Because the only people I know who're constantly talking about killing, maiming, or otherwise severely punishing people to "make them do what I want" are authoritarians. It doesn't matter what you SAY your goals are, that's the very definition of authoritarianism! You should read the intro to The Authoritarians by Altmeyer. On page 10, he makes a point that there are right-wing AND left-wing authoritarians. in THIS society right-wing authoritarians are more common, but left-wing authoritarians aren't unheard-of.
