He thinks he gets to avoid lashback from environmentalists by pulling that move, huh? Good luck.

Everybody is going to see it for exactly what it is. Trying to save the dying Democrat party.

The way they plan to do it doesn't sound any different than passing social justice programs under reconciliation. (Which, BTW, Democrats have been passing bullshit under reconciliation at an alarming rate under this administration and nobody should be surprised when Republicans pass even more bullshit under reconciliation after Democrats did it).

Why don't you pack the Supreme Court too while you're at it. And then watch the Republicans do it right back to you.

Gas prices wouldn't have moved under Trump. Trump was a world leader. Biden* can't even keep control of his own cancerous party.

If Biden gave away the petroleum for nothing per barrel, it wouldn't lower gasoline prices because Biden doesn't have much to give away. The reserve currently holds about 606 million barrels. Compare that number to the United States consuming a total of about 6,660 million barrels of petroleum in 2020. This was the lowest level of annual consumption since 1995.

https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=33&t=6

World consumption of petroleum is 35,442 million barrels per year. The 606 million barrels that Biden has is insignificant compared to 35,442 million barrels. Until Biden controls enough oil to move the world price of petroleum, he won't be able to move gasoline prices in America.

I predicted consumer price inflation** from the moment that Biden* got into office and started handing out fistfuls of money to John and Jane Average.

The classic definition of inflation still holds:

Too much money chasing too few goods.

Unless we can increase production of all of the essentials that America needs - starting with energy, and energy-intensive products like fertilizer and food - inflation on consumer prices will continue to go up. Shale oil seems to have hit its geologic limit: it is expensive to produce, runs on tight margins, and most of the good wells have already been dug and are tapping out. Supposedly, gas from tight formations follows the same curve, since wells need to be constantly "stimulated" (more fracking, more $$$ pumped down the well) in order to keep producing.

When oil prices crashed last year, shale oil producers hedged their production - promising to sell at lower prices in the future- bc of fears that prices would go even LOWER. Now that prices are skrocketing, they can't take advantage of the boom. But the basic problem remains the same: it takes a lot more $$$ to produce from tight formations than from easier- to- access oil. Now, the USA is importing record amounts of oil from RUSSIA. It doesn't help that USA admins sanctioned oil from Venezuela (which has the largest known deposits in the WORLD.)

I posted about that too, several years ago: the energy boom in America was not going to last.

In order to restore our economy and control inflation, we need to have RELIABLE sources of energy, and also become more energy-efficient overall. We also need to re-home production of basic goods (food, steel, cement, textiles, durable goods, cars etc) because at some point exporters will be demanding more of our worth-less dollars, and no longer buying our debt (bonds).

** There has been inflation all along, but it's been in areas of speculative investments such as stocks, cryptos, real estate, and fine art, because money had been going to the already-wealthy. That drove housing costs out of sight for many Americans.. but they don't count housing and energy prices into the CPI anymore. (Gee, I wonder why?)

Is Biden President of the World? Because the World has inflation:

Inflation rate worldwide

Euro Area 4.1%
United Kingdom 4.2
India 4.48
Germany 4.5
Canada 4.7
South Africa 5
Spain 5.4
United States 6.2
Mexico 6.24
Russia 8.13
Brazil 10.67
Turkey 19.89
Argentina 52.1

https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate

Signym, how did Biden raise the inflation rate all over the World?

What mechanism did Biden use to raise the inflation rate in Russia to 8.13%?

I am really curious to read your answer, Signym.

Take note that Trump went into extreme deficit spending to get himself reelected: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=J9AW

Are you calling stupid the idea that Biden does NOT cause price increases in America because prices are also rising in places where Biden is NOT President?

Price rises aren't controlled by Presidents, but all the Trumptards I know in Texas are absolutely certain that the President controls prices, including control of the world price for petroleum. By the way, the world price and Texas price for petroleum are very close, with only small differences because of transportation and refining costs. Presidents have no control over crude prices and never will because crude can be shipped from anywhere to America. Coming from anywhere makes the price about the same everywhere in the world. https://www.thebalance.com/crude-oil-brent-versus-wti-808872
