I posted about Fallout in the Sci-Fi thread last night after watching the 1st episode and said that if it keeps up the same quality it will be the best video game adaptation ever made and nothing else is even close.
I'm now halfway through Season 1 and I'm thrilled to report that nothing has changed. In fact, by now I'm even more engaged and I can't wait to see what comes next. I'm already feeling sad that there are only 4 episodes remaining and it might be a year or more before I get to see what comes after that.
Forget video games for a moment. This is the most engaged I've been in a TV show since I first started watching Black Mirror almost a decade ago.
Some might have a problem with the fact that none of these events happening are directly from any of the games, but I haven't heard those complaints and they wouldn't be valid anyway. Fallout is a vast universe, spanning hundreds of years, with almost limitless storytelling potential. As long as they don't do anything that would ret-con or otherwise destroy other parts of the story that have already been told, they can tell any story they want to within the world.
A lesson learned from Kathleen Kennedy's failures at Lucasfilm/Disney, perhaps?
I noticed during the credits that Todd Howard is involved and it shows. And though there's always been mixed feelings about Todd among the Fallout fandom for certain choices they made with the later games, Fallout 4 and Fallout '76 in particular, I don't think he's going to allow anybody to screw up canon.
The sets are AMAZING. The vaults look exactly like real-life versions of what is in the games. I noticed little details like in the chamber where the door to the outside world is located they even took the time and effort to put rust all over the walls, showing that even if an almost limitless amount of money from rich people went into constructing them with the best tech available at the time, when over 200 years pass, things aren't going to look as pretty as they did when they were first built if they aren't maintained. None of the living spaces once you get beyond the chamber have any rust and are well maintained.
There are so many little details to be found all around. As a fan of the games I bet you could rewatch this 10 times and still see easter eggs and other nods to the game that you didn't notice before.
The entire cast is EXCELLENT and Walton Goggins in particular was perfect casting. As I assumed from the trailer, he appears to be the anti-hero. I didn't realize just how much of a bad guy he was going to be from the start, but by episode 4 I'm starting to see cracks in that and I think he's got a huge redemption arc coming his way. But it would never have happened if he hadn't met Ella Purnell's Lucy first and been reminded that there actually is good left in the world.
Fallout isn't just the best video game adaptation ever made. If they keep this up until the show finally ends, it could end up being one of the best TV shows I've ever seen.
Thanks to everyone involved for doing it justice.
I really feel bad for fan communities for things like Resident Evil and Lord of the Rings. Those projects were made before the venture capital dried up and were run by DEI staff that hated the source material and so they were ruined by The Message despite the gorgeous sets and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on them.
They got Fallout right though.

There is a ZERO percent chance that these claims are true.
There is no technology on the planet that allows you to charge your tiny cell phone battery in 10 minutes. Safely or otherwise. You are certainly not going to charge the bank of batteries you need to drive 250 to 600 miles in an extremely heavy vehicle in 10 minutes.
Is it any wonder that nobody trusts the Legacy Media anymore when they'll post blatant lies like these.
If and when such technology finally exists, I'll let everyone else be the guinea pigs for it. Then I can laugh and read about the stories where the Chinese lack of quality control on their SUPER Batteries leads to a bunch of Americans having their genitals blown off in the explosion from their pocket. He's not wrong. 2024 is a terrible year for Hollywood. Quite a few different reasons for it.
Without seeing the budgets, I think that both Deadpool & Wolverine and Joker 2 will both be money makers.
The only potential trouble for Deadpool is if it spent stupid money like Disney blew constantly on flop after flop in 2023. Deadpool would not survive a Indy 5 level $380 Million budget. It would probably have a difficult time surviving a Captain Marvel 2 level $270 Million budget in 2024. But I think it easily makes some money even if it spent 2023 stupid levels of $150 to $200 Million. It's one of the few movies coming out this year that would. It won't make a ton of money if the budget is $200 Million, but at least it won't join the long list of flops we've already racked up this year.
I have a feeling that even though Joker 2's budget is going to get a huge bump from Joker's $50 Million budget, it's not going to be much more than $100 Million. I also think they're going to regret every dollar over $150 Million they spent on this one if they let the budget creep that high this time. Obviously, Joker 2 isn't going to be close to a Billion Dollar movie like the first one was, especially not in 2024. I believe a showing in between the current Top 2 movies in the world is likely, which is to say it will probably make more than Godzilla/Kong's $565 Million, but it probably won't make more than Dune Part 2's $710 Million. In the unlikely event that it does, I don't imagine it would be by much.
