Attack on the Royals: the unanswered questions

Why was the route that took the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall through a violent mob chosen?

Why did the limousine almost grind to a halt once it reached the crowd, rather than driving through it and who was making the key decisions on the ground?

Why were the limousine's windows, reinforced to protect the passengers, actually open?

That's why I used the verb "wants". It is generally used when an event has not occured but when the subject would prefer it to the present situation.

Problem is, a combination of a concerted response based on what's called "The Miami Model", and the idiotic notion that without the THREAT OF FORCE, anyone will take your "Protest" seriously, the old tactics have fallen by the wayside - just as massed infantry and cavalry charges (despite american generals NEVER really learning this) fell by the wayside with the advent of the machinegun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_model

Even the Anarchists were aware their tactics kinda sucked, they just didn't take it far enough.

See, firstoff, you don't have to do some world-shattering act of heroism, simply looking the other way, or "accidently" forwarding that incriminating e-mail, or even anonymously chucking the contents of a flashdrive to indymedia at a cybercafe (pay cash, mind) can be excellent ways of dumping sand in the gears - look at how one single Airline Pilots personal bitchfest became a hellstorm of retribution against the TSA almost overnight ?

And other positive effects too, as I noted in the Force-be-with-you thread, technology allows us to support each other in ways never before possible, and we should take ADVANTAGE of it, especially since the powers-that-be are quite regularly a decade and more behind the times, so we can always keep one jump ahead of them if we try.

All a conventional protest does these days is paint a big fucking bullseye on you, allowing you to be stomped with impunity, mocked by the press and ignored by the public - sound and fury, accomplishing nothing.

That bastard Julian knows one thing for damn sure, you wanna provoke a REAL fight, go after the MONEY - you think it was just tomfoolery and retaliation that caused his people to fire a shot across the bow at Credit Card Companies, and Paypal ?

Nope, you wanna stick a pin in anyone, go right for the WALLET, you'll have their attention just about immediately.

And that's all I am currently willing to say to it.

I caught the last of "The Queen" on TV last night and found it interesting. That the opinion of the royalty is still so important and can become such a bone of contention surprised me, too...not to mention the small mindedness of the attitude. I'm sad for the Brits that they still inveigh so much importance to their royal family and, while I understand the importance of history and historical artifacts, after seeing the crown jewels, I was pretty much disgusted, and reminded how much money goes into retaining that (in my opinion) useless body.

I guess mostly glad we don't have a royal family to support--not to say the enormous waste of money for our governing body isn't equivalent in its way, but they've GOT a governing body, so it seems especially absurd.

Niki. We don't pay any attention to the views of the royal family. But, as for us paying for them, NO. Everything the royal family has, has been passed down to them from generation to generation, just as in any wealthy family. The TOP royals are given an annual government stipend in order to carry out the duties that the government ASKS them to do for the national interest. The Crown Jewels are part of our national heritage just as every other nation has its own national treasures. Are you telling me that the President needs to live in abig white house, or memorials are a good way to spend the public purse. As for our histories and traditons, they are important to us, simply because we HAVE history and traditions. 1500 years of being governed by a ruling family is what MADE this country,(and to a certain extent, yours). We cant just sweep it away. The Royal family will always be part of us.They cant just suddenly not exist. Or are you expecting some kind of French style lynching and the redistribution of what is rightfully THEIRS. May be a little old fashioned of me, but it is something shared by the vast majority of Brits, and we are happy with it. Just watch what reaction they will get on the Wedding Day next year, and then tell us we are sad little Brits.
Not trying to argue any point here , NIki, but we like our royal family because it helps to DEFINE us, and unless you have lived your life under the Monarchy of one, yopu will never understand the nuances.

Americans will never understand the respect you pay to your Royal Family for obvious reasons.

But your comparison of the respect SOME people afford American Presidents to the respect you give your Royals is warranted. I doubt your Prime Minister gets any respect near the amount your Royal Family gets, much like the Speaker of the House and VP doesn't here in America.

Personally, I think both forms of respect are logically fallacious and an appeal to tradition and moral authority. I'll have no part in either one. If they do wrong, I want them held accountable.

Yes, lynching please. Or chop their heads off like the Puritans did to the British monarchy to create the Republic of England.

The British Empire massacred America in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, bombed New Orleans, NY City and Washington DC, burned the White House.

The "British" royal family's secret name is Sax Coberg Gotha, from Germany.

Their primary income is sale of heroin from Afghanistan, which increased 10,000% after the US/UK invasion based on the false-flag US/UK/NATO/Israeli terror attacks on USA on 9/11/2001. The "British" royals run MI5/MI6 that run the IRA terrorists and AlCIAduh terrorists that allegedly bomb UK, and MI5/MI6 bombed London on 7/7.

The multi-trillionaire "British" royals own British Petroleum, Dutch Royal Shell, the "Federal" Reserve Bank that counterfeits all "US dollar bills" and keeps all IRS income taxes, are the largest landowners in Manhattan NY City, are the largest landowners on planet Earth.

That's HISTORY.

STRIP THE GERMAN ROYAL FAMILY OF THE 57-NATION BRITISH EMPIRE OF ALL ASSETS AND GIVE THEM A LIFE SENTENCE IN GITMO...OR KILL THEM ALL!!!

PK, hi, great to see you (you're not around as much these days, and I miss you).

Point taken...I didn't know about the royals living off their inheritance and only being paid for government "activities". Thank you. That makes much more sense.

As to the rest, yes, I do resent the money squandered on White House "frills" and stuff, which I recognize need to happen anyway, it's just my own resentment.

When it comes to the crown jewels, I saw them on a tour on our way home from Afghanistan and was 12 years old, so I saw them through that "filter". I realize it's more like a museum with a Monet in it worth millions, so it's unfair.

The vehemence of your response shows me how much it means to you, and I wasn't trying to come down on Britain--if you hadn't noticed, I'm pretty strongly PRO-British. Part of my attitude might be because of just having seen The Queen, and her attitude toward Diana (which could be your feelings in reverse, because SHE meant a lot to US) bothered me a lot. Certainly my opinions are subjective, and never intended to suggest you should have a revolution or anything, okay?

Thats Ok , Niki. I have never been offended by you, and doubt I would be. Listen, in my younger days I would have been one of the great unwashed baying for the Monarchy's blood, but with age and experience, I have come to mellow on them and recognise their importance. Love them or hate them personally, it is not the PERSON who is the Monarch that is important, rather the INSTITUTION itself that holds the kudos. The Monarch is our FIGUREHEAD,the impartial embodiment of the British people, and personally, if I had been present while Charles and Camilla had been attacked, I would have gladly volunteered to shoot the prick myself. Most of the Royals live quietly under the radar and most have the national interest at heart, and to attack the Queen, who has done nothing illegal, immoral or unsavoury is just plain wrong. I wasn't a great fan of Diana myself, I'm sorry to say. For a lot of us, she was almost single handedly responsible for ruining 1000 years of our history. I know Charles was no angel, but she knew what she was getting into before she married him. As for Camilla, she has had so much shit thrown her way, but she has managed to remain utterly dignified throughout.
Are you talking of the film "The Queen" with Helen Mirren?
As for not being around much, well it's difficult to get involved with discussions that are understandably US Centric.I do lurk and jump in with stuff that I'm familiar with tho. And it's lovely to be missed. Thanks, hunny.
