what if FireFly lived?

What would happen if Fire Fly would have gotten past season 1. I have no doubt by then the fan base would have been enough to keep it on the air. Maybe it could have gone to like season 5 or 6. Hey common Star Gate is like at season 8 and that show.... well isn't very good. Thats just my opinion, I'll watch it if Star Gate is on. But Firefly had soo mcuh more... Like a story and good character we could love.

Most successful shows in the 22 episode a season format tend to peak around season 3 - season 4. After that I think you have a hard time keeping a cast together (opportunities open up elsewhere and raises might make it prohibitive to keep everyone) and alot of storylines close themselves off.

If you watch any British television on BBC America, etc, you'll find that most of their shows run 2 maybe 3 seasons and end on a feature length special (i.e. The Office)

If Firefly had survived, I would have wanted it to last 4 seasons max. If you've seen the way some Fox shows have ended ( X Files, 90210, etc) limping out the door, its kind of sad. Mind you, for the cast and creator, I got no problem with them cashing out as long as they can. A job is a job. But storywise, I think most shows can't do much after their fourth season.

Had the show not gotten the axe by Fox, I have no doubt it would still be on the air now. Given a chance to find a nitch and free of the mishandling of tv execs who have no idea of the depth of the show Firefly would have become a hit.

not if the show had been planned out ahead of time. a good plan, with a good end strategy, can keep up a shows good feel for as long as the creator/s want it to.

I do love stargate with a passion, but it has no end strategy. leaving it open for a pointless and anticlimatic ending. or worse, a cliffhanger ending.

The thing is, several shows have a long term plan but unfortunately, this rarely works well with a network because they can either a) cut you off before you have a chance to finish properly (The Tripods), b) threaten to cut you off before you have a chance to finish properly but then give you the final season you wanted after you have already used up your storylines (Babylon 5), c) cut you off and then give you only a mini series to tie things up or d) let you run the full course of your show's inventiveness and freshness then demand another season. Then another. Then another. (X Files, Buffy).

Whereas with Stargate, it doesn't really matter. It can carry on as long as they can come up with interesting individual plots.

I suspect that Joss had a definite plan for Firefly, reaching across multiple seasons (much like he did with Buffy and Angel).

I think he would've made major changes to the show around season 3 or 4, just like Buffy. Maybe he'd have spun off a character, or even made a prequel series (I'd LOVE to see what the war was like, and what Jayne was up to prior to our favorite show).

I think that, when the natural end came to pass, the cast would like significantly different than it does now.

No, it isn't ok. Firefly is one word. Under no cicumstance is it permissable to insert random capital letters into a single word. There is no reason at all to capitalise the secong f. Same thing with Stargate. It isn't Star Gate, it is, again, one word. Just because there are two root words at play, here, does not make it ok to break them up like that. Don't go fiddling with the laws of grammer just bacause it's science fiction, people.
