Witness Rep. Steve Scalise (Louisiana) during an appearance on ABC's "This Week" hosted by Jon Karl:
Karl: But -- but, wait a minute, I mean, [Donald Trump] hasn't taken responsibility. You heard Kevin McCarthy say -- I mean, do you agree with what Kevin McCarthy said there, that the President must take responsibility, that the facts demand that he take responsibility for what happened on January 6?
Scalise: Well, first of all -- now, I wrote a Wall Street Journal editorial about where I think the responsibility lays for January 6. And surely, there's a lot of blame to go around.
But at the end of the day, the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6, it was a disgrace. And they need to be held accountable. And in fact, over 180 have already been arrested. And I know the FBI's working to root out every person who broke into the Capitol, who attacked police. There's no place for that.
Um, "surely there's a lot of blame to go around?"
Well, yes, there is. Trump, his enablers in Congress, conservative talk radio and TV, political professionals who seized on the stolen election lie to line their own pockets.....
But I don't think that's what Scalise means. In fact, he appears to be engaged in a "both-siderism" argument, the idea that bad people from all over the political spectrum were responsible for the damage done to the Capitol and the country on January 6.
In fact, as the interview wore on, Scalise went further down the "whataboutism" road.
"When you look at -- look, Donald Trump has denounced what happened, and I think everybody should have been unequivocal in their denouncing of what happened, not only on January 6 but during the summer, when they were burning down cities, shooting cops, beating people in the streets," he told Karl. "You -- you saw ... the left denouncing January 6, as we did. They didn't denounce what happened during the summer."
Worth noting here: While there was some violence at protests over racial in equity during the summer of 2020 it was a) not widespread and b) not an assault on the US Capitol while the vice president of the United States and members of Congress were inside it.
Also worth noting: Trump never denounced the violence on January 6. Quite the opposite.
"We love you. You're very special," Trump told rioters on that day.
Asked by Karl whether Joe Biden was the "legitimate" president, Scalise said this: "Look, Joe Biden's the president. There were a few states that did not follow their state laws. That's really the dispute that you've seen continue on."
Which isn't a simple "yes."
What Scalise's interview shows is that the internal politics of the House GOP conference -- and the party's broader base -- simply leave no room for anyone to cross Trump. Still. Regardless of whether Scalise believes what he says about the election and the January 6 riot, he feels compelled to say those things because he knows that if he doesn't toe the line, he can expect a leadership challenge, a censure from his state party and a likely primary challenge next year.
That fear of reprisal means that the GOP is still Donald Trump's party, and will be until its elected leaders start putting principle over political calculation.

There is a story that Clemenceau, the Prime Minister of France, was in conversation with some German representatives during the Paris peace negations in 1919 that led to the Treaty of Versailles. One of the Germans said something to the effect that in a hundred years time historians would wonder what had really been the cause of the Great War and who had been really responsible. Clemenceau, so the story goes, retorted that one thing was certain: ‘the historians will not say that Belgium invaded Germany’.
The anecdote repays some reflection. On the one hand, its main point seems clear: the brute fact that it was Germany that invaded Belgium and not the other way around cannot be wished away by later historians, whatever else they may say. Clemenceau, of course, is pointing to this as the evidence for the German responsibility for starting the war. On the other hand, the German representative also seems to be right: historians have been discussing the causes and the responsibility for World War One ever since 1914, and show no signs of concluding. The assessment of an event like that depends on interpretation and the sifting of evidence. It isn’t just a matter of pointing what happened on an August day in 1914. Yet some things remain stubbornly the case, we think: German troops violated Belgian neutrality in 1914.
In a hundred years time will historians wonder who won the US Presidential Election of 2020? Perhaps not, but the world we live in seems to be one in which the most ‘stubborn’ facts are in question. Much of the confusion can be wrought by bad faith actors, people who know they are lying when they claim certain things to be true. These bad faith actors aren’t just figures from the margins of the political spectrum, or among the deluded ‘QAnon’ conspiracy enthusiasts. In our time we have seen the US and UK governments, supported by the bulk of the established media outlets repeat falsehoods about the possession of WMDs in Iraq, to give just one example.

I've said it before, but I'd love to see Trump run under the Democrat ticket and primary Biden*.
Nobody cares about his fucking taxes except for you, Ted and Rachel Maddow.
The IRS knows what's in them.
I don't give two fucks about how a dude got rich before he was in politics. I care a lot more about how a politician got rich while in office.

Fake mail-in election was fake.
Abolish mail-in ballots, and remove the ability to file an absentee ballot for anybody who isn't in the military and serving outside of the country on Election Day.
Election Day, singular. Not Election Days. Not Election Week. Not Election Month.
Photo ID enforced voting. Provide every American Citizen who is on food stamps, energy assistance, or who has children on the free school lunch program with a driver's license (if they are legal to drive) or a State ID free of charge.
Until those happen, no election is valid and it's all a joke.

This CEO is being sued for $1.3 billion
In trouble because of his support for Trump, Lindell has repeatedly questioned the result of the 2020 election and this week Dominion Voting Systems has started legal action against the entrepreneur, suing Lindell for $1.3 billion in damages over his claims that the election was rigged.
