Clive Owen and Hugh Laurie being notably successful recent exports. I've been amazed that Monarch of the Glen has kept a pretty much intact cast over the past several years...Richard Brierly's departure in a permanent and spectacular way notwithstanding. Compton Mackenzie's books on which the series was based are pretty much out of print in the USA, sad to say. They're fun reading.

Dude, Da Nada is two words. TWO. It means, 'It's Nothing' It is not one word. And both MasterCard and SenSurround are made up, trademarked brand names, not real words like, say, firefly. Which is a real word, and should not be monkeyed with.

Dude,

English is a LIVING LANGUAGE! That means it can, and does, change. Slang words become part of the lexicon, for better or for worse, and alternate spellings can become the norm. Sorry if some people and their vocabulary don't fit into your narrow view of what is correct. You need to lighten up a little or you will go mad trying to correct everyone.

It's not that big of a deal. See the message, not the spelling.

I don't mean to alarm anyone but I may have just soiled myself laughing.

I don't think language is a statial thing anyway. The miracle of slang preserves us from that particular cultural stagnation.

In regards to "If FireFly Lived" I think Inara would have left and perhaps some convenient coincidince would see her meet up with the crew again.

I have the image in my head of Inara and Mal catching each other's eyes, being speechless fora few seconds, then Inara whacks him one with a general "you cad!" line. It's the traditional way of introducing an old female acquaintance. Hope Joss knows better.

I'd like to have seen Saffron join the crew as well. She was more intriguing than some of the core characters IMO!

If Firefly had lived beyond Season 1 with a signifigant following, then at least one of the major networks would have made an offering of their own. Likely we would see something like Battlestar Galactica a year or two sooner on NBC, rather then on SciFi (same company). I am of the opinion that NBC should show the new BG series this summer just to see if it can fly as a mainstream network show. I think they'd be surprised.

Also, if Firefly had lived, Bin Ladden would have been caught in March of 2002, there would have been no tsunnami, and Bush would have carried Pennsylvania, but lost Ohio. Funny how things work out.

I've already gone mad, as evidenced by my repeated posts refusing to back down on a grammar issue. I can't even think about the original point of this thread, because this is driving me round the bend. Funny thing is, the internet is a veritable minefield of poor grammar, but this bit of grammar trash is really stuck under my hull. Nonetheless, you are correct that language is a living thing, and so I'd better get used to the occasional cancerous lump.
So, what was the question? What if FireFly (cringe) had lived? I often like to imagine what this show would have evolved into, based on two other Whedon gems, Buffy and Angel. One thing I've noticed is that Joss seems to have great affection for seemingly unloveable characters. Cretins like Spike and Connor end up getting the girl, after all. Just one little aspect to ponder. I just mean that relationships in the Joss 'verse alsways end up a little sideways, so Serenity's 'couples' could end a few different ways.

I like to think that whatever Joss eventually does with his characters is just one iota less than the exact opposite of what one expects. There's always that little twist you didn't see after either the twist you expected or the last think you'd expect. You know?
