There are so many scenes in Craig Mazin's brilliant HBO miniseries "Chernobyl" that remind me of what's happened here and now, in the United States, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. All of you know that I think people should mask up. But even I don't mask up when I'm walking the dog - by myself- outdoors.
I have on a "procedure" mask, but basically on my chin, for when I see or hear people approaching me, and if they get within about 20 ft I put it up over my nose. I don't wear it when I'm gardening in the front yard, unless I happen to be working near the curb.
Fortunately for me, we happened to have had N95s on-hand (for household projects) and I save those for indoor exposure where maintaining a distance of 6 ft is impossible at times, like grocery shopping.
That is REASONABLE masking. Expecting Trump to wear a mask when he is outdoors and at a significant distance from others is just ... unreasonable. I fault Trump for just about everything about Covid-19, but taking his mask off in the Rose Garden isn't one of them.
What I see is person who is incredibly stubborn and, like many people with ADHD, oppositional. The same stubbornness that stood him in good stead through the YEARS of false accusations, illegal surveillance, entrapment, and relentless criticism is betraying him now with Covid, because he hasn't distinguished between human-sourced difficulty (which you can power your way thru, with enough grit and resources) and nature-sourced illness, which doesn't care what you believe or how willful you are . It is a serious misunderstanding of the world. Fortunately, WE know better and WE can protect ourselves.
And despite Trump's serious mishandling of a lot of things, especially Covid-19, he's still better than Joe Biden. Trump is a well-meaning, if at times bumbling, nationalist. Joe Biden (and those who back him) are malicious traitors who do NOT have this nation's best interests at heart.

And, at least for a few days, Trump managed to (for the first time since he was elected) get the reasonable people in the Legacy Media and in the Democratic party to stop attacking him (and actually go out of their way to wish him well), which really put on full display the huge dichotomy of the Democrat party when you look at the far left on Twitter wishing that he dies at the same time.
And looking at national polls isn't what anybody should ever be looking at. The only important number right now is the Top Battleground aggregate. And unless they've stopped oversampling Democrats like they did in 2016, there really should be no reason to believe they're any more accurate in 2020 than they were 4 years ago.
That being said, Trump is still faring 0.2 points better against Biden on October 7th than he was against Clinton in 2016.

In early September, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a moratorium on evictions through the end of 2020, citing a potential increase in the spread of the coronavirus if people lose their places of residence. But five weeks later, after multiple court cases and aggressive lobbying by the real estate industry, the moratorium has lost its teeth.
On Oct. 9, the CDC issued a new document of frequently asked questions about its moratorium that allows landlords to begin eviction proceedings now as long as the actual eviction takes place after Dec. 31. It also states that landlords are not required to inform tenants of the moratorium.
A major force behind this change is a legal nonprofit that is heavily funded by the foundation of billionaire industrialist and Republican megadonor Charles Koch.
The New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA)—a group with a mission to fight the “unconstitutional administrative state”—went to court on Sep. 8 representing Virginia landlord Rick Brown, arguing that the CDC did not have the legal authority to prevent Brown from evicting clients who can’t pay rent and replacing them with those who can afford market-rate rents. The National Apartment Association, a major lobbying group for landlords, joined the suit as a plaintiff two weeks later.
Koch is NCLA’s biggest known donor, having given $2 million to the group via the Charles Koch Foundation from 2017, the year when the group was founded, to 2018. Tax records for 2019 are not yet available to the public.
The CDC’s eviction moratorium update “is symptomatic of a system that has always and continues to work to benefit the profiteers,” Tara Raghuveer, a tenants’ rights activist who leads KC Tenants and the People’s Action Institute’s Homes Guarantee campaign, told CMD. “It’s naked self-interest…. Every single eviction that we allow right now, we are putting someone’s profits over another person’s life, and it’s disgusting.”
“It’s because of corporate America, the stranglehold that they have over our democracy and our economy that coronavirus is the deep and pernicious threat that it remains in America,” continued Raghuveer. “We are consistently prioritizing private industry over public health and science and people’s lives, and it shows.”
