People keep citing this speech. I finally decided to look it up. All of Russia's concerns are here. Recent events shouldn't be a surprise, they are a natural outgrowth of the past.

Vladimir Putin’s Historical Speech at the
Munich Conference on Security Policy
The Washington Post,
Monday, February 12, 2007; 11:24 AM
Putin (in Russian): Thank you very much dear Madam Federal Chancellor, Mr Teltschik, ladies and gentlemen!
I am truly grateful to be invited to such a representative conference that has assembled politicians, military officials, entrepreneurs and experts from more than 40 nations.
This conference’s structure allows me to avoid excessive politeness and the need to speak in roundabout, pleasant but empty diplomatic terms. This conference’s format will allow me to say what I really think about international security problems. And if my comments seem unduly polemical, pointed or inexact to our colleagues, then I would ask you not to get angry with me. After all, this is only a conference. And I hope that after the first two or three minutes of my speech Mr Teltschik will not turn on the red light over there.
Therefore. It is well known that international security comprises much more than issues relating to military and political stability. It involves the stability of the global economy, overcoming poverty, economic security and developing a dialogue between civilisations.
This universal, indivisible character of security is expressed as the basic principle that “security for one is security for all”. As Franklin D. Roosevelt said during the first few days that the Second World War was breaking out: “When peace has been broken anywhere, the peace of all countries everywhere is in danger.
These words remain topical today. Incidentally, the theme of our conference — global crises, global responsibility — exemplifies this.
Only two decades ago the world was ideologically and economically divided and it was the huge strategic potential of two superpowers that ensured global security.
This global stand-off pushed the sharpest economic and social problems to the margins of the international community’s and the world’s agenda. And, just like any war, the Cold War left us with live ammunition, figuratively speaking. I am referring to ideological stereotypes, double standards and other typical aspects of Cold War bloc thinking.
The unipolar world that had been proposed after the Cold War did not take place either.
The history of humanity certainly has gone through unipolar periods and seen aspirations to world supremacy. And what hasn’t happened in world history?
However, what is a unipolar world? However one might embellish this term, at the end of the day it refers to one type of situation, namely one centre of authority, one centre of force, one centre of decision-making.
It is world in which there is one master, one sovereign. And at the end of the day this is pernicious not only for all those within this system, but also for the sovereign itself because it destroys itself from within.
And this certainly has nothing in common with democracy. Because, as you know, democracy is the power of the majority in light of the interests and opinions of the minority.
Incidentally, Russia – we – are constantly being taught about democracy. But for some reason those who teach us do not want to learn themselves.
I consider that the unipolar model is not only unacceptable but also impossible in today’s world. And this is not only because if there was individual leadership in today’s – and precisely in today’s – world, then the military, political and economic resources would not suffice. What is even more important is that the model itself is flawed because at its basis there is and can be no moral foundations for modern civilisation.
Along with this, what is happening in today’s world – and we just started to discuss this – is a tentative to introduce precisely this concept into international affairs, the concept of a unipolar world.
And with which resul

Vladimir Putin dialed up the president of France earlier today to let him know about Russia's plans for Ukraine:
Vladimir Putin has told Emmanuel Macron that Kyiv’s “refusal to accept Russia’s conditions” means “the worst is still to come” in Ukraine, saying Moscow was aiming to take “full control” by diplomatic or military means, according to the Elysée.
....Putin – who initiated the call – repeated that Moscow’s objective was the “neutralisation, demilitarisation and de-nazification” of Ukraine, the official said, adding that Macron had responded that Putin was making a “major mistake” that would cost Russia dearly over the long term.

This war could get very ugly, a long and bloody and insurgency, street by street, fighting from the trench from the abandoned half destroyed building, NATO and France and Germany and others gun running because they fear ist coming their way soon and an event with many years of blood that costs Russia and ties up their military many years. Seems Joe Biden is getting sleepy and Kamala Harris types now lead from behind, they in Europe and the US are still unsure how to keep buying gasoline and how not to turn off natural gas which will damage all economies of the world.

JONGSSTRAW, Being the cynic that you are, I'm surprised to see you hyperventilate like that.
Hilter killed six million undesirables and 20-30 million Russians.
Hs Putin reached that target yet?
2-3 million were killed in the Vietnam War. We carpet-bombed Cambodia, used napalm and poured Agent Oange all over the landscape which led to birth defects, in an unprovoked war. All war crimes, as far as I can tell.
Has Putin done that either?
We gave Saddam Hussein the technology to make and use chemical weapons on Iranians.
We killed a half-million Iraqi children with our sanctions beginning in 1990 (Madeline Albright said it was "worth it") and killed - directly or indirectly- up to a million Iraqi civilians in our 2003 invasion. Destroyed civilian infrastructure willy-nilly. Used white phosphorous in "shake and bake" missions and left depleted uranium scattered across the landscape. War crimes too, if I understand correctly.
Destroyed Yugoslavia under false pretext.
Bombed Afghanistan further back into the stone age.
Funded and armed "contra" death squads who roamed Nicaragua killing union leaders and reformers, funded and armed jihadists across the Middle East and N Africa (MENA).
Dstroyed Libya, also under false pretexts.
War crime after war crime. I can list many more.
Where are Putin's equivalent "crimes"? If Russia should be investigated, the USA should be investigated 10X over.
Please dial down the emotion, compare facts and figures, and engage perspective.
Not forgivig an war crime that Putin might or might not commit. Not forgiving or forgetting OURS, either.

IF Ukraine had been pushed to implement the Minsk Agreement instead of sabotage it, we would not be where we are today. But the IMF (please see my "Fight or die" thread, IMF's message to Ukraine) the USA and the EU have been relentlessly pushing Ukraine to kill its civilians in the east instead of negotiate, and Kiev has so far managed to kill somewhere between 3,000-10,000 civilians thru indiscrimate shelling of farms, villages and civilian infrastructure.
Why isn't anyone complaining about that? (Not that I would accuse anyone here of double standards /wink).
NATO's relentless push to the east, with the stated intention of breaking up Russia (You yourself advocated breaking up Russia, SECOND) ... is that not aggression? Placement of missile bases within minutes of Moscow? Dropping out of almost every treaty that we signed with Russia/Soviet Union?
I think that nobody took Putin seriously when he said it was an existential threat to Russia. Or they figured that he couldn't, or wouldn't, do anything about it. They figured wrong.
Well, Russia takes Russia's security seriously, even if the west didn't. So now we have to take the situation seriously.
Russia has completely broken with the west- economically, militarily, financially, culturally, politically. They no longer give a crap what we say, how we feel, what we think, or even what we do to them.
They understand that we are "not agreement capable". Anything promise we make, any treaty we sign, any international law or war crime definition, we ignore if they don't suit our purpose.
They tried to be our friend, or at least a reliable partner. We made an enemy out of a nation that would have been our friend, had we only given them security guarantees. Now, we have to deal with a military superpower enemy.

Yeah, I've seen "reports" like that before, and they were propaganda.
"Assad gassed his own people".
"Gaddafi gave his troops boner pills to rape prisoners".
"Babies torn from incubators and left to die on the cold tile floor"

SECOND: Signym, the first sentence you wrote is false. What's true is Russia insisted that it is not a party to the conflict and therefore is not bound by the terms of the Minsk Agreement.
There are NO PROVISIONS for Russia to fulfill, except at the very end, after the rupture in Ukraine has been healed, when Russia turns Ukraine/Russia border control back to Kiev.
Since Russia is not obliged to do anything to fix Kiev's problem with its eastern republics ... not required to negotiate with anyone, change its constitution, implement a cease fire, monitor the line of contact, withdraw troops and weapons, etc... and Ukraine agreed to it... Ukraine and the entire UN Security Council have, in fact, agreed that Russia is not party to the conflict.
From your link
Quote:But that is not the order that Ukraine agreed to. They were written in specific order with timelines and dates attached. Ukraineis attempting to renegotiate what it had agreed to,.
Ukraine sees the 2015 agreement as an instrument to re-establish control over the rebel territories.
It wants a ceasefire, control of the Russia-Ukraine border, elections in the Donbas, and a limited devolution of power to the separatists – in that order.
"Not agreement capable", from the USA playbook. You repeating the same disinfo over and over does not make it true.

A blind man can see what Putin wants he cannot attain. Even if he manages to have successes he could never hold Ukraine long term. It cost money to occupy a country. Especially such a large country.
Even a blind man can see there has already been an exodus of business out of Russia and the world has vowed not to lift sanctions. They won’t recover financially for decades. “Sadly, we are treading back through old historical patterns that we said that we would never permit to happen again,” Hill said.
“Ukraine has become the front line in a struggle, not just between democracies and autocracies but in a struggle for maintaining a rules-based system in which the things that countries want are not taken by force,” Hill said. “Every country in the world should be paying close attention to this.”
Putin is increasingly operating emotionally and likely to use all the weapons at his disposal, including nuclear ones.
“Every time you think, ’No, he wouldn’t, would he?’ Well, yes, he would,” Hill said. “And he wants us to know that, of course. It’s not that we should be intimidated and scared…. We have to prepare for those contingencies and figure out what is it that we’re going to do to head them off.”

Maura Reynolds: You’ve been a Putin watcher for a long time, and you’ve written one of the best biographies of Putin. When you’ve been watching him over the past week, what have you been seeing that other people might be missing?
Fiona Hill: Putin is usually more cynical and calculated than he came across in his most recent speeches. There’s evident visceral emotion in things that he said in the past few weeks justifying the war in Ukraine. The pretext is completely flimsy and almost nonsensical for anybody who’s not in the echo chamber or the bubble of propaganda in Russia itself. I mean, demanding to the Ukrainian military that they essentially overthrow their own government or lay down their arms and surrender because they are being commanded by a bunch of drug-addled Nazi fascists? There’s just no sense to that. It beggars the imagination.
Putin doesn’t even seem like he’s trying to make a convincing case. We saw the same thing in the Russian response at the United Nations. The justification has essentially been “what-about-ism”: ‘You guys have been invading Iraq, Afghanistan. Don’t tell me that I can’t do the same thing in Ukraine.”
This visceral emotion is unhealthy and extraordinarily dangerous because there are few checks and balances around Putin. He spotlighted this during the performance of the National Security Council meeting, where it became very clear that this was his decision. He was in a way taking full responsibility for war, and even the heads of his security and intelligence services looked like they’ve been thrown off guard by how fast things were moving.

TV Rain, the youthful independent television station that calls itself “the optimistic channel” said it would suspend operations indefinitely. Precipitating the outlet’s demise were plans by the Russian Parliament to take up legislation on Friday that would make news considered “fake” about Russia’s war in Ukraine punishable by yearslong prison terms. The Russian authorities have already made it clear that the very act of calling it a “war” — the Kremlin prefers the term “special military operation” — is considered disinformation.

Putin's recent essay, "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians," which was published on the Kremlin's website in Russian, English and Ukrainian, elaborates on his frequently stated assertion that Ukrainians and Russians are "one people." Putin posits that Ukraine can only be sovereign in partnership with Russia.
Putin has articulated an idea of there being a “Russky Mir” or a “Russian World.” The recent essay he published about Ukraine and Russia states the Ukrainian and Russian people are “one people,” a “yedinyi narod.” He’s saying Ukrainians and Russians are one and the same. This idea of a Russian World means re-gathering all the Russian-speakers in different places that belonged at some point to the Russian tsardom.
Putin’s been down in the archives of the Kremlin during Covid looking through old maps and treaties and all the different borders that Russia has had over the centuries. He’s said, repeatedly, that Russian and European borders have changed many times.
Putin is reestablishing Russian dominance of what Russia sees as the Russian “Imperium.” The lands of the Soviet Union didn’t cover all of the territories that were once part of the Russian Empire. Parts of the Empire are now parts of the European Union.
What Putin is saying now is that Ukraine doesn’t belong to Ukrainians. It belongs to him and the past. He is going to wipe Ukraine off the map, literally, because it doesn’t belong on his map of the “Russian world.” He’s basically told us that.

Putin had a brainstorm on TV to give out bribes: $65,000 to families of dead soldiers, $40,000 to wounded soldiers, posthumous medals for everybody! You probably don't realize it, but it very odd to make such a huge change in policy with no prior notice. Putin is panicking and is giving away cash to buy support for the war that is only a week old and (according to Putin) going as planned.
Putin promises 'additional payments' of 5 million rubles to Russian soldiers who die in Ukraine – plus money to 'compensate for any injuries' and cash for families. Said those who had to leave military service due to injury would get 2.9 million rubles as 'insurance payouts, plus compensation for any injuries'
Then he dangled additional 3 million ruble payouts to 'staff of the minister of Defense and any injured personnel'.

Did you ever see the movie Aliens (1986)? A Russian soldier reenacted a scene from that movie when surrounded. Putin gave a medal for heroism to the soldier who killed himself.
The families of the Russian military who died in Ukraine will be paid 7.421 million rubles, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised. He stressed that “Russian soldiers and officers act courageously, like real heroes.” The President awarded officer Nurmagomed Gadzhimagomedov the title of Hero of Russia posthumously. As reported, a serviceman blew himself up with a grenade surrounded by soldiers of the Ukrainian army.

In this scene, the Ukrainians are the Aliens and the Russians are the Space Marines. The Russians blew themselves up with a grenade.
The script reads: "You always were an asshole, Gorman."
But better would be: "You always were an asshole, PUTIN."

Old News, but relevant to today's Putin: Aug 25, 2015, 05:02pm EDT
Russia May Have Inadvertently Posted Its Casualties In Ukraine: 2,000 Deaths, 3,200 Disabled
Russian president Vladimir Putin has decreed that all Russian casualties “in peacetime” be a state secret. In addition to criminal charges arising from divulging state secrets, families risk losing pensions and lump-sum payments if they reveal that their sons were killed in Ukraine. Mothers of soldiers’ associations have been branded “foreign agents” for collecting data on Russian casualties. Dissident Boris Nemtsov was murdered shortly before completing his study of Russian casualties in Ukraine. Russian civil rights organizations, working against the fog of official resistance, could confirm only several hundred battlefield deaths.
The Delovaya zhizn inadvertent (or deliberate?) revelation of more than two thousand combat deaths in east Ukraine, if authentic, not only destroys the Putin myth of a small number of deaths of Russian patriots defending Russians in Ukraine from neo-Nazi extremists but also demolishes Putin’s cover story that no “active” member of the Russian armed forces is or has been in Ukraine. According to Putin, if there are Russian fighters in Ukraine, they had resigned and gone as volunteers. Note that contract fighters are paid for each day in the combat zone. In Russian military jargon, a contract soldier (kontraktnik) contracts to serve a specific period of time in the military (usually three years) in return for compensation and other benefits. The clause on payment for contract soldiers blows a huge hole through the cover story.
The Russian censors have removed the incriminating information. The Kremlin claims that the webcached material is a forgery. The figures, however, make sense and align with what should be obvious to all: Russian troops are in east Ukraine and are being supplied with heavy weapons by Russia. Deadly battles–such as those at Donetsk Airport and Debaltseve–have resulted in heavy casualties on each side. We also know how the Russian dead are secretly transported back to Russia for furtive burials.
Despite this mass of evidence, only one-quarter of Russians believe that Russia has troops in Ukraine. Will the alleged presence of 3,200 war invalids and more than 2,000 grieving families erode the belief that Russia is not conducting a war with its own troops against Ukraine? It seems that time and events will raise the number of Russians who believe the truth.

President Zelensky has survived at least three assassination attempts in the past week, The Times has learnt.
If the attempt was successful, Russian President Vladimir Putin would have been able to deny any involvement. “They would be going in there with a very high-profile mission, something that the Russians would want to be deniable — a decapitation of a head of state is a huge mission,” a source told the Times.
Two different outfits have been sent to kill the Ukrainian president — mercenaries of the Kremlin-backed Wagner group and Chechen special forces. Both have been thwarted by anti-war elements within Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
Wagner mercenaries in Kyiv have sustained losses during their attempts and are said to have been alarmed by how accurately the Ukrainians had anticipated their moves. A source close to the group said it was “eerie” how well briefed Zelensky’s security team appeared to be.

Without watching the video, I would say "yes".
I doubt anyone from the west has sat in even once on Russian Security Council deliberations. Nobody I know of... even relatively unbiased western sources... has the faintest clue as to what Russian plans for Ukraine REALLY are, except what has been stated publicly: neutralization and "de-Nazification".
Since Russia has publicly committed to these goals, let's assume those are the goals. How they intend to get there is anyone's guess. MY guess is they will apy the same tactics and strategies applied in Syria fighting jihadist terrorists: humanitarian corridors, and negotiating enemy retreat to concentrated areas (Idlib in Syria, maybe Galicia in Ukraine.) But that's just a guess. I make no claim to knowing Russia's plans, and unless someone is in their Security Council nobody else should either, bc it's all speculation and bullshit.

The Ides of March are approaching.
Who is the Caesar and who has the knives?
Did the death of Caesar curse the day, or was it just Shakespeare’s mastery of language that forever darkened an otherwise normal box on the calendar? If you look through history, you can certainly find enough horrible things that happened on March 15, but is it a case of life imitating art? Or art imitating life?
Perhaps it was Julius Caesar himself (and not the famous playwright) who caused all the drama. After all, he’s the one who uprooted Rome’s New Year celebration from their traditional March 15 date to January…just two years before he was betrayed and butchered by members of the Roman senate.

https://www.un.org/press/en/2003/sc7777.doc.htm
2) George Bush - The Texas Clemency Memos. During Bush's six years as governor 150 men and two women were executed in Texas—a record unmatched by any other governor in modern American history. (Bush proved his bad character 150 times, long before he was President. )
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2003/07/the-texas-clemenc

If one of these two men was deceitful, it would be Bush. Blabbering Bush would talk baseball to legal counsel Alberto R. Gonzales rather than do the Texas governor's job of being the only safeguard against executing the wrong Texan.
No surprise that Bush would execute an entire nation without thinking clearly about consequences. No surprise that the occupation of Iraq was a fiasco. Bush wasn't the kind of guy who paid attention to the tasks in front of him, then honestly performing those tasks. He was notoriously a goof off as a governor.
Meanwhile, Putin is signing orders every day to execute more Ukrainians with high explosives, much noisier deaths, much more public, than Bush's and Texas' lethal injections into prisoners in front of a few witnesses.

Vladimir Putin Says Russia Has 'No Ill Intentions'
Putin made the comment on the state-controlled Rossiya 24 news channel on Friday in which he called on neighboring countries "to think about how to normalize relations."
"I want to emphasize once again. We have no ill intentions towards our neighbors, and I would advise them not to escalate the situation, nor to introduce any restrictions," he said.
"All our actions, if they arise, always arise exclusively in response to unfriendly actions against Russia," he added.
Putin brushed off the impact of sanctions imposed on his country. "We will just have to move some projects a little to the right, to acquire additional competencies," he said. "In the end, we will even benefit from this because we will acquire additional competencies."

Water isn't wet, the sky isn't blue, and Russia has no ill intentions, per Putin.
Another way to describe what Putin is doing in effect is holding someone’s head under water and telling them to stop struggling you’ll only make it worse. He is an animal, and so is signym.
She stuck with Putin as he was bombing hospitals in Syria and dropping barrel bombs out of helicopters on civilians in cities like Aleppo. He gassed them as well. Throughout all this signym covered for him by blaming the WEST for Putin's dirty deeds. Comrade Signym is a lower form of life. She should be reminded of that often.

Please dial down the emotion, compare facts and figures, and engage perspective.
Not forgiving any war crime that Putin might or might not commit. Not forgiving or forgetting OURS, either.

I am very familiar with the War Crimes that Signym listed, but I wouldn’t characterize them as OURS, as Signym is doing. Spreading the blame to everyone is vague, imprecise, and allows the real criminals to go free by blaming all Americans. If everyone is blamed, no one is held accountable. I know which politicians committed those crimes just like I know Putin has committed crimes. None of those crimes could be called OURS. Those are Their crimes, with famous politicians’ names attached.

There are books written about Trump cheating on his taxes, cheating his wives, cheating his contractors, cheating in business deals (he actually wrote that book). I see Trump voters doing exactly the same. None of that is applicable to Biden.
Oh, by the way, claiming you're honest when you are not, and claiming you are trustworthy when you are not, just makes me want to kick the shit out of you. That's why I don't like Putin and Trump voters and why don't vote for Republicans.

"Polish Russian Collaborator kiki, like Polish Russian Collaborator Signym and Jack=ass always practice a style of debate known as whataboutism.
Whataboutism is a technique or practice of responding to an accusation or difficult question by making a counteraccusation or raising a different issue. Also called whataboutery. To twist criticism back on the initial critic.
The association of whataboutism with the Soviet Union began during the Cold War. It is nothing more than a way to avoid as said, difficult questions. Remember this when posting because they do this to counteract the facts you just presented. They do it with almost all posts.
Further, they mostly use alternative facts. An alternative is one of the choices in a set of given options; typically, the options are opposites of each other. So, to talk about alternative facts is to talk about the opposite of reality (which is delusion), or the opposite of truth.
There you have it. Polish Russian Collaborators Signym, kiki and Jack=ass are delusional. It’s all quite simple. Next week I’ll discuss another of their tactics called, fallacy of relative privation. Stay tuned.

Humanitarian corridor agreements collapse as Russia continues shelling
A ceasefire agreement intended to created "humanitarian corridors" that would allow civilians to escape the embattled Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha fell apart as Russian forces continued shelling the cities, The Associated Press reported.
According to Reuters, Russia announced Saturday morning that military forces encircling Mariupol and Volnovakha would stop firing for five hours on Saturday afternoon so civilians could safely leave, but Ukrainian officials said the invaders never kept up their side of the bargain.
"The Russian side is not holding to the ceasefire and has continued firing on Mariupol," said Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office. Ukrainian and Russian negotiators had reached an initial agreement for a humanitarian corridor out of the encircled port city on Thursday.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said Russia continued firing on Volnovakha as well.
Shelling also continued in the vicinity of Kyiv. Radio Free Europe shared video shot in the Ukrainian city of Irpin — a 30-minute drive from the Kyiv city center — on Friday that showed Russian artillery fire striking a high-rise apartment building.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Russia has destroyed a bridge that separates Irpin from Kyiv, forcing civilians fleeing to the capital to "climb down and under the span and then navigate a precarious pathway, their suitcases and pets in their hands."

Like a mantra, state television talking heads are making references to World War II, invoking the spirit of a fight against Nazism for no other reason but to whitewash Putin’s latest land grab in progress.
Lawmakers and pundits essentially debunked Putin’s claim that he invaded Ukraine to remove what he said is a “Nazi” government—which is, incidentally, headed by a Jewish man. Instead of demystifying the Kremlin’s agenda for the masses, state media demonstrated that in Putin’s Russia, anyone who dares to oppose Putin is described as a “Nazi,” to the point where the term is devoid of its original meaning.
On Soloviev’s show, political scientist and professor of history Elena Ponomareva asserted: “We’re fighting not only against NATO, but also against the Nazi European Union.”
Two days earlier, on a state TV show 60 Minutes, journalist Andrei Sidorchik rode the concept all the way down the hill when he exclaimed: “Joe Biden is a Nazi. The U.S. congressmen?—Democrat and Republican?—are Nazis... German chancellor is a Nazi... EU leaders are Nazis... because their sanctions are attempting to preserve neo-Nazism in Ukraine.”

Joe Biden is a Nazi. So is Justin Trudeau. So is Macron. So was Merkel.
Your problem is that after 70 years of brainwashing people to think that Nazi means evil German dudes who like playing dress up and gassing humans and incinerating the bodies, you have no idea what it actually means.
My problem is, there's just to many stupid people on this planet to ever start making the right decisions.
We're never going to make it to space before we destroy the place. And it's because the stupid people keep breeding.
