thanks for the British History lesson dickhead. If you carry on with your studies you will know that in 1660, The Parliamentarians had to agree to the reinstatement of The Monarchy, basiclly because those who had overthrown them ended up WORSE than what we had. So what exactly is your point, or is there, as usual, none?
