Paul Krugman has a piece in the New York Times that offers an explanation for why Republicans oppose every measure—vaccination, masking, limits on indoor gathering—that could reverse the pandemic. He says it’s because the Democrats support them and that Biden would take credit for reduced caseloads, hospitalizations and deaths. Since owning the libs is the guiding philosophy of Republican politicians and their minions, such actions have to be fought at all costs.

Paul Krugman is wrong because pandemic denial is a feature of the far right worldwide. You can find it in England, France, Germany, Poland, Brazil and points between. Explanations based on US political dynamics are insufficient (although they might be correct in a more limited way).

Here is my candidate: The pandemic gives the lie to the rigid individualism that draws hard lines around each person’s body and mind—the “you are the king in your own castle” idea. It’s the bedrock of such notions as personal responsibility being the sole determinant of life events, unrestricted individual autonomy and the belief that collective action is an assault on “freedom”. Actually, we are interconnected in a myriad of ways, culturally, economically and, as the coronavirus demonstrates, physiologically. We are really a “we” whether we like it or not.

Far right politics is based on hard line individualism. So is a strand of alternative health, which promotes the notion that it is within the power of each person to “choose” to be free of disease by following one or another program. If the pandemic refutes these simplistic ideas, their response is denial.

Conservative politicians like to talk about morality. Over the years, they’ve portrayed various kinds of people as degenerate, dissolute, or reckless. But there’s one constituency these politicians won’t criticize: people who refuse vaccination against COVID-19. Vaccine refusers endanger their communities and the country, but they’re part of the Republican base. So instead of confronting them, Republican politicians are excusing the bad behavior, retreating to moral subjectivism, and trying to block anyone, including private organizations, from imposing any standard of personal responsibility.

Greg Abbott also went on the GOP’s favorite propaganda channel to accuse the Biden administration of “allowing (a) free pass into the United States of people with a high probability of COVID, and then spreading that COVID in our communities.”

Even outsiders are getting into the act—particularly those who may intend to run for president in 2024.

“I can tell you, whatever variants are around the world, they're coming across that southern border,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a press conference.

That’s the fear. It’s based on anxiety about the unknown, and the uncertainty human beings might feel toward others whose intentions are unclear.

Krugman is usually wrong, but there's not a pandemic. Pandemic denial isn't a crime, it's a recognition of reality. Holocaust denial, of this holocaust, is a feature of the far left worldwide. Holocaust denial has always been a feature of the far left. Holocausts are a feature of the far left worldwide. The Holocaust was a feature of the far left. The holocaust is what we're experiencing, only times 1000. I bring this up because you implemented the rhetorical comparison.

There is a rugged individualist on the right, but there's also christianity which is pretty collectivist. I think some element of collectivism is probably a good idea in defeating this beast, which is The Beast.

The Beast has just been killing people. Exterminating people in gas chambers. It's important to remember that on the one week of the most obvious direct genocide here, Cuomo didn't kill 30,000 New Yorkers by himself, he endorsed a policy, that DeBlasio used to kill 30,000 New Yorkers, that came from on high, from the Beast, and that was not an isolated incident, but pattern of a larger genocide. There was not a pandemic. The bioweapon fizzled. But there was a genocide. Now there's a biowar.

Since the cure for the non-existent plague will kill everyone, there will be no one left but those who oppose it. I think the left hasn't thought this through. They are defining the future world as extremely far right. We end up with Mad Max out of this. Or Firefly.

The left position, if taken in Firefly terms is exactly the Alliance right now, right down to the Pax.

Don't get your ego wrapped up in. Just see it before the line is drawn.

That can't be the right analogy because the Alliance used Pax covertly, unlike vaccinations which are widely publicized. The existence of Pax was kept a big secret from the people who were breathing it. The dead Alliance scientist, eaten by cannibals, Doctor Caron, did not intend to kill the people on planet Miranda, but intended to pacify them/tranquilize them/neutralize their testosterone. Instead, Pax put everyone, except Reavers, into a coma. Doctor Caron was certainly surprised, and killed, by what Pax did. The movie didn't bother to explain why a coma, other than Joss Whedon needed Pax to be a movie magic spell gone wrong right out of a Harry Potter movie. If Joss did not kill a whole planet with Pax just for the drama, he would not have had a reason to make a movie. (Science fiction movies overuse the theme of widespread death to motivate stories. Alien invasion is almost as frequently used and it, too, often ends with widespread death.)

Here's the steps, if you missed me talk about them before.


STEP 1: Give the vaccine to the 50 to 60% of people who are terrified of the virus and would do anything to get it.

STEP 2: Give the vaccine to the 15 to 20% of people who are just so f-ing tired of how we've been forced to live the last year that they just want it to go away and will get vaccinated so they can get back to their old lives.

(Steps one and two will have quite a bit of overlap, both in the timeframe and/or like-mindedness.)

STEP 3: Guilt the shit of the remaining people. Not all of them will be guilted into it. But some of them will.

STEP 4: Ruin the lives of people who still refuse. This can be done, and will be done, in a variety of ways. (This can only begin once there is a legitimate surplus of vaccinations without any remaining demand for them).

One of the biggest will be by allowing corporations to force vaccinations otherwise face termination from your job (the article from South Carolina I posted earlier today is actually about a bill being considered in the state to PROHIBIT companies in the state from doing this).

But then there's just the general guilting that will never end until the media stops talking about it. If you haven't been paying attention to the way these things work online the last few years, that guilting will quickly turn to HATE. This is going to make for a very hostile work environment for many people at this point. Imagine the RWED, but in a live office setting... in every workplace around the country. (and with weak-minded, terrified people truly believing that somebody like me is threatening their life by my mere presence in front of them without having had the shots).

If they really want to make the issue bad, they'll start instituting an ID card... maybe even provide you with a handy little lanyard to wear it like a dog collar whenever you leave your home.

Worst case is that when enough people have already gotten it and the rest refuse that the Legacy Media starts referring to those who resist vaccination as Bio Terrorists.

Admittedly, I didn't see handing out a bunch of freebies and doing Lotteries to try to entice people before moving on to Step 4 though.

But we are clearly in Step 3.5 ri
