It is NOT treason in Ukraine to talk about casualties or military misfortunes, but in Russia it is 15 years in jail for simply calling Ukraine invasion a 'war'. Casualties numbers are a Russian secret that will get you executed for treason.

Do you REALLY think that a Ukrainian intelligence official is going to say "We're getting our ass handed to us. Losing 500-1000 soldiers every day. All of our major diesel refineries have been destroyed, our train substations have been destroyed, most of our ammo dumps have been destroyed, we have no way of moving troops and ammunition to the front, let alone heavy equipment like artillery and tanks. At this rate our army will collapse in a month." ?

I see this as a race to the ...er ... finish. IMHO Russians usually play a long game, but I suspect they have a deadline in mind: to finish off Ukraine b4 the USA gets its feet underneath it and starts to get involved in a real way. I can see us turning this into another Vietnam.
