"I am gutted, seriously gutted, because one of my memories, my fondest memory [from Buffy] is the fact it was so empowering. Not just in the words in the script, but the family feel of the show."
So he's not saying it didn't happen, just that he didn't see it.
Sounds like he's shaken up a bit. 3 of his co-workers took sides against Joss, and it seems he wasn't aware ( or claim he wasn't ) of there being an issue.
I guess ' I dint see nuffin ' is the best Joss has for a 'defense' from others on his show.
* Speaking of those who didn't have issues with Joss, the Much ado about nothing folks, maybe Joss simply had a 'cool kids' group, a pecking order, that he preferred some over others. Seems Sarah was a bit of a diva, as has been mentioned here, I believe, and she didn't exactly get along with Charisma, yet here both are, taking sides against Joss. Might be something to that. I dunno.
** Would it be a safe bet that those who Joss favored, the 'cool kids ', might have been what he considered the more serious actors? Not just pretty faces for TV ?
Just a random thought.

This is sort of the impression I'm getting. That Joss was probably not too kind to people he felt weren't putting a serious effort into acting. That's total speculation because we don't have any details. The most detailed thing I've heard is James Marsters saying Joss backed him up against a wall one time and told him that he didn't care what the fans thought that Joss was still going to kill him off. Which is inappropriate for sure, but like does anyone think Joss could take James in a fight? Super unlikely. So, I doubt Joss was seriously threatening a physical altercation. It just sounds like Joss is very intense about his writing and his ideas for the show. He clearly doesn't like having to change his vision. Not in Buffy, not in Angel, not in Avengers. Those are always the times when he's the most visibly frustrated. Clearly he doesn't handle it well and that's not ok. It's something he should work on. But if that's all of it then I don't think he should be shunned from society.
Now there's this: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/michelle-trachtenberg-says-rule-bu
ffy-041530998.html
Again inappropriate with a teenage girl can range from criminal "lock him up and throw away the key" to yelling at someone who is too young to handle it. Again details are really important but no one seems to want to go into detail.

" The last. Comment I will make on this. Was. There a rule. Saying. He's not allowed in the room with Michelle again "
I don't know, Michelle, WAS there such a rule? Are you trying to say something by not actually coming out and stating it as a fact? You were 15 or what ever, didn't anyone TELL you there was a rule ?? To reassure you ?
And this word - again . This implies he was, at some time, and was now longer allowed to be alone with her.
What. Actually. Happened ??
She said " So now. People know. What Joss. Did. ". No, we really don't ! Was he mean, say bad things, or did he cross some very specific lines ?

It doesn't even remotely matter the reason, no one should be putting hands on anyone that works for a person in that manner, and even actors are allowed to NOT have to detail publicly things that made them feel humiliated. It's not like the details are suddenly more provable when spoken. There IS enough of a cohesive pattern to make it clear to people that aren't looking to make a justification that Joss was a dick... and possibly a criminal dick.
There are things that happened to me as a kid that I have never spoken about either. Which is MY LIFE AND MY RIGHT.
END OF.

I guess I'm just not willing to say someone should be exiled from society because they're just a dick. There are lots of dicks I work with every day. I would appreciate if they would be a little nicer, but I can learn to put up with them.
Now if someone is physically abusive that's a whole different story. That I would support keeping him out of the director's chair.
To me the details of what they're accusing him of are important.

I sense universal agreement here.

And it's in the details which may or may not come out that determines how Joss is ultimately viewed and judged.
This reminds me a bit like the Bobby Knight situation. Ass of a man, arrogant, insufferable and insulting, but there are those who absolutely adore him as a coach. They felt his demeanor and harsh attitude was a mark of greatness. Endure his wrath, do what he asks of his players, and you'll be a better man for it. The boot camp mentality of it all either breaks or bonds you.
Oversimplification ? Probably, but I've yet to see anyone come out in full on support for Joss. Anthony Head's " I didn't see nuthin " comments fall far short. But we'll see.

Joss's own lack of protest is EVERYTHING.
If entire groups of people were accusing me of something I didn't do, the world would know.
Fat headed douche to women, played nice with all the guys that didn't intimidate him. And I am pretty damn sure they knew what was going on, but ALSO played pretend so they could keep their jobs.
How much sucking up and playing pretend did Nathan and Alan do?? Not hearing anything from them, either.

Tagline says it all really.
"Casually cruel’ is a perfect way of describing Joss,” “Firefly” writer Jose Molina wrote in a tweet Friday evening, adding the #IStandWithCharisma hashtag. “He thought being mean was funny. Making female writers cry during a notes session was especially hysterical. He actually liked to boast about the time he made one writer cry twice in one meeting.”
Add Eliza to the list.

She goes on to say that failing to point out the “power/gender/sexual/racial abuse” in the entertainment industry only enables abuse and abusive systems, and thanks Carpenter for her courage. “It starts and will end because of courageous truth-tellers like you. I admire, respect, and love you,” Dushku concludes.
Carpenter posted a lengthy statement to Instagram on February 10, alleging that Whedon was frequently “mean and biting, disparaging about others openly, and often played favorites, pitting people against one another to compete and vie for his attention and approval” on the set of Buffy.
Sounds like Joss is a class A narcissist. Like I say, every atrocity in history has a narcissist leading the way. Epidemic of damage.

So Joss has a thing about making young females cry and feel subservient to him, huh?
Which makes perfect sense as to why he essentially called a group of young HS girls who survived cancer hookers , but not really hot ones, as a round about way to insult then President Trump.
Summer was on both Angel and Firefly. The next youngest woman was Jewel, who had been in the business for some time already. I wonder what their opinions are on all this, or if like Anthony Stewart Head, they also didn't see nuffin.
I'm guessing Joss never tried to intimidate Nathan or Adam.
Again, I guess we'll just have to wait a few days and see what else comes out.
