Democratic Rout in Wisconsin Looms as ‘Clarion Call’ for Trump
WASHINGTON — The surprise defeat of a conservative justice in a statewide Wisconsin election — despite a show of support from President Trump — drove Republicans and Democrats back to their 2020 electoral playbooks on Tuesday, as both parties examined whether a surge of enthusiasm and on-the-ground organization among Democrats could help them capture that critical battleground state in November.

It was a Primary vote that just happened to have local stuff on it too, dummy.
Nobody who was voting Trump in November was enthusiastic to go to the polls and risk The Coomph just to make Trump the nominee when that's already set in stone. Most voters on either side are morons and probably didn't even realize that there were actual official votes on the ballot, and of course nearly everyone voting in the Democrat primary hit the button to vote straight Democrat down ballot.
Don't let the Legacy Media headlines on non-stories like this poison your brain and set you up for your massive failure again in November.
Do yourself a favor and distance yourself personally from the November election for your own mental health.

What Trump’s bizarre love of Mutiny on the Bounty actually reveals about him
As Jordan Hoffman writes at Vanity Fair, it’s possible the president confused Mutiny on the Bounty with some other movie involving a mutiny. Or perhaps he fell asleep halfway through. Or maybe he’s never seen it and is just making stuff up.
But it’s also possible he’s seen it, many times, and doesn’t get it. In this scenario, Trump’s well-documented love for the film Citizen Kane is instructive, since he expounded on it in a 2002 interview with documentarian Errol Morris. (You can watch that interview here.) Trump was exuberant in his love for the film in general and for the character of Charles Foster Kane specifically — a megalomaniac demagogue who builds an empire but ends up empty and alone. The point of Citizen Kane is that all of the title character’s fortune and fame couldn’t fill the yawning maw that was at the center of his being, which his famous dying words, “Rosebud,” signify. (Rosebud is a sled he was playing on when he was taken away from his mother as a child.)
Trump’s affinity for Kane apparently does not stem from the actual story of Citizen Kane, though it seems eerily parallel to many parts of Trump’s own biography. Instead, during the interview with Morris, Trump made it clear that he sees the movie as a story about a man who chose the wrong woman, and whose troubles are linked to her.
Morris has spoken about the interview on multiple occasions, reflecting on Trump’s “irony deficit disorder.” In one interview, Morris marveled at the seeming disconnect between Trump’s understanding of Citizen Kane and the fairly obvious moral of the film:
If I were Donald Trump, I would not want to emphasize that connection with Kane. You know, a megalomaniac in love with power and crushing everything in his path. The inability to have friends, the inability to find love. The moral that Trump takes from Kane—I mean, it’s one of the great lines that I recorded. I ask, “Do you have any advice for Charles Foster Kane, sir?” You know, let’s get down to the psychiatric intervention. How can we help this poor man? He’s obviously troubled. How can we help him? Donald, help me out here!
And Donald says, “My advice to Charles Foster Kane is find another woman!” And you know, I thought, is that really the message that Welles was trying to convey? That Kane had made poor sexual choices, poor marriage choices?
It’s not. It’s really not.

Trump approval rating has sharpest drop in presidency, big gender gap in Gallup poll
WASHINGTON — A new Gallup poll released on Thursday shows the biggest drop ever in ratings for President Donald Trump and reflects the consistent gender gap in approval between men and women.
The poll, conducted between April 1 and April 14 with a margin of error of 4%, shows that 43% of people surveyed approve of Trump’s job as president while 54% disapprove.
Gallup’s previous poll found that 49% of respondents approved of Trump’s job performance while 45% disapproved.
“The six-point decline in the president’s approval rating is the sharpest drop Gallup has recorded for the Trump presidency so far, largely because Trump’s ratings have been highly stable,” Justin McCarthy of Gallup wrote.
FiveThirtyEight’s aggregate of polling shows Trump with a 44% approval rating and 52% disapproval rating among likely or registered voters. Trump experienced a spike in approval in late March as the U.S. began to grapple with a sudden increase in confirmed coronavirus cases — but that approval increase has since declined in April, the aggregate of polling shows.

45.7% RCP aggregate, which is still well above his pre-Coomph ceiling and outside of the last few weeks is still at or about the highest marks he's had during his entire presidency.
No reason at all to celebrate, buddy.
Also, that poll was conducted before anybody got their Stimulus checks and while millions of Americans were still (and many are still) unsuccessful at securing unemployment because their state governors shut down businesses. (That poll would have been done after they got the checks, had Democrats not spent an entire week obstructing it).
You better hope that Democrats are successful at scaring the shit out of enough people that they cancel the debates, because Trump is going to make Biden cry and revert to a childlike state if they go toe to toe on national TV before the election.

What the Index of Leading Indicators tells us about the 2020 Presidential election
The Index of Leading Indicators as it stands after March’s figure of -6.7% – the worst monthly decline ever recorded – was reported April 17th. As of now, it suggests that the next 4 to 8 months of the economy are going to be the worst since the Great Depression. If the awful news continues into the 3rd and maybe even 4th quarter, voters are going to be extremely unforgiving.
At a feral level Trump knows this. That’s why he is left with a “Hail Mary” pass, hoping that if the economy is “opened up” in May the virus will miraculously abate, and that if it doesn’t, he can blame others.

Political prophet Allan Lichtman: Trump is more likely to lose because of coronavirus
Allan Lichtman has a record of correctly predicting presidential elections — and he thinks pandemic could doom Trump
Kyle Kondik, managing editor of the nonpartisan political newsletter Sabato's Crystal Ball, largely echoed Lichtman's analysis.
"This is a story that is still being written. I do think the precarious state of the economy does pose a potential threat to the president, because his re-election pitch was so reliant on a good economy," Kondik explained by email. "I'm sure this is part of the reason Trump and so many other Republicans are supporting such an expansive stimulus package: As the party with more power in Washington, they stand to take more of the blame if the response to the public health and economic crisis is seen by the public as lacking."
Lichtman also told Salon last week that if Trump loses as a result of the coronavirus, his opponent is almost irrelevant; it simply won't matter whether the Democrats have nominated Biden or Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
Trump's potential defeat has "nothing to do with Joe Biden whatsoever," Lichtman said, although in his formula Biden is not "charismatic," meaning that Key 13 would turn in Trump's favor. "Remember, the basic theory behind the keys is that elections are essentially votes up or down on whether or not the party holding the White House should get four more years."
He added that while he is not advocating for any candidate, "this notion that [Sanders] is unelectable is just false. You and I have talked about this before: the whole notion of electability is nonsense. Except for these once-in-a-generation candidates [he earlier cited Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama] — we have no idea who is electable."

WHERE "THE KEYS TO THE WHITE HOUSE" STAND TODAY. The theory of "The Keys" is that Presidential elections are referenda on the party in power. If 6 or more Keys are turned against the incumbent party, or FALSE, they lose, 5 or fewer and they are re-elected. The Keys have not missed an election since they were developed and first used in 1982.
Allan J. Lichtman, the Prediction Professor, had not yet made an official call on "The Keys" for 2020. THESE ARE NOT FINAL CALLS. America's situation is in a state of great flux, but the incumbent Republican party is currently 4 Keys down, with 4 undecided.
The 13 Keys to the White House:
1. Party Mandate: After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives than after the previous midterm elections. FALSE
2. Contest: There is no serious contest for the incumbent party nomination. TRUE
3. Incumbency: The incumbent party candidate is the sitting president. TRUE
4. Third party: There is no significant third party or independent campaign. TRUE
5. Short-term economy: The economy is not in recession during the election campaign. UNDECIDED
6. Long-term economy: Real per capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms. UNDECIDED
7. Policy change: The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy. TRUE
8. Social unrest: There is no sustained social unrest during the term. UNDECIDED
9. Scandal: The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal. FALSE
10. Foreign/military failure: The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs. UNDECIDED
11. Foreign/military success: The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs. FALSE
12. Incumbent charisma: The incumbent party candidate is charismatic or a national hero. FALSE
13. Challenger charisma: The challenging party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero. TRUE

Trump's plan is simple: vilify Democratic governors and agitate for the end of shutdown orders. Then, “reopen the economy” and spur a massive turnaround in the nation’s economic prospects just in time for Trump to be reelected in November. If the pandemic recedes, he can claim he was entirely responsible; but if people continue to die, he can place the blame on Democratic governors.
Theda Skocpol, a professor of government and sociology at Harvard University, put it this way: “That’s ... Trump’s entire strategy, and you can see it in the way he talks about this.” She added, “I think there really is popular anger among middle income people, particularly living in whiter, less metropolitan parts of these key states” about stay-at-home orders, but “it’s being goosed along by some of the same advocacy groups on the free market right.”
But there’s a problem for Trump: the public, including the vast majority of Republicans, largely supports social-distancing measures, and new polling shows that half of Republicans are concerned stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures will be lifted too quickly. Research shows that many Americans began social distancing before urged to do so by the government, and likely wouldn’t stop even if such orders were lifted. In short, the anti-shutdown-order protests don’t mirror public opinion. And in order for Trump to benefit from their potential impact, they need to — and coronavirus needs to spare rural America (which it isn’t.)
Coronavirus has now become part of the fabric of Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign — one aimed largely at dividing Americans on sociopolitical and cultural lines. But the biggest question still remains: will it work?

The onus should be on Governors, whether they are Democrats or not.
They asked for it, and in this instance they were right.
Trump needs to simply remove the national emergency, allow New York City to keep theirs without giving them any shit about it, then allow states to do as they will. Then just sit back and watch those without stay-at-home orders being enforced locally prosper while the rest look for handouts.

Quote:6ix, you are so clever. The Southern Strategy is the Republican party's successful plan of getting the white southern population to shift their views from Democratic to Republican. The southern population was almost entirely Democratic, but with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 their views became Republican, making it difficult for the Republican Party to win back the support of black voters in the South in later years. In 2005, Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman formally apologized to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a national civil rights organization, for exploiting racial polarization to win elections and ignoring the black vote.

Al Sharpton is a prime example of an extremely racist Democrat. Thanks for bringing that one up. And boy, does the good reverend REALLY hate Jews too.
Fuck Ilhan Omar (who incidentally, also hates Jews). There are legitimate reasons to send her back. If she hadn't interjected herself and her brand of Socialism into the political arena, chances are nobody would know about any of them.

Donald Trump is warning “China will own the United States” if Joe Biden is elected president. But Trump himself is tens of millions of dollars in debt to China: In 2012, his real estate partner refinanced one of Trump’s most prized New York buildings for almost $1 billion. The debt includes $211 million from the state-owned Bank of China — its first loan of this kind in the U.S. — which matures in the middle of what could be Trump’s second term, financial records show.
Steps away from Trump Tower in Manhattan, the 43-story 1290 Avenue of the Americas skyscraper spans an entire city block. Trump owns a 30 percent stake in the property valued at more than $1 billion, making it one of the priciest addresses in his portfolio, according to his financial disclosures.
Trump’s ownership of the building received a smattering of attention before and after his 2016 campaign. But the arrangement with the Bank of China — and its impending due date in 2022 — has gone largely unnoticed.
The revelation complicates one of Trump’s emerging campaign attacks against Biden: that the former vice president would be a gift to the Communist country and America’s chief economic rival.
Trump has denied he has any conflicts. But he rejected calls to fully separate from his namesake company, which comprises more than 500 businesses and includes properties in nearly two dozen countries, after he was sworn into office. He still owns his business, though he asked his adult sons to run it. His holdings were placed in a trust designed to hold assets for his benefit from which he can draw money at any time without the public’s knowledge.
“While Trump is talking about the former vice president’s son financial dealings, in Trump’s case, it is the president himself who has a company he still owns and profits from that has financial relationships with the countries that he is supposed to be negotiating with on behalf of the American people,” said Robert Maguire, research director for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
“There are definitely legitimate questions that are raised by Hunter Biden’s actions,” Maguire said. “They are not even in the same ballpark as the conflict of interest questions raised by President Trump’s continued relationship with his own company.”

Somehow, Miller’s racism got worse after middle school. “He was a shameless racist,” one former high school classmate, Charles Gould, said. “In private conversations, he constantly made disparaging remarks about African-American, Latino and Asian students at our school.” According to Univision, another classmate, Moisés Castillo, remembered Miller telling members of a school group dedicated to promoting Mexican American identity: “This is the United States. Speak English.” Another former classmate, who didn’t want to be named by Univision, said Miller once told him to “go back to your country.”
Miller continued to develop his political identity in college. As members of the Duke Conservative Union, Richard Spencer—a future white nationalist leader—said that Miller befriended him and that they bonded over their views on immigration policy. (Miller has denied that they were friends, even as he has acknowledged working with Spencer during their days together at the Duke Conservative Union.)

Funny how I have never found a live Republican who isn't a racist; for every time I've put a Republican under pressure, it pops out out of their blabbermouth that racism is a prime motivation of their politics. Then they have the temerity to say they aren't racist. They are bold people, but stupid to lie about it immediately after revealing their inner self. Smarter would be stop making claims their behavior does not support. Miller replied that anyone who called him a racist was “an ignorant fool, a liar and a reprobate who has no place in civilized society.” Yeah, Miller, oh we have to believe you and Trump are not racists because you two say you aren't.

If we were ever going to have a racist person in office anywhere, immigration would be the place for them.
Maybe after decades of both parties pretending that ILLEGAL immigration is a problem and lying about doing anything to fix it, finally somebody might actually do something about it.
And I haven't met a Democrat that wasn't racist either. Democrats today boil every single issue down to race and sex. It's all they ever talk about. Ever.

SECOND, I believe that there's a subclass of this new aggressive white nationalist movement, and I put it to white men who are OUTRAGED! that their specialness just hasn't been rewarded in a manner they deem appropriate! They're built head to toe out of frustrated entitlement.
Of course very few people are appropriately rewarded in this society for their contributions. And I'm sorry to see that the only people who seem to be outraged are white males. And it's too bad that they want to make themselves whole by taking away from others.
But in a system where everybody but the people who make money from owning are getting royally screwed (that would be everybody who needs a paycheck), I suppose it's inevitable somebody would take issue at the way the system is treating them.

Trump taking advantage of Covid-19 crisis
Based on the limited information we have, experts have observed that President Trump and his family likely stand to gain immensely from these tax cuts. We don’t know by how much exactly, since the president refuses to release his tax returns, but we do know that real estate businesses like theirs are among the largest beneficiaries of this loophole.
We all need to understand exactly how this massive tax giveaway got into the CARES Act. Look at this number: $195,000,000,000. It’s huge. The payoff to wealthy investors is enormous. When that much money goes out the door to such a small group of beneficiaries, the prospect of corruption and quid pro quo political paybacks is obvious. Big string-pulling donors may have seen this crisis as another way to recoup their political investments. That’s why we’ve asked the administration for a full explanation of its role in securing these tax breaks. We hope we will get real answers and that they will dispel any concern that this was done to benefit the president and his family. If this $195 billion tax giveaway was put in at the request of Republican senators, we need then to know by whom and why.

And why would some kinds of people be particularly bad at operating the machinery of government or business? The Greeks knew. They wrote myths, giving the gods all the shortcomings of the worst humans:
One of the things about Greek mythology that’s so interesting is just how horrible the gods are. The gods are really not exemplars. You might aspire to have the kind of power that they have, but, for the most part, they aren’t virtuous. They’re petty and selfish. The fact that they have achieved this ideal situation of having all the power, eternal life, the ability to fulfill every desire has not made them good people. If anything, it has done the opposite.
When you do get everything you want, when you do have absolutely everything, it doesn’t make you a good person, actually. It makes you kind of a terrible person.
Psychological studies have proved that that is, in fact, correct: When human beings are given ultimate privilege and ultimate power, unless they actively fight against it, their empathy immediately starts dropping. You start assuming that if I’m way up here, I must have gotten here because I deserve it. And therefore, everybody who’s down there, they don’t deserve it. So I’m better than they are, and therefore I can treat them terribly if I want to.
I think it’s so interesting that the human brain goes there and that the Greeks knew that, and they manifested that in their mythology.

From where I'm sitting, I don't see a problem. What could possibly be wrong with a multi-billionaire running the country? He was super-successful before being elected and he has been doing a super job ever since! And just because he has a problem paying his taxes and takes his tax-dodging all the way to the Supreme Court, what is the problem with that? I don't see one.
www.scotusblog.com/2020/04/justices-ask-for-more-briefing-in-trump-tax
-returns-cases/
"Today the justices asked the parties to the congressional-subpoena cases and the federal government, which filed a “friend of the court” brief supporting Trump, to file supplemental briefs addressing whether the political-question doctrine applies to the cases – that is, whether courts should stay out of the fight over the subpoenas (for Trump's tax returns) because it is fundamentally a political dispute between the branches of government. If the justices were to conclude that the doctrine applies, they could dismiss the cases without ruling on the merits of the dispute – which might be a particularly appealing outcome for some justices in the lead-up to the presidential election. Such a decision could have mixed results for Trump: Without a ruling in his favor, he might not be able to block the accountant or lenders from turning over the records, but on the other hand Congress would not be able to enforce a subpoena if the companies holding the records opted not to comply."

America had to go to war in order to pass the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery. That war only killed around a million. No problem. THE SYSTEM WORKS! And that was Lincoln as President. What happens when the lunatic in the White House says whatever pops into his head during a global pandemic, and then goes on to demonstrate his malignant narcissism, ignorance, pathological lying, and obvious desperation in an attempt to save face, making matters worse. It is the direct result of electing a man who, while being both unfit and incompetent, is valued because he speaks his mind, unfiltered.

That's not to say Trump is fine. In his press conference, riffing about UV light and disinfectants, I believe he was playing out a fantasy role. But if that's as far as his personal pathology goes, I'll take that over Obama as a warmongering, people-droning, job-destroying, secretly vengeful, toady of the global system that serves the elite, any day.
Sadly though, Trump's administration's faults aren't limited to Trump's personal pathology. Many in the administration who are a good part of the backbone of the traditional MIC are jonesing for a war with Iran NOW! (Maybe they see his shelf-life might be limited and they're hoping to carry out their agendas before then.) There's that systemic problem again!

Quote:I checked my government book and it says very clearly that the President does NOT have the power to declare war. That is Congress's power, and yet the Pentagon, which doesn't seem to be under control of Congress, keeps going to war no matter who is President. Why doesn't Congress cut the Pentagon's budget in order to get control? How did this nonsense become standard practice? Why don't citizens either force their Congressmen to vote on authorizing wars or else not reelect their Congressmen? It truly is a mystery what is going on inside the heads of a majority of American voters/citizens/tax-payers who allow Congress to keep letting this happen decade after decade since June 4, 1942, when the Senate approved a resolution declaring war with Hungary, the most recent Declaration of War.

I remember talking to a big corporate type during the 2000 election who told me, “You know, it doesn’t really matter who’s president because we have this incredible economy, we have this very advanced society, he’ll have good advisers, whoever he is.” In other words, the person at the top is like a figurehead and the rest of it will run itself.
We found out that wasn’t true very quickly in George W. Bush’s first term. But we really found out it’s not true now. The president is enormously important, and if his character is as wretched as this president’s character, and if his values and impulses are as miserable as his, then it has consequences of life and death. People are dead. Thousands of people are dead because of the character of Donald Trump.

“It snuck up on us,” Trump said on March 18, calling the virus “a very unforeseen thing.” It has now become very clear, of course, that the president and his administration were not in any way caught off-guard by the pandemic, receiving multiple heads-up about the looming catastrophe as the virus starting its spread from such sources as multiple federal agencies and even Trump’s own economic adviser. (The administration also decided to ignore a literal step-by-step guide on how to deal with a pandemic from the outgoing Obama administration, along with a September report from White House economists warning about the toll a potential pandemic could take, and urging them to start preparing now.)

From January to August 2019, the HHS conducted a training simulation about a hypothetical pandemic, caused by a disease that bore striking parallels to the novel coronavirus.
In the simulation, federal agencies fought over who was in charge, state officials and hospitals couldn't figure out what and how much medical equipment was available, and there was no centralized coordination on state lockdowns and school closings.
The team conducting the simulation put together a report laying out the roadblocks they discovered in the exercises, but their warnings went unheeded by Trump.

In any case, there were a crap ton of warnings that this could become a pandemic, including from Tedros himself. And there was certainly a lot of press about it being a ** POTENTIAL ** pandemic no matter where you get your information from. Your claim that there wasn't any notwithstanding.

The strongest critics of the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic point to its flat-footedness and the consequences of time lost.
But the full account looks worse. Over the last five days of February, President Trump and senior officials did something more sinister: They engaged in a cover-up.
A look at this window of time gives insight into how several members of the president’s team were willing to manipulate Americans even when so many lives were at stake.
The recent reports that the president wanted to fire the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s top expert on viral respiratory diseases, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, during this period helps put the pieces of the puzzle together.
What was her offense to the president?
In a conference call with reporters on the final Tuesday of the month, Dr. Messonnier spoke frankly. “We want to make sure the American public is prepared,” she said, then put it in personal terms by saying what she told her children that morning: “We as a family ought to be preparing for significant disruption to our lives.”
At the time, senior officials knew the coronavirus was an extreme threat to Americans. Thanks to information streaming in from U.S. intelligence agencies for months, officials reportedly believed that a “cataclysmic” disease could infect 100 million Americans and discussed lockdown plans. The warnings were given to Mr. Trump in his daily brief by the intelligence community; in calls from Alex Azar, the secretary of health; and in memos from his economic adviser Peter Navarro.
The same day that Dr. Messonnier spoke, the military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence raised the warning level inside the government to WATCHCON1, concluding that the coronavirus was imminently likely to develop into a full-blown pandemic.
But the White House did not want the American public to know.
The president’s stated concerns were specific. He didn’t want to upset the markets or China during trade talks. So the president’s top advisers took to the airwaves with a united purpose: to deny the truth.

Gawd you're so dense.
"We have 14 cases and pretty soon it will be zero."
"One day it's just going to disappear..."
"Anybody who wants a test can get one."
etc, etc, etc
You only have to be half paying attention to know how much dodging and lying that PoS's been doing over this.

At the end of the day there is not a single thing that he ever could have said or done that you wouldn't bitch about.

You are correct - he hasn't done a single thing right. Now he's even telling states to open up - ones that don't even meet his own guidelines for opening. We're talking brain dead stupid

The states were going to open up whether or not he had anything to say about it.
Even Democrat ran dystopian shitholes are backpedaling on their Chinese Communist-style lockdowns in the wake of other neighboring states reopening.
