The Russian Foreign Minister said at the UN a little while ago that the murder of reporter Brent Renaud was legitimate because he was a "filmmaker" and not a "journalist".
Apparently he believes that not only do new Russian laws outlawing anyone filming or reporting on their war/invasion apply in the foreign land they are trying to occupy, but that a penalty of summary execution without trial of filmmakers from a third country is a legitimate action.
For the record, the wounded reporter who was with Brent Renaud says that they were denied access through a Russian checkpoint in Ukraine. The driver had turned the vehicle around and they were leaving the area when the Russians opened fire on their vehicle.

Not the callous statement you imply.
Russians would not shoot a journalist or filmmaker on purpose: that's too much bad publicity.
But they might shoot one by mistake. The circumstances aren't clear. Were they approaching a checkpoint? Had they been cleared at the checkpoint? Did they just drive through, swimming upstream, so to speak, of the refugees? Had they turned around? How to account for their wounds to the back? (There was another person with him.) Were they asked to halt? If so, did they hear and/or understand?
Were they wearing any sort of insignia identifying themselves as filmmakers? (Not being journalists, they would not have had "journalist" tags.) We're their cameras obvious?
I can imagine situations where checkpoint guards simply see two fit guys driving into a city from which many people are fleeing. They should have stopped, or been stopped, at the checkpoint and been cleared. But maybe the checkpoint wasn't obvious, or they didn't hear the order, or they were so anxious to get the story they ignored all that and drive through, and what we have is a tragic misunderstanding by the guards.
In civilian life, circumstances make the difference between accident (I tripped and fell and the gun went off), negligent homicide (I was cleaning a loaded gun and it went off), manslaughter (I thought it was a robber but it was just my neighbor) and murder (I killed that SOB bc he voted for Trump).
Not sure about war.

Two more points:
1) If Trump wanted to prove the world wrong that believes he cheated on his income taxes and paid nothing, he should make his income tax forms publicly available. He said he would, many-many times, but he didn't. I think that is proof Trump cheated on his taxes and doesn't want the cheating confirmed.
2) If Putin wanted to prove the world wrong about his ambition to conquer the Eurasian continent, he should arrest/execute his philosopher, Aleksandr Dugin. Putin has arrested/executed many-many others who have plans for Russia incompatible with Putin's. Dugin is just one more.
Philosophers like Dugin tend to be more systematic than politicians like Putin. Unlike a politician, a philosopher will be more forthright, less sneaky, about ultimate goals. This philosopher Dugin, who Putin knows, doesn't run Russia, but if he did . . .

Hey Signym, do you remember the wall? It was put in place to keep people and countries answering to one authority: Russia. When the Soviet Union collapsed these people and countries regained their autonomy and they do not want to give it up.
Russia did not own these countries then, although it acted as if it did, which is why Russia’s attempt at a NATO failed. Just as everything Russia always fails.
It is not NATO that is destroying Russia. This time, as in the past, it is being destroyed from within.
