If Trump's call was actually illegal (ie not an impeachment, which doesn't rely on criminal charges), then it should be pretty obvious, because there will be an actual criminal statute on the books.

It also occurred to me that it may have been illegal to tape record the phone call without notice. Different states and DC have different laws. For example, in CA both parties must know a call, or live conversation, is being recorded, or the person doing the recording can be charged with a criminal violation. AND if it's part of a criminal case, the 'evidence' can be thrown out since it's a 'fruit of the poisoned tree'.
My opinion is that illegally collected evidence SHOULD be allowed, AND that the person who illegally collected it should be charged as well, but that's just me. It's not how things are done.
