It should be noted that my farming results weren't without a VPN hit, so with no other information to go by I have to believe that Ted is telling the truth here. Also, if memory serves, I've never known where Ted lived to have anything to compare all of the results that I do have to. (And I don't think he's intelligent enough to even lie about this and know that his lie actually would work).

I didn't want to announce before that there was a VPN hit, because I didn't want everyone claiming from the beginning that they were the one that used a VPN.

And in the mean time, some behaviors have changed, at least one person seems to have left the site entirely, and not one single person has denied that I have their info until Ted's admission to using a VPN.

I'm going to have to file his claim under TRUE, despite the fact I have some hits that I don't know who they originated from yet. Ted's disappeared from time to time, just like we all do from time to time. I'm calling that a coincidence. And if it's not and he's lying, the info for the hits I can't attach to a person are still there if he ever goes all crazy-town and starts telling people to kill themselves in the future.

And besides, even though he and I argue all the time, Ted was never once an actual target of mine. He says a lot of childish and rediculous shit, but he's not a monster. He's the only one of the Lefties that remain on the site that have actually had the balls to speak out against his buddies when they've crossed the line. Not even JO can say that.

Your IP address can't be used to reveal your identity or specific location, nor can it be used to hack into or remotely take control of your computer. Nor should they. If you’re a regular person just trying to track something down on your own, that information is not available.

More details are available from the ISP, but typically only if you have a valid, legal reason. ISPs will turn over that information to law enforcement when the right requests are made and paperwork presented. In the U.S., that’s typically a court order. In that case, the ISP will provide the information to the police, not to you. In all of these cases, and other similar services, the information retrieved is about the owner of the IP address, not the current user of the IP address.

So, if Jack did somehow learn about an IP address holder the information would have had to have been gathered illegally. And that leaves Jack open to charges being filled. Want to keep your house Jack, don't fuck around. Your posts about this are a trail leading right back to you!

Still, it's best to use a VPN.

The only way I'm getting in any trouble for what I did is if I use that information to either doxx someone or used it to hack into somebody's network and harvest information or other illegal activity with it. Doxing is the act of publicly revealing previously private personal information about an individual. In order to do that you'd have to have hacked them. As I've said, illegal and would require a skill set beyond yours.

If you've latched onto a list of IP addresses that visited Firefly, you couldn't discern any information from that. Also, I'm guessing Haken might be interested in someone who was trying to destroy his site by threatening others with posting their IP address and or personal information.

I've never implied shit. I've been very clear of what my motives were. They aren't anonymous anymore and have been identified. This is second. I get far too much fresh air and sunshine. Well, THIS has turned into an interesting thread since I last visited!

FWIW, I had SLOPPY figured as a sociopath many years ago. I also tracked him to another website a few years back, which may be closed down by now, doing exactly what he does here. I wish I could remember his handle there ... Maybe it'll come to me. If not I'll have to look it up.

THUGGER would occasionally flash his real nature here, with coherent, grammatical sentences, and cold, tactical 'observations'. And btw, if he was so secure about the meaninglessness of the IP address, he wouldn't be using a VPN. Just saying.

I think WISHI's been trying to extricate herself from RWE for a while. And I haven't checked if she's posted elsewhere on this site, but if she's getting counseling, and I hope to god she is, they may have advised her to avoid situations that 'trigger' her ... so that she doesn't get tracked into homicidal/ genocidal/ 'extermination' thoughts.

Anyway, somebody brought up lawyers, so, to address how much protection you DON'T have being on an anonymous website ... here's the gist of the reply I got back from the lawyer after I described the libel going on and the situation in general (identifying information removed of course and some text altered):

So one should know the legal limits distinguishing threats from general ranting, encouragement to suicide from general vitriol, name-calling from libel, and getting an IP address from doxxing ... for example.

And if you don't know - or are purposefully trying to conflate one with the other, as THUGGER is doing, in order to provoke an untoward response - then you need to post carefully. Pretend you're having a bus-stop conversation, and keep it at that level.

No one I recall is saying anyone can't get hacked. No one is saying an IP address cannot be tracked back to someone. That someone who is registered to that IP. Both are illegal and that can also be tracked back to the IP holder. None of this by the way means they made any particular search or post themselves.

The SilverFish group chose not to pursue attacks against victims originating from countries including Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Uzbekistan, the report said. The hackers wrote comments “in Russian slang and vernacular,” while English was the other main language used. Source code also contained ID numbers and nicknames -- including “new hacker,” “cyberbro netsupport” and “walter,” for 14 people who likely worked under the supervision of four teams, the report says.

”What is perhaps the most striking from this report is the highly organized professionalism of the threat actor,” said Rik Ferguson, vice president of security research at the cybersecurity company Trend Micro Inc. and special adviser for Europol, the EU’s law enforcement agency, who reviewed the report. He said it was clear that the hackers were highly-skilled, well-funded and is operating with a clearly defined mission brief.
