It turns out there are severe limits to Constitutional freedoms. By Supreme Court thinking over the last 40 years or so, the Constitution grants these freedoms only in regard to the Federal (and maybe the States') government. In the face of corporations, your freedoms are theirs to take away. Oh, and corporations are people, too. And there's no guaranteed freedom in the Constitution from propaganda either.

Here's one example of how your free speech in your personal life can be punished by your school or employer:

This has been a long-tested scenario regarding corporate or private employers. A teacher may legally be fired from a Catholic school for posting about birth control (a perfectly legal option and topic) on their personal accounts, on their personal equipment, to their personal friends, on their own time ... because of a 'professional behavior' (or standard or conduct) clause in their contract. The question in the article above is if a state-run school has the same option to punish the free speech of a student as a private entity does.

It makes me wonder. If a private contract can override the Constitution, can I contract myself to a company as a genuine slave? Would that be Constitutional?

Anyway, free speech has severe limits irl.

So what about the 'free press'? It turns out there's no duty for the free press to report the news. It looks like it was always assumed that the government would try to hide the facts and that the press would always try to dig them out, and that the biggest threat to a free press was from the government. It didn't seem to come up that the press might work hand-in-hand with tptb to spin a complete fake reality for the masses.

And while laws were once passed forbidding a US agency from directly propagandizing US citizens (so the propaganda had to be filtered through VOA for example), that law has since been rescinded.

Finally, as we have seen, even prominent politicians exercising presumably free political speech can be silenced by private corporations.

So I think at this point, what you see, and what you DON'T see, through the US m$m is in service to a narrative - that doesn't generally have your best interests at heart.

What to do ... well, there's the internet. Until the government starts blocking access to chunks of it, going to a wide variety of sources from all around the globe - ESPECIALLY from non-western news agencies - is a good start. And I think we need to always be asking: why is this news NOW? what has disappeared from the news? who might benefit from this news? if this were the opposite of what I believe would I be likely to reject it instead of accept it? (a check for personal bias)

Rather than promoting censorship (as our so-called democrat*-supporting 'liberals' here are doing) we need to expand our nets to catch more news items and pov's in order to see beyond what we're being fed every day. And we (hint for some people here) have to stop focusing on what foreign governments are doing. We're not them. They're not us. We have no responsibility for them or duty to them. We can and should tend to our own dysfunctions.

Yup.

Eventually the cheerleaders of this behavior here will be bitching about free speech again. It's all cyclical. But most people are too stupid to realize it.
