Democrats aren’t doing impeachment right.
There’s no way to get to 67 votes in the Senate without overwhelming support from voters of both parties.
The only way you get to the high threshold of popular support necessary to convict in the Senate is by impeaching based on counts that are clearly proven and undeniable, and that a lot of Americans, not just members of the impeaching party, care about.
The impeachment of Donald Trump should have been based on issues that nobody could deny and that everybody, regardless of which party they belonged to, could see was a major problem.
Most Republicans do not care about Ukraine. Neither do many Democrats! Besides, the issue of intent is far from proven. It’s not a unifying issue for Americans.
Andrew Johnson was impeached partly because of his nasty disposition, and came one vote from conviction in the Senate. I would have gone after Trump for his bad temperament. Everyone agrees a president should be calm and deliberate. No one would argue that Trump’s personality is presidential.
Child separation would have been powerful. Not even Republicans approve of stealing kids and then losing them.
Emoluments would have worked too. Lining your pockets as president is frowned upon by everyone.
Tax cheating would have worked too.

I would have started this process in 2017 so as not to have this current rush job prior to an election campaign. I would have used the courts to compel recalcitrant administration officials to testify; starting in 2017 would have allowed that process to occur.
This impeachment is too little too late. Democrats will regret it.

The writer of the article missed the mark on the reasons why, and laughably reasons away the fact that this was doomed in the first place by giving alternatives that wouldn't have made a bit of difference, but they are right about Democrats not doing impeachment right and the fact that Democrats will regret it.

A lot has happened since Valentine's day, 2017.
Nancy hasn't wanted this to happen since day one, since she knew that there was no way to make it work out well for Democrats if it actually happened.
Trump forced her to do it. So she caved to the gang of four and the extreme left wing nutjobs and started the informal process and would have been happy to just let that ride for the next year.
But then Trump forced her to make it official.
Now she HAS to go through with impeachment. The Democrats are too far in to just walk away from it right now. They would get annihilated in the elections next year if they did that, simply because of low Democrat voter turnout.
But rather than string this freakshow on longer (like most Legacy Media outlets say she should be doing), she's going to try to speed it through the process for a quick vote before Christmas to just put it to bed.
I'm of the mind that if enough Democrats defect and vote against impeachment to save their own asses in 2020, that an equal number of Republicans should vote for it, just to make sure it happens.
Then the GOP controlled congress should drag it out for at least another 6 months and keep Sanders and Warren off the trail.
Nancy just wants this to go away at this point. Nobody should allow her to get away with that. She needs to pay for her poor choices.
Everybody expects that A) Not enough Democrats will defect, and B) Republicans are going to immediately vote it down and enrage the left even further.
I wouldn't let either of those things happen. Make sure impeachment passes the house by giving it full partisan support. Then spend the next 6 months proving that there was no wrong doings and it was nothing more than the political hack job that it was designed to be from the beginning.
Maybe we can dismantle MSNBC and CNN and get people like Rachel Maddow blacklisted from ever reporting again too. Maybe freeze her ill-gained assets and re-allocate them back to the media corporations to fund actual journalists and fact checking departments that have seen massive downsizing or even straight up removal of their departments to fund multi-million dollar contracts by these idiot talking heads that are tearing the country apart.
