Terminator: Dark Fate

It's been a few hours, but I'll try and give you my first impressions of the movie.
Now, normally I don't watch any reviews (my experience lately has been negative with all sorts of critics, professional and otherwise), usually before I go see a flick I like or I'm interested in seeing. But this time I did it a little different; I actually watched a review after the fact.
I watched a video by "Late to the Party" (a trio of nerds who, like me, review from the seat of their pants - kind of on the fly). It was non spoilery. But here's why I went that route: I wanted to see what they thought because I was on the fence (initially) on how I felt about it. Also, I did like their take on the Star Wars final trailer.
Final verdict: we were pretty much on the same page.
Just wanted to be up front about that. Here's why I think on was on the fence, and that may shed some light on my amateur review. As I have said in the past, I'm a sci-fi geek, love all aspects of it (especially if it's a well-told story). I consider the Terminator franchise to be among the best, Cameron...enough said. He wrote the story/script and produced the movie. Ok, so my personal love for this franchise may get in the way of my review, or more commonly known as bias. Again, putting it out there. Full disclosure.
Having said that; I loved it. Here comes the review: Good solid story in the James Cameron tradition. Full of action (perhaps just a tad too much), never a dull moment, a little predictable, but we're talking about Terminator so some things are expected and are built into the movie. But I think it flowed organically. The CGI is powerful and seamless; Cameron does not disappoint.
Groundbreaking new stuff. But, to be honest, I kind of dug that familiarity.
Sarah Connor was bad-ass, Arnold was too, but in a unique kind of way. There are some surprises, but generally it's a bad ass Terminator movie.
The score was solid, the new Terminator was serviceable and so was the new "Sarah Connor" - but the new "protector" wait until you see her. This part was a stroke of genius on Cameron's part. The actress who plays her would give
Charlize Theron a run for her money in the female action hero genre. Mackenzie Davis, remember that name. She played the part of Grace, the new "Sarah Connor" protector. I have to say, I liked the story/script that Cameron came up with...new, but familiar. One negative I found, there was an action sequence that played much like a Transformer scene; who's camera angles and shot sequence didn't come off so well. Too much action and too close to get a good look at who was doing what to whom. For the most part, the action was hot and dynamic, pulse-pounding and terrific. More like in a summer movie.
I'm giving it 3.5 Stars for well done, terrific action, solid acting and great pacing.

This movie is a disaster for the franchise and no one needs spend their time or money watching this hot mess.
Why ? I'll be brief.
The franchise is a shell of its former self. ( like almost all sci-fi franchises today ) Massive plot holes and continuity cliffs abound. And retconning characters and themes from the original works, simply to insert a cringy social justice agenda … just terrible.
As Gary from Nerdrotic said ' Hollywood is monetizing its apology for the 'pound'MeToo - Harvey Weinstein sins and the fans are having to pay for it ' .
And so it goes for this wokey dumpster fire.
Apparently there's some solid de-aging CG early on in the movie, but it's wasted on a terrible open to a terrible movie.
Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I have no interest in seeing Sarah Conner and her Hillary Clinton hairdo.
The Terminator franchise has been dead to me ever since they made Terminator 3.
I'll say what I said about the Batwoman TV show. It will be unfortunate if this is actually the first great Terminator movie since T2, because they've ruined it right out the gates with the shitty SJW pandering marketing.
Sarah Connor was a badass and a hero that I looked up to when T2 came out. I didn't need anybody to tell me that. The marketing for this flick is beyond gross.
Like I said, I really had no interest in seeing it anyhow. I've only caught one entirely forgettable Terminator film in the franchise after the entirely forgettable T3, and I couldn't even tell you how many of them I've missed in between. It's just sad that they feel the need to market things like this still in 2019 and haven't learned their lessons yet.
Nope. It wasn't made for me. I will not be seeing it.
I'm sure Steve Shives will be lead by his girlfriend on his leash to see it a dozen times though, and he'll enjoy every second of it.

The Steve Shives remark wasn't really a dig at you.
I did read what you had written about your recent attitude change about him in the Joker thread, regarding an incident that I'm not even aware of and how you're questioning if the guy even had any integrity in the first place.
Good for you. I'm genuinely glad for you on that front.
That being said, I'm sure Steve Shives will be lead by his girlfriend on his leash to see Terminator: Dark Fate a dozen times, and he'll enjoy every second of it, squirming around on his seat trying to get his butt plug deeper and imagining the proper pegging she's going to give him for being a good doggy when they get home.

I haven't seen it but it's safe for me to say it's been a very bad year for rehash reboots. Rambo, X-Men and Men in Black all tanked, this may be a bad sign for STAR WARS Episode 9. Maybe the powers that be in Hollywood will learn from the Joker, you can make something old new again if you take a chance. It makes me wonder, are they out of ideas or do they think they're playing it safe?
