Hard to hate on Henley.

I love the lyrics for End of the Innocence.

Still can't post the studio video. After all these years nothing can stop Don from keeping his music off of youtube.

I think what Henley lyrics really paints are intense scenes about places and moments. End of summer, the empty beaches and lakes. Empty fields, people captured by evil dreams. Lyrics not JUST about seduction, but I feel the protagonist in that song had a ather who went away to war ("fly") and died, and that he, too, will be going away to war soon, too, ending HIS innocence.

Plus, I like his voice. And the instrumentals don't overpower that.

Having all of two(!) lyrics to analyze, I think Henley (if he wrote his own lyrics) paints his pictures by contrast.

Can't let Kashmir and Dream On go by without a mention: I really like them, too.

Kashmir has that really interesting progression that almost sounds like something out of those old spy-show theme songs, but this song is totally not that.

Dream On has the same "sound", to me, as Henley (altho Boys of Summer has a faster tempo) and also America, but the Aerosmith lyrics are much more interesting than (say) A Horse with No Name.

So, BRENDA, I've sampled some of your picks. You seem to like "outlaw/outsider" songs?

I could never appreciate Elvis bc he became famous when I was young, and I know he was trying to look sexy but at that age "sexy" didn't mean much to me, all I could see was the sneer. Big turnoff. Funny, but I think Billy Idol was a lot the same, but more extreme.

What do you think of Johnny Cash? He's my favorite in the "outlaw/outsider" category.

As I said my mom liked Elvis since I was very small and I have seen the film "Flaming Star" which is the only Elvis movie I like as he doesn't sing in it. There aren't many Elvis songs that I "like" but that is one of them.

I like a few Canadian artists too like Roch Voisine. Colin James, Susan Aglukark, Kashtin. I'll see later if I can did any of them up.

Stumbled across Los Lonely Boys a number of years ago and like some of their stuff.

Johnny Cash another one I grew up listening too. Both my parents seemed to like him. I can take him or leave him.

The song I was trying to post is called "One Piece at a Time"

It's about a guy moving from Kentucky to Detroit.

One 2 Many was recorded the same stuio as ABBA. I'm not aware of any Petula Clark connection. I thought the entire album was original work - and I would play the entire album, on repeat, endlessly.
Come downtown, in the city theres a lot of fun...
vocalist Camilla Griehsel, before she married and became opera singer.

Alannah, Saraya (both albums), Madonna I loved the whole album, but those cuts were more popular.

Chris has more than 40 albums, 5 or 6 hits or compilations, and I love many of them. Little Long-haired Outlaw, Hooked On an 8-Second Ride, Born In Mississippi, Wild and Wooly.

I should have included Addagio For Strings by Samuel Barber.

I think also a title "Baja 1000" by Michael Nesmith. No lyrics.


eta: I personally own over 1,000 CDs (as of 1999), and quite a few 12" singles.
