Politico Magazine has published an excerpt from a forthcoming book about Trump and the GOP by journalist Tim Alberta. In it, Alberta reports the following:
After the tape became public, scores of top Republican lawmakers, donors and activists — far more than did so publicly — privately urged then-Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus to push Trump out and replace him with Vice President Pence at the top of the ticket. This included then-House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Pence hunkered down and prayed with his wife, Karen, who furiously warned him that she would no longer appear in public if Pence remained Trump’s running mate. Pence hinted to advisers that he might have to stop campaigning with Trump.
But the key revelation is what happened next. At the next debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump ferociously attacked back, blasting Bill Clinton’s history with women and even threatening to unleash law enforcement on Hillary Clinton, saying that with him as president, Clinton would “be in jail.”
Alberta recounts what then transpired:
"Within 48 hours the bleeding had stopped: Republicans ceased their calls for his withdrawal, Pence dutifully returned to the stump and his campaign went on as though nothing had happened."
With this, Trump displayed a remarkable, if perhaps instinctual, grasp of how to survive in today’s GOP. What rescued Trump was going ferociously on the attack, which crucially included threatening to put the "real" enemy in prison.

Acosta's a piece of shit because he gave a rich politically connected serial rapist and underage girls trafficker a sweetheart deal for only 13 month in jail. Epstein should have gotten at least 12-20 years like any other pedophile sex trafficker would have. Now the full scope of the crimes are becoming public due to more victims providing new details of their enslavement. That makes Acosta's actions and reasons for securing his unprecedented, unholy, and sickeningly lenient deal urgently subject to a criminal conspiracy investigation.

This is not the first time Trump has indicated that he’s interested in staying in office for more than two terms. He’s said he does so to troll the media, but given his open admiration for dictators abroad and repeated efforts to undermine the rule of law at home, his jokes about becoming president for life really aren’t funny.

“Wait, you’re willing to impeach the American people as voters?” a possibly stunned Blitzer asked. “Yes, if necessary,” the President responded. “I cannot allow him into this chair, with his finger so close to the button. The power would go to his head immediately.”
Obama even suggested he will barricade himself and his family inside the White House if it means stopping the Trump family from taking up residency there. “I’ve instructed the Secret Service to use full force in defending the White House from the Trump family. Joe has already expressed his willingness to die multiple times in order to keep them out of here.”
When questioned by Howard Stern, Trump seemed unconcerned by the President’s stance. “Don’t worry, we’ll get some of the second amendment people to sort him out pretty quickly.”

Quitting because of Epstein, Mr. Alex Acosta is the 14th Cabinet member to depart from the Trump White House.
At the same point in presidencies, departures:
Bush: 1
Obama: 0
Trump: 14
This means that two-thirds of Trump’s cabinet has been fired or resigned since he took office (14 out of 22). Remember back in the day, when the problem with government was simple: presidents kept hiring idiots and Trump was going to fix that by hiring only the best people?
