On the contrary, I usually get everything right.

If Chauvin doesn't win his appeal it's because the FBI asset that stabbed him 22 times on Joe Biden*'s order won't fail the 2nd time.

And if you think Joe Biden*'s polling is bad now, just wait until Trump gets back on Twitter.

He's got zero reason to bother doing it right now until the Primary is over.

Tick Tock

The failures of Disney Marvel and the failure of DC / WB and a movie 'Wish'

Barbie made WB money which would go against SixString's overall prediction, however the final figures for 2023 are not out yet

'Sony' has made money, Mario, Spider-Man No Way Home, Godzilla they also have the other property like Goosebumps, Angry Birds, Bond, Karate Kid, Jumanji, Playstation Gamer and 'Music' properties...a future possibility for profits on 'Bad Boys' was probably killed by the Will Smith slap

I never said Barbie was going to fail. I just more or less said that I personally thought it looked terrible and I didn't understand why it was going to be a success, and such a massive one at that. There was never a "Failure" thread created for it. They had a hell of a marketing crew on that one. It is the single reason why Warner Bros. isn't joining Disney on the top of the 2023 losers list.

If I'm going to take an "L" on that thread, I'm going to take it for my extreme underestimation of Oppenheimer in the same thread. I did say on more than one occasion that there was no way in hell that Oppenheimer was going to gross close to a Billion and it ended up very close at $953,390,290 worldwide. That movie made more than double what I thought it ever would.

Somebody could probably write a book about the whole Barbieheimer phenomena.

'Sony' has made money

I haven't updated the charts since October 31st, but for the top 100 grossing Worldwide Movies in 2023*, here's where Sony stood...

Total Combined Production Budgets: $361,000,000
Total Worldwide Gross: $1,429,753,682
Total Profit (Using 2.5 times the Production Budgets): $527,253,682

On October 31st, it was in 3rd place of all the studios behind Universal ($1,452,995,847 Profit), and Warner Bros ($812,438,849 Profit).

*When I say "Top 100", it was any movie that happened to be in the worldwide Top 100 as of the time I updated the lists. More than a handful of those movies have aged off the Worldwide Top 100 list as the year dragged on.

There was also a small handful of movies that I didn't add to the list because there was no production budget or opening weekend data for them. If memory serves, these were only Anime flicks and they may have aged off of the Top 100 by now anyhow.

Because it's only the Top 100 grossing flicks at any point in time when the lists were updated, it likely doesn't paint the full picture for many of these studios. They likely had low budget and/or indie flicks they released that hardly did any business at all. I know this is the case for sure because Disney has had quite a few of them released under their FOX Searchlight banner. They were all financial failures in 2023, at least according to the 2.5xRoT.

- Russia peaked last summer in terms of its strength in this war relative to Ukraine. Despite their mobilisations they will fight more defensively than offensively this year. They will lose more territory than they gain, but Ukrainian victories won't be as stunning as last year as Russia has more manpower and a shorter front line to defend. Bakhmut will hold. More mobilisations and replacements of top Russian generals wouldn't surprise me - this year, or next.

Why can't some hungry independent creators get their hands on the rights for once? Don't bother answering that... I already know that it's because the branding is so expensive only assholes like Bezos can afford them anymore.

You can't blame me for making that prediction given their track record.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will be watching it soon. I do believe I may have been wrong here. All of the right people are saying it's good. And by "right people" I mean people who actually love video games and the Fallout series in particular. I don't give a shit what somebody like the Twitter weirdos on one side or the Critical Drinker on the other side have to say about it.

I'll give it a watch and let you know what I think. I'm probably the closest thing we've got to a Fallout Universe expert in these forums, so if I give it the go-ahead I think you can safely watch it without worrying you're going to hate it.

I still have not watched it. I did, however, show my old man the trailer for it when he was here last week, telling him I was very hopeful that it was actually going to be a worthwhile watch, especially for long time fans of the games.

I think the last game he ever played games was probably Dig-Dug or Centipede. He wouldn't have known Fallout was based off a video game unless somebody told him.

He loved the trailer. In fact, I wasn't even able to convince him to wait on watching it until the next time I went with him to visit my brother. I think if I pushed really hard I could have gotten him to wait, but I could tell he was looking forward to seeing it and I didn't want to make him wait on it.

They had one more episode left to watch when I talked to him today. They love it. Not a single complaint after being 7 episodes in.

This news makes me happy.

It looks like they finally might have gotten the best people for a job together to tell their own story while respecting the universe it spawned from.

My dad and I have had a lot of overlapping interests over the years. Some of our favorite TV shows are each other's favorite TV shows as are quite a few of our favorite movies and books. It's always been cool to share a common interest like that and be able to watch movies together and either really enjoy them, or see how similar our reactions are when all we want to do is just tear down a crappy movie we just watched.

But that didn't follow on up into adulthood with video games. At some point I kept playing them and the parents didn't play them anymore. Then a couple generations go by and we've got real cinematography and writing and directing and voice acting in games. They aren't exactly on the level of Hollywood films in presentation yet, but they give you something that no other traditional media can give you. Agency in the world that the story is presenting to you.

But I was never going to get my dad to play a video game. Maybe I could ask him if he wants to play 2 players on Dig-Dug, or HAL's Hole in One Golf for a brief nostalgia drip, but getting my dad to sit down for many hours to play an interactive story with enough interesting things going on under the hood to pad out the time between story progression? Never.

But now, he gets to see a world that we otherwise never would
