Fuzzy intelligence reports that are nothing more than rumors don't make it to the President's ear. I'm sure there are dozens, if not HUNDREDS of rumors about geopolitics swirling around right now, about anything from "What caused the three explosions at Iran's nuclear processing facility" to "What Merkel eating for breakfast signifies about her resistance to US sanctions against Russia".

Jeezus, SECOND, is your brain on backwards? Even "reports" by estimable organizations that have been presented and accepted as tried and true have turned out to be false.
Assad did not "gas his own people", and the OPCW has been denounced by its own investigators, with high officials rewriting their own investigators' reports to the point where the investigators blew the whistle on them.

Sorry, it is facts, but if you and Trump want to pretend the Russian bounty for killing Americans is a rumor, a "hoax" created by the news (in Trump's colorful phrasing) then there is no leaker. The leaker never existed because the story is a "hoax" created out of thin air by the news. But Trump is seeking to punish a real leaker working in the White House connected to real facts released against Trump's wishes to the news.

Trump's mistake was to look for a leaker. Trump should have kept to his "hoax" explanation and never looked for the leaker. Trump should have said that the leaker was created by the newswriters in order to hide that the entire story is imaginary, is a "hoax", is fake.

To bring up specific example, that was certainly true of - say - the so called Steele 'dossier' which was a fabrication created by a consortium of democratic party/ Five Eyes/ and private hoaxers. And that hoax was then willingly, and probably knowingly, propagated by the M$M. Or to go back even further in time, there was the Chalabi-created 'centrifuges buried under a rosebush' hoax actively flogged by the M$M's NYTimes Judith Miller.
That hoaxer-to-M$M process undeniably has already happened in the past, and it's possible it's happening today.

Quote:We need a fictional example of the silly game Trump is playing. Trump gives a public statement A: "The story by the Washington Post about an extraterrestrial in Area 51 is a hoax." Then Trump makes a private statement B to his staff: "Find the extraterrestrial, disguised as a worker, hiding in Area 51. I will make an example of the Alien." Statements A and B are not compatible. Trump is playing a very simple game. These following statements are not compatible, either. Trump's very loud and public statement A: "Russia did not pay bounties for dead Americans. It is a hoax by the Washington Post." Trump's quiet private statement B: "Find the leaker in the White House for the story about Russia paying bounties for dead Americans. I will make an example of the leaker." Trump is playing silly games. He is not playing to protect America. He has other motives he is not talking about.

Just to elucidate further;
EVEN TAKING THE NYT ARTICLE AT FACE VALUE- and there's no reason to think that we should- all we have is that someone (NYT) said that someone (anonymous) said that someones (chain of command, interagency communication) said that someone (interrogator) said that someone (prisoner) said.
But there is some evidence that Shifty Schiff himself is the source for the "leak", and we all know how honest HE is.

The top US general overseeing operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan said Tuesday that the intelligence concerning Russian operatives offering bounties to Taliban-linked militants was "very worrisome" but that the information wasn't solid enough to hold up in a court of law.
"The intelligence wasn't proved to me. It was proved enough to worry me. It wasn't proved enough that I'd take it to a court of law. That's often true in battlefield intelligence," Gen. Frank McKenzie, the commander of US Central Command, told a small group of reporters while traveling to the region, according to a transcript provided by the Defense Department.
His comments mark the first time a Pentagon official has answered questions about the US intelligence that assessed there was an effort by a Russian military intelligence unit to pay the Taliban to kill US soldiers.
Russian intelligence officers for the GRU, a military intelligence unit, offered money to Taliban militants in Afghanistan as a reward if they killed US or British troops there, a European intelligence official told CNN last month.
The official was unclear as to the precise Russian motivation, but said the incentives had, in their assessment, led to coalition casualties. The official did not specify the date of the casualties, their number or nationality, or whether these were fatalities or injuries.
McKenzie said Tuesday, "I'm very familiar with this material, and I'm a theater commander and I've had an opportunity to look at it. I found it very worrisome."
McKenzie cautioned Tuesday that the US "should always remember, the Russians are not our friends. They are not our friends. And they are not our friends in Afghanistan. And they do not wish us well. And we just need to remember that at all times when we evaluate that intelligence." (Signym, I doubt Trump will ever say "Russians are not our friends." Trump certainly won't say it three times in a row for extra emphasis, as the General did.)

"WORRISOME" but "would not hold up in a court of law".
So, where does that place the allegation? Is it reliable enough to change anyone's plans? Is it actionable? Is it something to keep in the back of your mind? Something to forget?
The Russians are NOT our friends. But since when is that new knowledge? The Taliban have been trying to kill Americans for almost two decades. Does this questionable report mean that our soldiers have to be MORE careful?
The idea that Russia would be paying a "bounty" to low-level Taliban to kill low-levle grunts is ludicrous because it changes nothing.

Gnl McKenzie is saying what others are saying: There are reports. Where they land on the spectrum of actually being true is somewhere in the fuzzy middle. CIA says medium confidence, NSA demures.
You may recall that it was widely blared that seventeen intelligence agencies stood shoulder to shoulder and they all declared that Russia hacked the DNC servers. But then, just as now, the NSA was actually the holdout and placed LOW CONFIDENCE on the "report". They balked because they never captured an single packet of the supposedly hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of packets on their way to foreign soil (something the NSA monitors very carefully) for the info to have been "hacked" from abroad, as opposed to having been transferred to a thumb drive by a person with physical access to the DNC PCs.
Aside from the fact that the file metadata shows every indication of having been transferred to a thumb drive, even Crowdstrike privately admitted there was no indication that Fancy Bear or any other Russian malware accessed the DNC servers, so in the end the NSA proved to be right.
So, let's get into the weeds of who has what info, besides "somebody said that somebody said".
Let's start with the relevant portion of the title from a mainstream publication
Quote:
Intelligence Agencies Don’t Agree Whether Russia Paid the Taliban to Target U.S. Soldiers.
U.S. and allied military and intelligence officials in Afghanistan collected information indicating that Russian intelligence officers maintained a fund for rewarding Afghan militants who killed American and Afghans soldiers, but senior officials are divided on how much credence to give the raw intelligence.
CIA and Special Operations Command officers in Afghanistan (SOCOM) concluded based on information from human sources that the Russians were, as one official who spoke on condition of anonymity put it, “incentivizing” Taliban fighters to kill Americans and Afghans to retaliate against America for Russia’s defeat in 1989 and disrupt the U.S.-sponsored peace negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government. The National Security Agency, however, expressed less confidence than the CIA or SOCOM because there was no convincing evidence of that in intercepted Taliban and Russian communications.
...There is no consensus within the intelligence community on these allegations, and, in effect, there are dissenting opinions from some in the intelligence community with regards to the veracity of what’s being reported. And the veracity of the underlying allegations continue to be evaluated,” McEnany said. “Intelligence is verified before it reaches the President of the United States. And in this case, it was not verified.”

I said that Russia did NOT "invade" Ukraine, that what was happening was proxy/hybrid warfare. I said that the people of Crimea voted overwhelmingly to join Russia. I said that Assad did not "gas his own people". I said that Obama oversaw the exacerbation of the wealth gap that was worse than GWB's. I said that The Fed was driving much of the wealth gap. All of this, if controversial at the time, has proven to be true.

Oh, BTW SECONDRATE, I did a little diging to find the ACTUAL TRANSCRIPT of General McKenzie's interview, and AS USUAL, you misrepresented what he said.
What he ACTUALLY SAID was this
Quote:
I'm very familiar with this material and I'm a theater commander and I've had an opportunity to look at it. I found it very worrisome. I just didn't find that there was a causative link there. It worried me, and we take extreme force protection measures all the time in Afghanistan. Because whether the Russians are paying the Taliban or not, over the past several years, the Taliban have done their level best to carry out operations against us. So nothing has practically changed on the ground in terms of force protection, because we have a very high force protection standard now. And that force protection standard is going to continue in the future. General Miller and I talk frequently about emerging threats. We discuss it and we are all the time evaluating intelligence, re-positioning forces to achieve the best possible posture, nothing has changed in that regard. We are still prepared for the absolute worst anyone could do to us in Afghanistan.
Missy Ryan Hi, General. Nice to talk to you. I wanted to clarify and follow up on your answer about Afghanistan. You're saying that you found it troubling, but you didn't find a causative link. Can you just specify what exactly are you talking about? A causative link in terms of the bounties resulting in American deaths, or causative link in the money that was detected being bounties or resulting in attacks? Can you just clarify that? And then I have a question about Iraq.
General McKenzie Sure the intelligence case wasn't proved to me. It was proved enough to worry me. It wasn't proved enough that I'd take it to a court of law. That's often true in battlefield intelligence. You see a lot of indicators. Many of them are troubling, many of them you act on. But in this case, there just wasn't enough there. I sent the intelligence guys back to continue to dig on it. And I believe they're continuing to dig right now. But I just didn't see enough there to tell me that the circuit was closed in that regard.
Missy Ryan So you weren't convinced that the money that was detected resulted in American deaths?
General McKenzie No, I'm not convinced of that. I'm just not. And basically, nobody is more directly concerned about it than myself and Scott Miller. We look at that all the time. But I'm telling you we just we just didn't see it.

Since you can’t count to three without help, Signym, you won’t understand what Esper is saying in this article, which is: “I don’t want to be fired, but Trump is a lying sack of shit. If I say it any more obviously I will be fired”:
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper confirmed Thursday that he had been briefed on information regarding Russian payments to the Taliban, seemingly acknowledging that Russia's support for the militant group in Afghanistan is not a "hoax," as President Donald Trump has claimed.

I expect Signym to go through this article line by line and pretend to completely misunderstand it, exactly what a Russian troll would do.

WHAT GENERAL MCKENZIE ACTUALLY SAID (TRANSCRIPT FROM CENTCOM) WITH HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE READING-CHALLENGED. BECAUSE CENTCOM APPARENTLY KEEPS TRACK OF SUCH THINGS.
Quote:
Capt. Urban General McKenzie, we've got 30 minutes on the record. He's going to start with some opening remarks covering a visit to Iraq today and then it’s over to you for questions.
General McKenzie Good. Good afternoon, everybody. It's been a long day for us. Planes, trains, automobiles, as you would expect. What I thought I'd do is just give you a couple of observations at the very beginning. Then we'll go right into your questions. I went into Iraq today. I had an opportunity to have a good meeting with the prime minister. And he was accompanied by the CHOD [Chief of Defense]. So we had a very good meeting with both of them. The principle thing we covered in our meeting was the importance of the next phase of the strategic dialog between our two countries which is going to occur in late July in DC, coronavirus pending. And I know there are a lot of issues associated with that, but we hope it's going to be a physical face-to-face thing. We'll see how that plays out.
But a key thing that we talked about was, what's the future posture for the U.S.? And we established a good back and forth that whatever the future posture is for us in Iraq and for our NATO and coalition partners as well, it's going to be in collaboration with the government of Iraq.
We all agree that's the case, and we all agree we're going to be focused on finishing the final victory again. So the final final conclusion of the campaign against Daesh, they're no longer holding ground.
We just need to finish the insurgency. I can talk about that a little bit, if you'd like to do that. But the key point was whatever we do going forward is going to be fully coordinated with the government of Iraq.
It is my belief that the government of Iraq recognizes the value that we bring for them in their fight against Daesh. They’re going to want us to stay. My final point is, I congratulate the prime minister on action taken to help protect our forces; we very much appreciate that. It was a good, good meeting. Good dialog, and was my first opportunity to meet him. I found him to be very impressive. And I think he's going to be a good leader for Iraq. So I will pause there and be ready to take your questions.
Lolita Baldor OK, just one quick follow up on what you were just talking about. And then a separate question. There, obviously, was talk a month ago about Iraqis wanting all U.S. troops out of the country. Do you think your assumption is that you moved on beyond that, and that there is room for keeping enough U.S. troops there, as many of you deem necessary? And then, so you can take both at once, I just wanted to ask an Afghanistan question, obviously, on the bounty issue. Can you talk at all about what impact you've seen in Afghanistan of loss in influence and/or payments to the Taliban and whether or not you believe there was any measurable impact in either deaths or injuries to U.S. forces?
General McKenzie Sure. I'll start with the Iraq question. So I believe the government of Iraq recognizes the extreme value that the coalition brings to the fight against Daesh in Iraq. And I believe that going forward, they're going to want us to be with them. Now, look, our posture could get smaller as the Iraqis get better at what they do. But I think that's a matter that's going to be negotiated further in the future of Iraq.
What you want to do in a counterinsurgency environment is you want the nation that you're working with to get better and take on a larger and larger share of the task. That's actually what's happening with the Iraqis. This is the desirable end outcome that we want. So we're actually very pleased with that. Going forward, I don't know what the long term future is going to be, but I don't sense there's a there's a mood right now for us to depart precipNOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME

There is no evidence convincing enough for Trump to change his mind about Covid-19. I therefore doubt Trump will change his mind about Russian bounties, especially if Putin issues denials. If Trump won't change, none of his Generals can do a damn thing to get Russia to stop. And why would a General sacrifice himself to force Trump to change his mind about Russia? It is Trump's job.

For the 1/100th time, the reason we show so many Cases, compared to other countries that haven’t done nearly as well as we have, is that our TESTING is much bigger and better. We have tested 40,000,000 people. If we did 20,000,000 instead, Cases would be half, etc. NOT REPORTED!

And focusing on cases is kinda silly, for either Trump, or for you. Either ERs and ICUs are out of room, or they're not. Either extra people are dying, or they're not. And no amount of blathering about 'cases' will change that reality.
So instead of blathering about 'cases', how about looking at facts?

Ditto with the so-called Russian bounty. The media presented it as FACT, and then went on to further claim that Trump had been briefed about it. Their reporting was a hoax on the American people.

Here is what PETER STRZOK had to say about the NYT's published "news" about the so-called RUSSIA!RUSSIA! hysteria early on in the Trump administration, just months after Trump took office, when the NYT was publishing articles about all of the "contacts" between the various members of the Trump team and Russia:
Remember, this is ANTI-TRUMP PETER STRZOK OF THE FBI, WHO WAS ACTIVELY WOKRING TO DEPOSE TRUMP FROM OFFICE WITH FAKE CHARGES OF COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA, AND THESE ARE HIS NOTES FROM THAT TIME
Quote:
STRZOK
"This [NYT] statement is misleading and inaccurate as written. We have not seen evidence of any individuals in contact with Russians (both Governmental and non-Governmental"
"There is no known intel affiliation, and little if any [Government of Russia] affiliation[.] FBI investigation has shown past contact between [Trump campaign volunteer Carter] Page and the SVR [Service of the Russian Federation], but not during his association with the Trump campaign."
"We are unaware of any calls with any Russian government official in which Manafort was a party."
"We do not yet have detailed [Trump campaign] banking records."
"Again, we are unaware of ANY Trump advisers engaging in conversations with Russian intel officials" and "Our coverage has not revealed contact between Russian intelligence officers and the Trump team."
Claim in NYT article: "The F.B.I. asked the N.S.A. to collect as much information as possible about the Russian operatives on the phone calls..."
Note by Strzok: "If they [NSA] did ["collect as much information as possible about Russian operatives on the phone calls"] we are not aware of those communications."
"We have not investigated Roger Stone."
"Recent interviews and investigation, however, reveal Steele may not be in a position to judge the reliability of subsource network."
"This is inaccurate... our investigation of Manafort was opened in August 2016."
Note by Strzok: "This is inaccurate..."
In other words, Peter Strzok was aware, as was the rest of his chain of command, that not only was the NYT punlishing numerous falsehoods about Trump, but that the "source" of much of this information - Steele- had no contacts in Russia and was therefore unreliable.
However, bc the FBI COC ... Strzok, Comey, et al, were also colluding to drive Trump from office, none of them stepped forward to correct the reporting, and were in fact colluding with the press.
I know it's a difficult mindset to change, but instead of assuming that the M$M is telling the truth until they've been proven to be lying, you're MUCH safer assuming that they're lying - or at least spinning like crazy- until demonstrated otherwise. If you do that, you won't be fooled so often into believing nonsense.
You CAN, for example, apply a few basic questions to any reporting, from any source:
Qui bono? Who benefits? Somebody benefits and somebody loses from every story. and...
Why now? Out of the thousands of stories that could be run on any particular day, some are bannered and others are banished. These are conscious choices made by editors, with a purpose in mind.
Here, for example, is a good explanation why the lamestream media is not reporting on this information but is instead redirecting people's attention to identitu politics and symbolic victories over statues which change absolutely nothing

There's at least a hundred names that we know of that would be screwed if the real Epstein story got out. There's probably a thousand names we never even heard of that are more powerful than Trump or Clinton.
The difference is, you're not joking when you blame it on Trump. I'm joking when I blame it on Clinton. I said back when Epstein was killed that I was joking when I said it was the Clintons.
I'm sure they would have done it if they felt the need to, but they don't need to. Trump doesn't need to. That shit was done quietly and the decisions were made in some dark hidden room by some shadowy figures that we'll never know their identities.

As G, sig continues to blame the main stream media for all the misinformation out there. When in fact, they've been incredibly good. Everyone out there who bucks what they have been reporting is either a troll, an ideologue who doesn't care about the truth, only their chosen side coming out on top, or stupid beyond belief.
Let’s not forget, as demonstrated by her last post here. Sig likes to post confusing posts. Posts of stockpiled untruths about events in the form of rants. The amount of reporting she and others here have dismissed as being fake, is the evidence of their intentions. They are the rotten eggs of this firefly site.

NEWS: Trump Just Fulfilled His Billionaire Pal’s Dream
A Labor Department letter could help Trump’s private equity donors fleece 100 million workers. The letter follows a $3 million super PAC donation from a Wall Street titan pushing for the change.
https://sirota.substack.com/p/news-trump-just-fulfilled-his-billionair
e
As news cycles were consumed by Trump deliberately inflaming social unrest and threatening a domestic military invasion, the president’s political appointees were approving a regulatory change that could transfer hundreds of billions of dollars of Americans’ retirement savings to private equity firms. Those are the Gordon Gekko-run outlets that have become famous for fleecing investors, laying off workers, gutting local economies, strip-mining media outlets and creating public health and environmental disasters -- all while minting Wall Street billionaires.
The Trump administration’s new directive came just a few months after private equity billionaire Steve Schwarzman -- who had been pushing for the change -- poured $3 million into a super PAC backing Trump’s reelection bid.
“A Windfall of $435 Billion”
To the casual onlooker, the information letter from the Employee Benefits Security Administration reads like every other impenetrable passage of stereo instructions that fills the Federal Register -- but this was no routine piece of paperwork. The guidance to Switzerland-based investment firm Partners Group effectively changed the enforcement of federal law protecting workers’ retirement savings.
While longstanding worker-protection regulations have prevented 401k plans from investing in high-risk private equity firms, the letter now permits corporations to funnel that money to those firms, which charge notoriously giant fees.
Trump’s administration argued that workers should feel fortunate and thankful that the administration will now let employers turn their savings over to private equity barons.

Have they told you anything true in 2020?
No. No they haven't.
Remember when they told us all that Epstein flung himself off his 4 1/2 foot tall 2nd bunk like an Olympic Gymnast and broke his neck? He even managed to do it with a 300lb ex-cop brute sharing the cell with him and the people who were making sure he didn't kill himself not even being aware that it happened. Without anyone being the wiser he also managed to use his X-Men telepathic powers to blank out all the video cameras so nobody could see him do it.
Pretty impressive for a 65 year old dude that spent most of his life banging 10 year olds.

OH, LOOK! SOMETHING ELSE THAT RUSSIA DIDN'T DO!
Quote:What were those "six lines"? It's not like a 300-page report; for the sake of completeness it should be quoted in the article.
UK Government Failed to Find Whether Russia Meddled in Brexit Vote: Report
Britain's government failed to find out whether Russia meddled in the 2016 referendum on membership of the EU, a parliamentary report released on Tuesday said, saying the intelligence services should investigate and make their findings public.
The long-anticipated report by parliament's intelligence and security committee found that Russia had tried to influence a separate referendum in 2014 when voters in Scotland rejected independence.
But it said the committee was unable to determine whether Russia had attempted to influence the European Union referendum, which led to Britain's exit from the bloc this year.
When asked for evidence on suspected Russian meddling in the vote, Britain's main domestic intelligence agency MI5 produced just six lines of text, the committee said.
Quote:But no evidence for election meddling. Why not ask Christopher Steele? I'm sure HE would cook something up to fill the bill!
... The government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who came to power as one of the leading figures in the victorious campaign to leave the EU, rejected the call for a further review. A spokesman for Johnson said the prime minister was confident the referendum result to leave the EU was fair.
The report cast Russia as a hostile power which posed a significant threat to Britain and the West across a range of fronts, from espionage and cyber to election meddling and laundering dirty money."It appears that Russia considers the UK one of its top Western intelligence targets," the report said.
It said there were open source indications that Russia had sought to influence the Brexit campaign. But hard evidence had not been produced.
Quote:Well, those are Russian oligarchs fleeing Russian law. It's not Putin's fault that the City of London banks welcome dirty money.
"The key point is ... they had not sought even to ask that question and that is at the heart of this report," Stewart Hosie, a Scottish National Party member of the committee, told reporters.
British foreign minister Dominic Raab rejected claims that the government had avoided investigating Russia.
"We have a long period recognising the enduring and significant threat posed by Russia," he said. "We are not for a second complacent."
Russia has repeatedly denied meddling in the West, casting the United States and Britain as gripped by anti-Russian hysteria.
"Russia has never interfered in the electoral processes of any country in the world - not the United States, not Britain, nor any other countries," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova cast the report as "Russophobia in a fake frame".
RUSSIAN MEDDLING AND MONEY
Relations between London and Moscow plunged to post-Cold War lows after Britain blamed Russia for poisoning former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with a nerve agent in the English city of Salisbury.
Last week, the British government said it believed Russian actors had tried to meddle in last year's general election, which was held after the report published on Tuesday was finished.
When discussing the EU referendum, the report is heavily redacted and there was a classified annex that was not published.
The committee also cast Russia as a source of corrupt money that had been welcomed in London, the world's premier international financial capital.

More than half of nation-state cyber attacks in the last year have originated from Russia, Microsoft has revealed in a new report.
According to the firm's annual Digital Defense Report, 52 per cent of state-sponsored hacking attempts from July 2019 and June 2020 were Russian in origin.
Exactly a quarter during this time period came from Iran, 12 per cent from China and the remaining 11 per cent from North Korea and other countries.

Stoking Conflict by Keystroke
New Facebook takedowns expose networks of Russian-linked assets targeting Libya, Sudan, Syria, and the Central African Republic.
https://cyber.fsi.stanford.edu/io/news/africa-takedown-december-2020
Today Facebook announced the takedown of three separate networks that targeted communities across Africa. Facebook shared the assets with the Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO) and Graphika before they were suspended. SIO collaborated with colleagues at Graphika on two reports analyzing these networks, both of which we published today.
The first network consisted of 126 Pages, 16 Groups, 211 profiles, and 17 Instagram accounts affiliated with individuals with links to the past activity of the Internet Research Agency (IRA), an entity linked to Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to Facebook, the network involved operators in Russia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, and Syria and targeted individuals in Libya, Sudan, and Syria. The operation also had a Twitter presence of approximately 30 accounts actively participating in the information operation. These accounts had several thousand followers — at least one had almost 12,000 followers — but the Twitter presence was much smaller than that on Facebook.

Narratively, these Pages and linked sites discussed Sudan’s economic crisis and positively framed a Russian-Sudanese deal for a Russian naval base in Sudan, and positively framed ongoing Russian activities in Sudan’s mining sector.
Syria:

Russia hasn’t just hacked our computer systems. It’s hacked our minds. The Recent Hack Is Putin's Goodbye to Trump - and warning. Russia will remain like a virus inside the DNA of America for a long long time.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/russia-hasnt-just-hacked-our-c
omputer-systems-its-hacked-our-minds/2020/12/17/7ddd72a8-40a7-11eb-8bc0-ae155bee4aff_story.html
The more we learn about the recent hack into dozens of America’s most critical computer networks — widely attributed to Russia — the more it becomes clear that it is massive, unprecedented and crippling. Tom Bossert, who served as homeland security adviser to President Trump, writes, “It will take years to know for certain which networks the Russians control and which ones they just occupy.” (We do know they successfully penetrated the Department of Homeland Security’s systems as well as those of Treasury, Commerce and others.) Stanford’s Alex Stamos describes it as “one of the most important hacking campaigns in history.” The New York Times’ David E. Sanger, who has written several books on cyberweapons, co-wrote an article calling the breach “among the greatest intelligence failures of modern times.”
Vladimir Putin’s Russia has significantly expanded its hybrid warfare, using new methods to spread chaos among its adversaries. The United States will have to fortify its digital infrastructure and respond more robustly to the Kremlin’s mounting cyberattacks. But what about the perhaps more insidious Russian efforts at disinformation, which have helped to reshape the information environment worldwide?
In 2016, two scholars at Rand Corp. wrote a paper describing Russia’s “firehose of falsehood” propaganda model. Very different from Cold War-era propaganda, current Russian approaches work with prevailing technologies and social media platforms. There are two key features — “high numbers of channels and messages and a shameless willingness to disseminate partial truths or outright fictions.” There is no effort at consistency or credibility. The report quotes one analyst: “New Russian propaganda entertains, confuses and overwhelms the audience.”
Russia’s method closely resembles Trump’s own propaganda strategy. Trump issues a blizzard of messages, using every medium he can find. He is usually untruthful but always entertaining. He never worries about consistency, asking only that you remember his most recent claims. When campaigning in 2016 he argued that the unemployment rate was a hoax, that the Federal Reserve was keeping interest rates dangerously low and that the stock market was a bubble about to burst. Once he entered the White House, he soon said the opposite about all three. If you bombard people in the present, few have time to dwell on the past.
Wittingly or unwittingly, Trump uses the Russian model, which rests on the principle that people get convinced when they hear the same message many times from a variety of sources, no matter how biased. He adds to this an intuitive understanding of how social media works. If you make a claim that is truly outrageous, it will attract attention and eyeballs, spread far and wide, and ensure that people hear it repeatedly — and over time begin to believe it. A boring truth dies on Twitter, while a sensational lie goes viral and (most disturbingly) over time become a half-truth. (I recently experienced this myself. A commentary of mine was edited so that I seemed to be saying close to the opposite of what I actually was, which then ensured that it was widely disseminated.)
Trump has set a new standard because he simply does not view the truth as a constraint. A principled conservative would explain that Republicans do not have a replacement for Obamacare because they don’t believe the federal government should be required to guarantee health care as a right. Trump’s method is easier — he simply asserts that he has a plan, even better than Obamacare. Trump has announced he will veto the defense appropriations bill, apparently because it removes Confederate names from bases and does not rep

Narratively, these Pages and linked sites discussed Sudan’s economic crisis and positively framed a Russian-Sudanese deal for a Russian naval base in Sudan, and positively framed ongoing Russian activities in Sudan’s mining sector.
Syria:
Overall, Syria-focused assets mobilized in support of the Bashar al-Assadregime,government ... (... which is reocgnized by the UN as the legitimate government of Syria).
The Syrian Facebook Pages told negative stories about the lives of Syrian refugees, perhaps as part of push and pull strategies to promote refugee resettlement.
So dastardly!!

^ Marcos is just salty he's too stupid to hack computers and he still has to burn his trash cans in person.
At least he was already wearing a mask everywhere, so he doesn't feel oppressed when they tell everybody else that they have to.

It's hilarious that your alternate "double think" definition of "without evidence" is DOZENS of articles relaying info from defense departments, energy departments, government officials...EVEN MICROSOFT said it

All relayed info is somehow "neofitsial'nyy" (say the word slow and you'll get it) if I haven't been in the government computers MY OWN SELF.

Seriously, great brainwashing. Ypa

Nobody "said it" except the newspapers.
Name me one quoted person who'se seen the actual code, who understands it, who "said it". Otherwise, it's just people quoting people who quoted someone who heard an anonymous someone say something.
And, meh.

Fify.
A Russian Troll would say "MEH".
Someone that wanted Russia to stay on their frozen hell side of the line would say

Funny how that works!
