I think that this forum is replete with necroposts now, and it creates the illusion that there are more people here than there are. I would like to talk to some of those people, but IDK where they went or if they will come back.

Maybe I'll see if there is anyone over in the fiction areas, and just leave it for a much slower pace. I mean, clearly this shows the failings of an unmoderated forum, and the focus on a TV show that was cancelled after 13 episodes.

I wouldn't change the site for anything though, I like this place, it's a more comfy place to talk than most. Haken even still around?

I have no problem with the ocassional necro post bumped on Obama or Bush or Syria or whatever

Haken is still around I'm guessing he's busy with other stuff, don't know much about the guy I didn't see much of him over the years. I know user 6IXStringJack and a guy ReaverFan got into a political, troll, spam war that probably got his attention, it got every heated, ReaverFan started going nuts and posting death threats and Haken finally stepped in and banned the guy...that's what I understand of it.
A few people have gone a bit nutty here, maybe its the virus lockdowns not helping with their mental health?

The past 5 or so years and more got especially stupid with Left vs Right politics, that may be a factor.

Yeah, it's just a ghost town. I know many people who left because of specific users, because I used to PM all the time, and people would tell me this. There are also a number of people from here I've been in touch with on other social media over the years, so I got other various reasons for the diaspora. I think that the laissez faire attitude of this forum is good, but maybe more moderating could have been done, not just to occasionally boot the bad actor, but also to keep the normal actors from getting too out of control.

I try not to get into it because I know it's a public forum and the entire planet can see all the stupid trolling stuff I write. But politics is kind of universally toxic.

Anyway, agreed, the occasional necropost makes sense because it's a topic that already has an open thread, but there's some excessive necroposting. I think it's probably loneliness. People want the old users back even if they used to disagree with them a lot.

I like the community, and I like the software. It's a nice site.

FWIW I think necroposting is kinda interesting. It does reveal how the website/opinions/the stories have changed over time. But you can always tell who the necroposters are since theirs are the posts with the most recent timestamps at the bottom of the thread.

As you may have noticed, the PM function no longer works.

I hadn't noticed. I stop doing it after that one. We had this argument then to. It's noticeable when you're talking to someone and a troll comes in and scares them off the site. I can't PM you that. so lol. It was a very memorable incident. and it went on, for a while.

anyway, necroposts, yeah, too much, active community support and growth would be better, but instead it's endless shrinkage.

Again, you are referring to an argument that I don't recall. In fact, I don't recall EVER arguing with you.

Also, you consider this an "argument". I consider this a simple difference in preferences. I personally like necroposting. It's like an archeological dig that reveals history. Your mileage may vary.

I don't think you and I ever had an argument of any serious tension level. Disagreed on occasion, sure. But I was referring to being an observer to arguments in the past

If an earlier you had a weakness, it was that merciless trolling of your opponents, to the point when they would breakdown

If an earlier me had a weakness, it was posting stories and taking positions based on sources whose credibility I had not thoroughly vetted

I mean, it's true, re necroposting, that the ghosts make the ghost town look less lonely

Yeah, I had noticed that you'd mellowed. I am in touch with some, but it's a tough sell. And of course it's not all your fault. This place was a culture of troll.

I haven't talking to ChrisIsAll, ByteMite, or Kwicko in some years. HK is kicking around somewhere, and CTS, IDK who would come back. I made this mistake of not friending Frem at the point when he appeared on my FB because I was having a fight with him at the time, but I have his email somewhere. I don't know who else I might have talked to off site, I mean other than Haken. I was apparently here in 2017, who knows who I talked to. I have Out2theBlack's email we corresponded for a while. I think even maybe WishIMay.

Some of the people on that list have a better contact list than me. I wouldn't be surprised if Haken has everyone's email still since we sign in with it, and if Chris hasn't friended all of us. HK also. I mean OttB is probably in touch with his parole officer at least

I think that crazy guy JohnLee Trucker Pirate News is still around the interwebs, on Minds or 4Chan or Gab or some place ... but he did go a bit more nutty than usual and people were sending him vague threats here once he started posting crazy conspiracy stuff about Hollywood and Epstein islands
