I generally only refer to folk who act like a Libtard, post like a Libtard, are illogical like a Libtard, are irrational like a Libtard, as Libtards. Folk who don't exhibit the characteristics of Libtards are normally not referred to as Libtards by me.

Senators have condemned it. Fox News rails against it. What is this much-maligned theory, and why are we hearing so much about it now?

In America’s never-ending culture wars, a new phrase has begun popping up with ever-increasing frequency: critical race theory.

Senators have spoken out against it. Parents have fought their school boards over it. Fox News mentions it so often that it sometimes refers to it just by its initials, CRT.

One such headline concerned Nicole Solas, a mother in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Ms Solas, who says her young daughter just started school, suspected that it was teaching her the dreaded CRT. She demanded to see the curriculum.

After meeting resistance, Ms Solas filed over 160 public records requests, according to local reports. Exasperated, the school board met to consider suing her to stop. The drama earned her an interview on Fox & Friends.

“I have a lot of questions,” Ms Solas told the hosts. “They’re teaching something that they’re trying to hide from you… They’re being opaque about it.”

What is that “something”? What school of thought could be so heinous that American parents – and the TV stations they watch – are up in arms over it?

The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines critical race theory as an “intellectual movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is … a socially constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to oppress and exploit people of colour.”

Officially organised in 1989, the theory essentially acknowledges what modern progressives call “systemic racism” – discrimination that’s not just acted out by individuals, but baked into our society’s institutions.

“Critical race theorists hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist,” the encyclopaedia goes on, “insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.”

Republican pundits and politicians, however, present it differently. When conservatives complain about critical race theory, they often say it accuses people – not institutions – of inherent racism.

“Critical race theory asserts that people with white skin are inherently racist, not because of their actions, words or what they actually believe in their heart – but by virtue of the colour of their skin,” Rep Ralph Norman, South Carolina’s Republican congressman, said at a press conference earlier this month.

He was flanked by several other members of the House GOP’s Freedom Caucus, including the conservative firebrand Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, as they unveiled a bill to stop the teaching of CRT.

Rep Lauren Boebert of Colorado put it more simply.

“Democrats want to teach our children to hate each other,” she said.

Experts say this misrepresents critical race theory, whether or not it’s on purpose.

“I’m not really sure that the conservatives right now know what it is or know its history,” Andrew Hartman, a history professor at Illinois State University, told NPR.

But that might be beside the point. What critical race theory represents to conservatives, Mr Hartman says, is a threat to the idea that America has already solved its racism problem.

“Conservatives, since the 1960s, have increasingly defined American society as a colourblind society, in the sense that maybe there were some problems in the past but American society corrected itself and now we have these laws and institutions that are meritocratic and anybody, regardless of race, can achieve the American dream,” the professor said.

Critical race theory gets in the way of that idea, so according to Republican leaders, it must be stopped.

An entire group, defined by them acting as Libtard, would be a fair target to being referred to as Libtard.

For example, almost everybody who states as fact that 2 + 2 = 5 is clearly a Libtard. That statement does not conform with reality.
Likewise, all people who claim that having massive budget cuts will reduce the budget all the way from $900 Billion down to $1.1 Trillion, they are also all Libtards. That math also does not comport with reality, only with Libtard Maths.

I wouldn't call my interactions with JSF in the Garden thread trolling. It's actually been very helpful to me so far, although I know in many ways it's not been helpful in the way that he intended it to be.

He did insult me several times there, or at the very least it very much appeared so in a written form. I won't abide that, so I let him know that (A) I do things on my own time frame, (B) before I do something that is going to be labor and/or cost intensive and/or that requires me going into that pit of a crawl space I need to agree there is a benefit of doing it, and (C) that I've still got a billion other things on my plate right now that I'm trying to balance out.

Aside from teaching tech to family, I don't like teaching people stuff at all. I have zero patience for it. I let them know at my last job that I wasn't going to teach anybody how to do the job either, and if they really liked how I did things well enough to want me to do so that they could give me a manager position.

I'm glad that JSF has been around to throw ideas out there and that he stopped with the insults. I let the huge bolding of the yellow paint marker thing slide, because he is helping me and that little dig is nothing comared to the guy whispering to his wife for me to get a haircut and a vaccine when they entered the store behind me the other day. Totally not worth blowing up and losing help over.

But yeah... I don't like the Libtard thing. It's only slightly better than Roomba's Nazi thing was.

I think at the end of the day, except for Brenda (obviously) and Sigs (most of the time), we're all pretty confrontational people.

That's going to probably be amplified now that the worst of the worst here are gone and all we really have left is Second and Ted.

I got another Weekly Update email from Judicial Watch:

School District Settles with Coach Fired for Objecting to Critical Race Theory

David Flynn has been a devotee of Dedham Massachusetts High School his whole life. As a student, he led the football team to a championship, then became the assistant football coach for four years, and eventually took the role of head coach in 2011.

However, he was abruptly fired in 2021 after exercising his right as a parent-citizen to raise concerns about critical race theory and Black Lives Matter propaganda in his daughter’s seventh-grade history class.

We took his case, and we’re pleased to announce that he settled his civil rights lawsuit against his former employers at Dedham Public Schools.

“The past two years have been difficult for me and my family. I thank my family, friends, and everyone else who reached out for their continued support,” said Coach Flynn. “With Judicial Watch’s help, I can move on from this challenging situation knowing that by raising my concerns through the appropriate channels I made a difference for the students and families of Dedham Public Schools. I hope other parents can learn from this and not back down from fighting for what is best for their families.”

As part of the settlement, the Superintendent of Dedham Public Schools, Michael Welch, acknowledged “the important and valid issues” raised by Flynn and specific changes in school policies because of Flynn’s complaint, including banning teachers from promoting Black Lives Matter to students online.

The Superintendent’s acknowledgment is the result of a February 2021 lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts against the superintendent, high school principal, and high school athletic director for retaliating against Flynn for exercising his First Amendment rights (Flynn v. Forrest et al. (No. 21-cv-10256)).

The superintendent wrote in the letter that Flynn’s concerns were valid and that the school district is amicable to the settlement:

Dear Dave,

I hope you and your family are well. I am writing this letter to acknowledge the important and valid issues you raised regarding the Dedham Public Schools and the subsequent lawsuit you filed in federal court. I am pleased that we are able to amicably settle this matter after the recently filed appeal of the court’s decision.

First and foremost, I want to acknowledge and validate the concerns you initially raised regarding your daughter’s experiences at Dedham Middle School. You had every right to inquire about these issues, and you followed the appropriate steps in attempting to learn more. You correctly pointed out that the 7th grade social studies curriculum had significantly changed and parents were not informed of these changes. In probing this matter further, you discovered that the district’s website did not accurately reflect the new curriculum content, and parents were unable to understand what was being taught. Your legitimate questions prompted additional conversations at the School Committee level that ultimately led to the establishment of a Curriculum Advisory Committee that now brings together parents, community members, and district educators to broadly review and more thoroughly communicate curriculum changes and concerns. Curriculum updates are a necessary and important part of the work of school districts, and effectively communicating these improvements is a critical component of this process.

Your initial inquiry triggered a larger internal conversation about the district’s oversight in the teaching of these new curriculum units. More specifically, the sequencing of the curriculum’s identity unit and the virtual use of a Black Lives Matter emoji t-shirt by a teacher sparked a series of intense conversations about teacher autonomy and the importance of balanced messaging and viewpoints in the classroom.
