this has bugged me for years and i'm wondering if anybody else noticed it,
there's a big fuss made about how vampires don't breath and have no breath to do mouth to mouth yet they manage to smoke, how?

They can still move their chest muscles, and simulate breathing. Also, moving smoke from mouth through nose does not require anything but the smoke.
I smoke, so I know these things.
(edited to add)
But, yes, you do have a point. The whole "not breathing" thing really falls down when you see Angel or Spike, or any other vampire really, panting after exertion. Kinda destroys the verisimilitude.

It's, uhm, an 'instinctual reaction of the body to exertion'. The vampires don't _need_ it, but it's hard-wired into our bodies that when we exert ourselves, we breath in heavily, so it still happens.
Yeah, that's the ticket.

Oh! Great save!
I love the rationalization portion of the brain, it makes watching anything so much more enjoyable.
No, I'm not being entirely sarcastic, I'm sincere. Anything that helps me get over those lack-of-verisimilitude humps is helpful. Thank you.

Frequently, vampires will pant or smoke, or produce other "live human" physical ticks, to seem more....alive.
Right on.

That's right, even after you're dead you still need your smokes.

the "it's a reflex" safe is a pretty good one I think.
what bugges me all the time is the vampires have no body heat thing. they always forget this and have someone touch or even kiss a vampire and don't know that he/she is a vampire.
I can get over shaking hands and not thinking much about room temperature hands although that is pretty much very cold, people usually have warmer hands even if they have 'cold hands'.
what I can't overlook is touching the face or arm, let alone kissing or sleeping with soemone and not knowing if they are a vampire or not.
like in the EP where Wes tried to stand in for Angel because Angel wasn't ther eor something. and this girl actually slept with him and supposedly knew about vampires and still managed to not get that Wes was NOT a vampire.
and if vampires can smoke they can also perform CPR, it's just about pumping air into someones lungs, no 'life-giving' necessary.

How about at the end of 'Prophecy Girl' where Angel cant perform CPR on Buffy and Xander has to do it?
Probably just another inconsistency I think. Doesntg bother me much...its a TV show about vampires..ya know?

actually, one of the things that really gets me is how vampires bleed. of course, if there is pressure in their vessels, any cut will cause them to bleed, but you would think that after years of fighting that there would be no blood left! of course, it could be the blood they drink that is flowing their their veins.
okay, i just logic-ed myself out of this post.

Oh yeah! Well somebody explain to me how Angel sucked that one lady's blood and then exhaled the smoke she had just inhaled. This was right when he first turned back into Angelus in Season 2.
I mean did he puncture her lungs with his fangs or something? Those would have to be pretty darn long fangs.

This is a show set in a fantastical universe. Talking about the fact that vampires bleed when they have no circulation makes no sense - they're mythological creatures in the context of the show, animated by supernatural forces. If Joss wants them to bleed, they bleed.
