To note, this is why I get pissed off when you hear people talking about cultural appropriation...
I didn't even know that this was a black dude when I first heard it on the radio a few years ago when coming back from helping my friend working on his house and he told me who did it. I was looking for lyrics and saw an article about the lead singer and songwriter Abel, who was born in the 90's and grew up in Canada, was a huge fan of 80's music. I don't get the idea that most of his music is anything like this one, but it was like his love letter to that decade of music.
80's pop was decidedly an almost exclusively white phenomena, with early MTV in there too. It really wasn't until "Yo MTV Raps" came on that black music from the 90's started moving from "the hood" to the mainstream.
But how the hell could anyone hate on somebody for putting out an 80's banger like this when it's so good. My world is just a little better with this song in it.

sometimes 'Prince' would annoy me with his 'attitude' and falsetto, the weird balanced tone on the high pitches in a singer’s voice and dress up wardrobe, his diva nature but as a musician I give him respect he was incredible
I think even Drunk even if I was having a party with Reggae people and almost 'Stoned out of my Mind' I would still dislike it.
That song hjas been played many many times on the radio for me, its dumb teenie boop and x-factor juvenile so I'm not listening to it again.
Everyone has different tastes, but for me the voclaists are dumb, are usually the last person in the band. I usually listen from the botom up Cello, groove, Bass line so I dont really take notice of vocalists unless they actually can write lyrics for example Bob Dylan or they put on an energetic performance Tina Turner for example. Or the person is at the top of the game 'Opera' for example but I'm not into Opera I just respect the training and skill involved and ....song and dance folk songs? another I might the groove or phrasing of songs, Samba Forró Rumba Portuguese vocal dance songs the Gypsy Spanish Caribbean Salsa dance vocals, the Balkan folk dance vocals or Hindi India Hindu dance songs I try to catch all sounds not just 'words' all instrumentation so at times the vocalist almost doesnt exist, the vocals usually just annoy me being out of time and out of tune or just boring and put to the grid like a machine, everything in auto tune
vocals are just one of many instruments, the human voice instrument so in the larger wall of sound they mostly dont exist

I do respect some vocals the American-born Italian-Greek soprano, Italian operatic tenor, French-American operatic soprano and actress ...it wasnt all Metropolitan Opera in New York City, they sometimes did tv or movies or radio, the Ed Sullivan show, the Welsh or Russian or Spainish or Canadian baritone, the mixed Maori and European woman who is allowed to be a NZ 'Diva' moving from pop to Classical, growing up in a poor remote corner of New Zealand, and ended up one of the world’s most famous opera singers. I respect the people who do incredible work and training for their voice and are allowed have 'attitude' because they have done so much work in life.
I'm not an elite-ish guy not an elitist I do like some simple Country Blues the Pop Folk song or one with Bluegrass roots, I like some pop or world music folk songs or blues or rock or whatever but I can't understand why some very mediocre vocalists are pushed out there, completely over-rated and worshipped by zombies masses that just consume the garbage of radio pop.

I rarely take notice of vocals, most vocalists I find annoying. I might strum a guitar, hitting some bangs some beats on a drum, play a bassline or play some chords with groove on piano, I usually listen out to harmonize with 'The Band' the beats and subdivisions catch the pulse and drive and have fun with the rhythm section....there really isn't anything interesting in that song.
I remember 'Fugees' funk and hip-hop but completely overplayed....some stuff I would hear a lot and depending what part of the world you might be in you could hear stuff like Enigma, an Aussie pop band, a K-pop band or whatever the local radios of the cities would play. You would hear Queen or old US Blues Jazz or some Beatles or some cliche Classical Music Orchestra song and I still would not get tired of it but 'Fugees' was boring and tiresome

its a bit silly but I like it and you can hear the mix style of Karl Martin Sandberg or the Swedish guy 'Max Martin', is everywhere. 96%-97% of all hits these past decades are made by a few audio engineering producers, Max Martin being one of those names.
I think it would work as a modern soundtrack to some thriller horror, is it a soundtrack?

I don't know if it was on a soundtrack. I only heard it on the radio that one time and I think it was years after it had come out. That was a few years ago. The real music video is around 5 minutes, but has an annoying part that the music just stops and they're doing some video shit in the middle. The real radio song is probably only like 3.5 minutes long. That was a 20 minute loop, and actually not a very good one because you can totally tell where they looped it. I've done much better loops of my own before.
Yeah. It's a jam. I'm not much of a dancer, but I can groove to this one.

Sister Act 2 was not a very good movie.
Lauryn Hill stole the show for sure though.
But it gets pretty cringe and embarrassing quickly when Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer come out and bounce around the stage. Yikes.

maybe its time to make a list of musicals we all tolerate
everyone is talking KPop Demon Hunters, I have not seen, might avoid it. Something strange has happened the musical, they used to be able to do them well but now they can rank among the worst movies ever made, the assraped Joker Folie à Deux
so maybe I should make a list of Musical film I tolerate, stage theater puppet disney type film music stuff and Music Movies that I 'tolerate'...some site uploaded the new 'Wicked' I couldnt watch it at all...seemed like garbage
'The Muppet Movie' was good
all the old 1930s era Fred Astaire you had all these real dancers post silent era cinema, it was just great performance. Black, White doing their incredible rhythm stuff from the era of Jazz and the Charleston dance. The Golden Age was incredible, no CGI, they often had to do it all in one take, Singin' in the Rain would be there. 50s and 60s was still there post War Golden Age Mary Poppins 1960s, you had international flavors the French Cancan, Westside Story...there were also a lot of Slavic Arab Orthodox Eastern Arabic influential films until the Soviets and Jihad islamos started taking over and banning stuff, Russian East Europeans breaking out into song and dance before Communists shut it all. 'Days and Nights' would be one, I think its Egyptian actors or French Arabic a look into a more Western looking Arab culture before it all shut down.
I might put Hong Kong Nocturne there its like a silly version of Beatles Hard Days Night, Austin Powers or The Monkees but set in Asia. ¡Ay Carmela! could be on the List the closing months of the Spanish Civil War, but I guess you could put any number of Brazil Hispanic Latin American dance movies on the list.
maybe Rocky Horror Would be on 'The List' its so weird funny creepy and 'out there' with its outlandish nutty scenes!
I guess Purple Rain might be there on that creepy disturbing European flick 'Dancer in the Dark'
The Doors 1991 was well done and Ray a 2004 biographical drama film focusing on musician Ray Charles...perhaps comedy 'Top Secret!' was better?
maybe O Brother, Where Art Thou? does that qualify as a musical. A lot of people praise the Japan anime Blue Giant.
The Phantom of the Opera, Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson I think there's a lot of post-processing and studio vocals and genius work of musicians and Andrew Lloyd Webber 'magic' and edits to get those vocals sounding the way they do.

I might throw in the British comedy troupe Monty Python before Britain went Soviet-Jihad Orweliian and took offense to everything.
1986 Labrynth with Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and all that fantastic puppetry and Goblin monster song was fun
'Cabaret' maybe that also makes the list.
Maybe spoofs like 'Top Secret!'would be included afterall movies are entertainment? This Is Spinal Tap, Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story a spoof of Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and careers of other notable musicians including Roy Orbison, Glen Campbell.
Would you include animation in the list or movies that are less musical and more 'movie' but maybe with an iconic 'musical' scene.
'The Blues Brothers' was a blast, hilarious film
I enjoyed most India Bollywood stuff but I dont watch much of it.
then there are lists of stuff I have yet to watch 'True Stories' by David Byrne is supposed to be pretty good but I never seen it, I never seen Little Shop Of Horrors I know it might be a musical Ive seen clips with Steve Martin, Bill Murray I dont know if the original was also a musical? Lagaan Once Upon a Time in India is another people talked of online but I never seen it and La La Land another I have yet to see but some people loved it.
I never got to see 'The Producers' another spoof parody people enjoyed. The Return of Captain Invincible was a Superman-ish Xmen spoof not everyon

If you liked the first one, you should watch the 2nd one at least once. I haven't seen either of them in decades now, but I did see the first one in the theaters and my grandma really liked both of them so I saw them quite a few times when I was being bounced around between 4 houses with my brothers for years after the folks got divorced. Never really cared too much about the 2nd one, but liked the singing.

Is Sister Act REALLY a musical though? I guess you'd have to define musical. They have a lot to do with singing, but if I were to guess, more than half the runtime of both movies was not singing. I guess that Google AI considers it a musical. I dunno.

Been ages since I've seen The Muppet Movie, but that's another one my grandma had on Laserdisc when her sister died and gave her the player and about 500 movies with it. I like the Kermit/Rainbow song. It's been so long since I've seen that movie that I don't even remember any other songs from it or how much of the runtime was songs.
I'd never watch Mary Poppins today, but I saw it once or twice with my mom when I was little. I didn't hate it. Never seen any of the others there.

Rocky Horror is crazy. Not something I would go out of my way to see. I think the only way I'd ever watch that again is if my brother and his friends went to one of those weekend theater showings or something, just to see how crazy the crowd acts and to stand out like a sore thumb because you wouldn't catch me dead dressing up like they do. Say what you want about Susan Serandon, but she looked amazing in that flick in her knickers.
