Afghan Whigs: The Getaway

(Flashing lights warning for Brenda).

We were born in the wrong time. We'll never see colonization of space in our lifetimes, and peak civilization on this rock was the late 90's and it's all been downhill from there.

You are correct. Jacksonville.

I could think of at least 5 or 6 other threads you've pulled up from the void that it would also fit into, and I didn't remember what thread specifically you posted it in. That's the problem when we show up one day and see that the last 4 pages of threads were all dredged up in the previous 2 days.

Now... instead of only having to look at maybe a dozen or two threads by title to see a topic that had been brought up in the last day or two that I was interested in or posted in is there for me to make another reply, I've got to go through 2 to 4 pages depending on how big of a bender you were on that week.

There is 50 threads per page man. And there's not much worse than having to scroll through them and bring up topic after topic after topic after topic in alternate tabs and wait on this slow ass website to let me get to the last page and check out the last few posts before closing that window out and trying it all over again with a new batch of threads you might have posted it in.

If this site had a search function it would be a different story. Years ago I used to be able to search for anything I wanted here using some minor code in Google's search engine query, but they stopped allowing you to do that years ago. The function is still technically there, but it used to be 99.9% accurate on anything I was trying to find, but now it's basically useless.

I get pissed off easily by annoying behavior and maybe I say shit that I shouldn't, and I should empathize more with other people. I don't know why you do it to the extent that you do. I think if you pared it down to eliminate the trivial stuff it is actually historically beneficial.

But man... what you do here is like a serious pet peeve of mine that I didn't even know existed until you created it. I like you, and still you annoy me more with this behavior than the two idiots on these boards annoy me with their chronic TDS brain trauma combined.

Interesting band 'Afghan Whigs' from Cincinnati, Ohio, I never heard of them, they say they were active from 1986 to 2001 and have since reformed as a band, very interesting layers of music, seems like a solid band, interesting sound.

they have a site

I know I had a few friends who were into indie music and listened to them when I was in High School. I think I may have heard of them from time to time on the local Alternative Rock radio station around that time too.

They never made it big, but had a pretty die-hard fan base all these years.

When I'd first heard The Getaway on the radio 3 or so summers ago while out working in the garage I loved it. Never bothered looking into any of their other music, but that one is really damn good.

I do believe I read in the comments for that video that one of the members died shortly after that video was released.

Yeah... It was Mark Lanegan.

Looks like he was a member of The Screaming Trees, a name I haven't heard since High School.

Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You

Boy... That one was a jam. I forgot about this song until just right now.

He was also part of Queens of the Stone age when they put out another jam I liked from the early 2000's called "No One Knows".

Dave Grohl from Nirvana and The Foo Fighters was on drums for that song.

Lyrics:

We get some rules to follow
That and this, these and those
No one knows

We get these pills to swallow
How they stick in your throat?
Tastes like gold

Oh, what you do to me
No one knows

And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I

I journey through the desert
Of the mind with no hope
I follow

I drift along the ocean
Dead lifeboats in the sun
And come undone

Pleasantly caving in
I come undone

And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I

Heaven smiles above me
What a gift here below
But no one knows

The gift that you give to me
No one knows
