Yeah. I had a great doctor's visit at the beginning of the year, after I'd been working that job for over a year. Been eating right still, but I just can't get into working out if it's not at a job anymore. Because I smoke and I wasn't great to myself earlier in life it seems like it doesn't take very long for me to regress a bit if I'm not working. I just need to get another job and it should be alright. It was cool when I was keeping myself busy working on the house, but once it got cold that was it...
Put another hour or so into the guitar again tonight. Had to quit because of the pain, but it's pretty cool how quick I'm picking it up again after all of these years. The song I'm trying to teach myself again is something that I never mastered. It's pretty tricky. About 80% of it I've got down perfect, but there are a few really crazy parts that I'm going to have to try to get down in the next week before I give the guitar to her. I think I can do it though.

Watched a movie (fictional) last night with the family called "Brother's Keeper" about a group of linemen in Texas, and darn if it didn't set me to reminiscing.
I wasn't a lineman (or lineperson or whatever) but I WAS a stack tester for a while, a real hardhat/ climbing occupation. I had forgotten what it felt like.
Tallest stack I ever climbed was 200 ft. (They usually have ladders with safety cages around them, interruptions and catwalks every 30-40 feet or so, best as I recall.)
Scariest place I ever tested was at the very top of a vacuum distillation unit. I mean the VERY top. The refinery wanted to know if there was a leak in their unit, and there was a big nut at the very top that allowed us to access the gases inside, but we had to crawl out on a gangplank-type thing (no railing, fifty feet off the ground) with the damn unit shaking like crazy.
The hottest place I ever tested was on top of a fume incinerator of a "can and coil" coating operation, underneath a metal shed roof on a hot summer day in the Sacto Valley. The reason why I got that spot was because I happened to be wearing lineman's boots ... leather soled with steel shanks (for motorcycle riding while standing on pegs) while everyone else had Vibram soles, and standing on the fume incinerator was melting their soles. All I had to do was watch the flow gage and crack open a sampling valve whenever the flow dropped off, and do that for 20 minutes. It wasn't much, but I was EXHAUSTED.
I've been to all of the major refineries in the area and some of the minor ones (including spending a pleasant afternoon on top of a electrostatic precipitator of an FCCU, with the rappers and buzzers going off at regular intervals, checking out the view from 70 feet.
Been to a coke calcining kiln, all of the "boiler" type power plants in the area as well as some of the smaller turbine-type "peaker" units, resin manufacturing plants, cement kilns, spray booth operations, printing operations and plating operations.
I'm going to continue with this for a while because I learned a LOT about industry at that time, and want to pass along how things were done "back then". It was fascinating and impressive.
