USGS reporting program DID YOU FEEL IT
I felt a gentle rocking.

M 6.4 - 12km SW of Searles Valley, CA appx 10:30 this am.

There seem to be a number of earthquakes in that area, some the USGS associates with Searles Valley and some with Ridgecrest which is nearby. Looking at the map, it looks to be about 200 mi almost due north of me.

All of these many quakes started with a few small ones so the small ones were foreshocks.

eta:

The first one of the Searles Valley / Ridgecrest set appears to be a small and shallow quake (as quakes go, but almost 3x as deep as the Glen Avon swarm)
M 0.5 - 11km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 09:07:20 10.2 km

with larger and smaller quakes quickly ramping up over an hour
M 1.5 - 11km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 09:13:43 11.1 km
M 4.0 - 11km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:02:55 10.3 km
M 2.5 - 11km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:09:20 11.6 km
M 0.9 - 10km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:11:32 11.5 km
M 2.1 - 12km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:12:15 9.6 km
M 1.9 - 11km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:12:38 10.7 km
M 0.9 - 9km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:13:51 13.6 km
M 1.4 - 10km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:15:47 11.2 km

to near-simultaneous 6.4 Searles Valley / Ridgecrest quakes not quite an hour and a half after the initial quake

M 6.4 - 12km SW of Searles Valley, CA 2019-07-04 10:33:49 10.7 km
M 6.4 - 10km ENE of Ridgecrest, CA 2019-07-04 10:35:01 4.8 km

followed by many aftershocks (though there's always a chance something even bigger is going to come along)

Neither Searles Valley nor Ridgecrest are associated with a major fault.

Expect more earthquakes, possible even larger ones, seismologist say

Seismologists said the 6.4 earthquake that struck Southern California likely broke ground near the epicenter but was far enough not to do damage in the Los Angeles area.

Seismologist Lucy Jones said the quake was far enough away from the dangerous San Andreas fault “that any impact on the system will be minimal.”

Still more quakes — possibly bigger ones — are likely.

“This does not make [the Big One] less likely. There is about a 1 in 20 chance that this location will be having an even bigger earthquake in the next few days, that we have not yet seen the biggest earthquake of the sequence,” she added.

There have already been dozens of aftershocks from the quake, and Jones says they should keep coming.

“Some aftershocks will probably exceed magnitude 5, which means they’ll probably be damaging,” she said. “The last time we had an earthquake above magnitude 6 in Southern California was in 1999.”

That was the Hector Mine quake. It was a 7.1.

Robert Graves, a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, says the USGS was sending geologists to the field to look for surface rupture.

Near the epicenter in Ridgecrest, the quake maxed out at intensity level 7, or very strong shaking. The city of Ridgecrest, population 29,000, endured intensity level 6, or “very strong” shaking, in which damage that might occur could result in broken chimneys and considerable damage in poorly built or badly designed buildings, but negligible damage in buildings of good design and construction.

The earthquake was felt widely throughout the Los Angeles area, said Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson. It’s unlikely there was significant damage in a major urban area given that the earthquake was centered in such a remotely populated area.

The area that ruptured occurred in an area of faults slightly east of the Sierra Nevada. The Little Lake fault is one of them, and last went through a magnitude 6 earthquake in 1984, Hauksson said.

Not much progress anywhere, really. I looked at some real estate down by my brother and found one out of the six houses to be promising. In the mean time, I've done a lot of yard work, because that's basically free. Clearing out as much crap as I can so I'm only left with what would basically fit in an apartment.

I think I'm back to selling the house for cash, or at least talking to a real estate agent and seeing what my options are. New developments have occurred that make it an impossibility for me to fix it up myself. I don't have the knowledge, the skill or the income to have somebody else do it. All I can really do now is try to get it in the hands of somebody who can do it before it gets worse and hopefully make a few bucks in the process. I've resigned myself to the fact that there is no way I'm getting what I paid for it now.

The teeth are just going to have to wait. No that there's no pain, my mouth is about 100 on my current priority list.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

SIX. Life, as they say, is what happens as we make other plans. I'm sorry to hear that progress on your house it out of your hands. Sometimes things like that happen.

Sounds tho like you have a goal in mind, and that's to move someplace smaller and closer to your brother. It's good to have a goal to look forward to, instead of just treading water! Also, will you have AC??

Where I grew up, our bedrooms were basically a converted attic, right under the roof. The roof was well-insulated, but there were no windows facing west (where the wind usually blew from) and no cross-breeze, and I remember having an EXTREMELY hard time getting to sleep. I didn't realize it then because I was just a little kid, but it was just too damn hot. So I know a little about hot humid weather, and I know it's worse the further inland you go. I think I got my hatred of hot weather from that experience.

May I make a suggestion? For your next job, set your sights higher? You're a smart guy, you know how to problem-solve. Maybe there will be a responsible position where your problem-solving skills are an asset, and you don't have to be a droid manager. Licensed hanydman? Software developer? Not sure what fits your skillset, but I have faith in you.

Thanks Kiki. Yeah, they still hurt.

BRENDA, you must REALLY have been in a cramped situation! It sounds to me like you were forced to move into a teeny tiny place with all of your wordly possessions quite a while ago, and you're FINALLY getting a chance to unearth/unpack your things, and make a home for yourself! I'm glad that you're able to arrange your things and make a nice place for yourself. It must be so pleasant to be able to revisit memories, and to be able to invite people over and have a place for them!

I'm happy for you!
