There's a really good sale on mulch until Saturday, but right now I'm in no position to store it until I'm ready to use it, and I'm far from ready to do that. I actually got a reprieve on that mulch. This week's ad just came out and they've got a better mulch on sale. Totally worth an extra .22 cents a bag for this stuff over the other stuff. They've also got a great sale on river rock and black dirt too. I'm going to use river rock along the back of the house and on the sides and back of the garage after I do all of my foundation work and grade it away with dirt. Not sure if I will have enough space to store all of this without getting all of it in the way of things I need to have access too, but I'm damned well going to try my best.
The garage became a BIG project today. Instead of throwing out the 4 dressers, I ended up dismantling them. It turns out the tops and the sides are very good wood and will be perfect to reuse as tops for my shelves. After tearing all of them apart and organizing stuff, I decided to also drop electric from the ceiling and start drilling through the studs to get ready to put some outlets on that side before I put the shelves there and load them up. I haven't seen that wall in about 9 years now, so no better time than now to start using up all of that conduit I've had for ages.

Good morning at mah jong as I won second place. Finished the morning with over 4,000 points. Weather is trying to hold good but there is a rain on the way.

Congrats on 2nd place.
I started the day pretty good. Got up early, did some paperwork and picked up some things at the hardware store I needed for the garage. Managed to get all of the electric I needed to get in the exposed section of the wall before it gets covered with my shelves that I still haven't built.
I took 4 bats of insulation down so far. Two of them were pristine except for about 6" I needed to cut off at the bottom that looked a little moldy. But the other two.....? GROSS. Only the top 1/3rd of them were worth saving at all. There were obvious mouse tunnels up and down them, and one of them even had a dead mouse in it. Obviously I'm going to have to find where they were getting in and seal that up. I still haven't seen any holes yet, but I've got about 12 more bats to take down as I expose things and work my way to the front of the garage. I was really surprised to see all of this because other than inside the insulation I really don't ever see much evidence of mouse activity out there since I learned the hard way many years back that you don't leave half a bag of grass seed out in the garage all winter long.
I had to stop early though. It's just too damn cold right now. Wrapped up at around 1:30PM today. Maybe tomorrow will be my day off. It's only going to be a high of 38 degrees with rain. I'm even supposed to wake up with more snow on the ground tomorrow morning. :(
55 on Sunday though. 60 on Monday. :)

It was a beautiful day around where I am but the clouds are rolling in and it should start raining I guess by the time I head to bed then into tomorrow. *sigh*

And ... mice in garage insulation? Oh dear. But I have a ? If the garage is unheated why insulate? Anyway, this could be very old mouse activity. I can't imagine mice living very long with little glass splinters in nose, mouth, and stomach.
Mice and rats can squeeze thru small holes since their widest part is the skull. You'd have to be looking for a hole the size of a dime, or smaller.

Did everything on my to-do list plus bit more. Yesterday was 103F according to hubby who took dear daughter out for grocery shopping and running errands. Today about the same so I'll think about paperwork I might have missed, and dusting and damp-mopping today and tomorrow, plus maybe get a start on my 2021 hardcopy filing. Let's see how far I get into THAT.

Well... warm-ish. We keep gettting teased with a day in the high 60's or the low 70's only to get a few in the 30's and 40's. Monday through Wednesday is in the 60's and 70's but looks like a LOT of rain. Then they're already saying that next Monday we could see snow again!!!
Really not very comfortable with how much rain we've had so far. I'm hoping that gets dialed back a bit, or I'm really going to be getting a test this year if my foundation patches did anything.

Well, there were 2 owners before I was here and after the garage was built, I believe. I know the dad of the family that was here for decades used to work on cars in the garage. There is a large pipe going out the center of the roof (probably to remove exhaust?), and there is a gas pipe that terminates right outside the back of the garage at the bottom with a hole in the bottom of the garage where it would have gone inside. Frankly, I'm not a fan of that pipe being there at all because it's dangerous and I don't even know if it's live or where from the house it even comes from, but it's evidence that it was heated at one time.
But the insulation only covered about 2/3rds of one wall. It's like they started the job and ran out of money or something. I was hoping that the stuff would be in better shape than it was. I bought 9 bats of insulation back during Black Friday week in 2019 for only $5 each after a $10 rebate, but that won't be enough to do the porch. There's not a lot of space I'll need to use it on the front and back with the large windows and the entry door, but I'll use up quite a bit of it on the shed side and run out fairly early on in the attic.
So far, I'd say that out of 4 bats I got about 2 1/2 that are usable. If that ratio is maintained, I probably will not have to go out and buy more. Fingers crossed.

It probably is. It had to have been about 9 years since I left the grass seed out there the one winter, and they destroyed EVERYTHING around the bag. Even my spreader got ruined that year since they chewed through one of the inflatable tires on it, and it wasn't until YEARS later that I finally got around to drilling a few holes through some comparable wheels I'd gotten from my brother when his wagon broke that I was able to attach a new tire to it and get it working again.
Since then, I've never seen any droppings anywhere... At least in places that I can see. And aside from inside the insulation and under it, I'm not seeing any under where the dressers were before I dismantled them. About 2 or 3 years ago I did see a dead mouse right on the floor in the garage after winter time. Around that same time was when I was doing dehoarding and re-org and there wasn't any droppings on any of my stuff that's up in the rafters.

And speaking of mice... I think I FINALLY took care of the problem in the house now that the outside of the porch was sealed up (more for fear of raccoons than anything else) and we got the new windows and exterior door up. I have had 2 traps out for around 6 months now without a bite and I haven't seen nor heard any activity since then.

Good luck! I'm taking a day off. I'm back on a good schedule of waking up every day between 6 and 7 AM, which is nice, but boy is this cold rainy weather messin' with the joints today.

True on mice in a garage. My old landlady had squirrels in her attic a year or so before I moved out. And there have been raccoons around where I've lived before and I've heard coyotes in my city too.
Hope your foundation patches hold if you get too much rain.
Oh, I wish. They need it more than poor ol' BC does that is for sure.
