Glad you liked the Young Rebels mention. That show was really something special. I watched it mainly because I was obsessed at the time over Hilary Thompson, but it also had Lou Gossett (Enemy Mine) and Alex Hentelhoff (the plant manager who would go on to invent "transparent aluminum" in Star Trek IV ). Being a history buff I totally loved the show, just like I loved The Swamp Fox and Daniel Boone.

Alien Nation is on my list as well now as The Rookie. At least Nathan got about seven seasons on that show. Also the original Battlestar Galactica.

I think you're right about that. I just don't hear "Alien Nation" thrown around too often and I thought maybe they'd come out with a recent reboot or something. I pay so little attention to new stuff that it wouldn't surprise me to find out it's been remade twice at this point.

I couldn't give you much of a review for the show myself. I do remember watching it with my old man every week when I was a kid. It was just one of the sci-fi shows that we watched together over the years like War of the Worlds, the 80's Twilight Zone, Max Headroom, etc.

Personally, I didn't think much of it and it was one of my least favorite shows that we watched together, and I don't really remember much outside of what the two main characters looked like. I very much remember the alien costume/makeup, but I could be putting some other dude's face in place of the human partner.

But you can't take that review seriously at all since I was probably between 6 and 10 years old when that was on and most of anything that they were talking about would have been over my head and/or really boring to me. It's just nothing I would have watched on my own and it was just spending time with Dad that counted. The fact that it was basically a cop show doesn't help with me either. If there is one popular genre of TV show out there that I've avoided and never even finished a single episode of in my life it would be a cop/lawyer TV show.

I've heard good things about Alien Nation since, on YouTube and such. Obviously, the premise serves as a platform for Progressive messaging, and I wouldn't have had to watch any YouTube videos to even know that. As an adult, you can just look at the title of the show and a poster for it and glean as much.

But I don't think that necessarily means that it's bad or that I wouldn't even enjoy it on a second watch all these years later. I don't take offense to most mid-80's progressive policy or talking points, and even happen to agree with a lot of them. By the late 90's I think a lot of it had been working and doing good. My group when I was in my late teens and early 20's was what the kids would call quite diverse. But we didn't even think about that. We just hung out and had a good time.

I'd say it's a shame we all didn't keep in touch, but really we were all probably better off going our separate ways and growing up. We had a lot of fun and most of us didn't get into too much trouble, but we were all going nowhere together.

But I do think of a lot of those people I used to hang out with from time to time and wonder what a relationship would be like with them today. Would we accidentally bump into each other and pick up conversation like the last time we saw each other was a week ago instead of 20 years ago, or would all of the bullshit and politics have driven a big wedge in between that now?

I never talked politics back then. None of them did either. We didn't give a shit about the names Clinton or Bush, and the only time they ever came up is if SNL did a funny skit about them that week. I think it's a shame that the kids today don't get to feel what that was like.

9/11 was the true turning point. Nothing was ever the same after that.

Yeah. I think TV like that was good and did open up a dialogue. They could sneak in those "gotcha" moments and trick you into walking a mile in somebody else's shoes if you let them. I really liked the movie 12 Angry Men, but back in its day it had to be told in movie form for the most part. By the 80's there were so many shows being made and more networks like Fox popping up that they were able to do a lot more with it.

I keep up with some old friends, but they're all from school and mostly before I was out partying and stuff even though some of them were involved in some of that. I mean more my "crew" that I got into trouble with regularly. A couple of regular white guys, with our black and Mexican and Chinese friend kind of at the core of it all, but we had a lot of people we were always hanging around with that would pop up regularly whether it was at a random house party or one of the bars. Hung out with more Mexicans those 5 years than ever before or again in my life. Hell... after I survived that beat down and didn't go to the court cases for the 3 guys involved that didn't stab me and I happened to bump into them at a party about a year later, the rest of their pretty mixed crew treated me like a king for a while there. Never let my guard down around 'em, of course, but that was my closest experience to "thug life" and I've got a few stories out of it.

I don't talk to any of them after having moved away for a good job and I slowly stopped coming back into town on weekends and we lost touch. I don't think I even have any old contact info on any of them saved anywhere to try, even if I wanted to. At one point after I finally sobered up I got rid of a lot of old stuff and just wanted a clean break from everything.

It would be interesting to see how they're doing.

It was all Perot and Clinton and GWB jokes with some Bob Dole sprinkled in for us.

Aw yeah... Max Headroom and War of the Worlds were great. Even as a kid. I never went back and watch Max Headroom as an adult but I've always wanted to. I was too young to get that one too, but Max was awesome. I was a little older when War of the Worlds came out and understood what was going on in that show and I loved it on the rewatch in my late 20s. But I think even if I wasn't it would have been interesting enough to keep me liking it anyway.

TV was good for opening up discussions back in the day. I saw 12 Angry Men but I didn't like it. Now, I couldn't tell you what it was about except it was a court room drama and the 12 were the jurors.

I was never a party girl but a couple of my friends were. Pot, alcohol as well as just regular cigarettes. My dad was a smoker and I knew what could happened, so I have never gone near them. Alcohol, I tried once and when the wine I sampled numbed my upper palate, I never went near it again. Never did drugs either and I can't stand the smell of pot.

I think SNL was funnier when I was a teenager with Dan Ackroyd, Gilda Radner and that rest of that crew.

Don't think I've seen Max since high school unless out of curiosity I looked it up on YouTube. Think I did find War of the Worlds one time. I think it was one of the first American productions filmed up here. It was filmed in and around Toronto.
