Siggy,
This is America, we have some 300 million people living here of all shapes and sizes; of all colors under the rainbow (and inside as well). Right now there are approx 12 million undocumented living in this country; again, of all colors, shapes and sizes. Most of which have overstayed their welcome, even fucking sneaky Russians do it. They travel and oops, I forgot about my work permit (Melania) or I forgot about my travel/student visa. They get into the country and like it so much that they decide it's worth a shot to not leave the country, according to the law.
That British dufus, Mark Burnett, the one who gave us Survivor and The Donald, is here illegally.
Chinatown is full of Chinese who come by the boatload. Indians from India.
And so forth. So please, spare me the invasion propaganda.

There have been many mass migrations in human history in which the natives were overtaken by the immigrants. Oh, and BTW, it's not like the white man didn't deliberately slaughter hundreds of thousands of native; it wasn't just a passive invasion by germs that killed natives it was deliberate genocide.Quote:Hmm... what happened to the Roman Empire, again?
A specific mass migration that is seen as especially influential to the course of history may be referred to as a 'great migration'. For example, great migrations include the Barbarian Invasions during the Roman EmpireQuote:And the Americas?
the Great Migration from England of the 1630sQuote:The natives of California?
the California Gold Rush from 1848–1850Quote:And the Abyssinians?
and The Great Oromo Migrations of Oromo tribes during the 15th and 16th centuries in the Horn of Africa.
Heck, even the invasion of Europe and Asia by Homo Sapiens didn't work out too well for the Neanderthals and Denisovans. Migrations do NOT always work out for the natives, so get your head out of wherever it is and look at reality.
*****
In any case, MY reaction to migrants is that we need to represent Americans first. We treat illegal aliens better than we treat many of our own citizens. Heck, we have homeless families out on the street who dodn't get the help that illegal aliens are getting.
Except for the fact that we have meddled in their nations, we have no moral obligation to take in a lot of migrants. We would be better off ending our interventionism in other nations and working to improve living conditions there instead (and not as just another corporate invasion.)

They say that, on December 24, a U.S. Border Patrol agent noticed [THE FATHER DIDN'T NOTICE?] that the child showed symptoms of illness, so the boy and his father were transferred to the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, N.M. And the child was released midafternoon with prescriptions for an antibiotic and ibuprofen.
But, later that night, he began vomiting and was transferred back to the medical center, where he died shortly after midnight this morning. - NPR

Now, NPR "reports" that the girl who died in custody had been in custody for a week, but every other report that I found ... including one from a Guatemala ministry, said that the interval was more like eight hours
Quote:https://www.whio.com/news/national/year-old-guatemalan-migrant-dies-de
The girl and her father were taken into custody around 10 p.m. Dec. 6, accused of illegally crossing into the United States, Border Patrol officials told The Washington Post. The group of 163 people approached CBP agents south of Lordsburg, New Mexico, to turn themselves in.
The Associated Press reported that an official with Guatemala’s foreign ministry identified the girl as Jackeline Caal. Her father was identified as Nery Caal, 29, of Raxruha, a town in the northern Guatemalan department of Alta Verapaz.
Ministry officials told the AP that Jackeline was feverish and vomiting as she and the other migrants were being taken to the Border Patrol station in Lordsburg.
Around 6:25 a.m. the next day, the girl began having seizures ...

Once she was found to be ill, she was flown to hospital. Not driven by ambulance... flown. By all accounts, the girl had not eaten or drunk in the DAYS before being taken into custody ... so who was responsible for THAT?
I suggest that you dial down your (misplaced) outrage.
*******
Now, as far as illegal immigrants are concerned ... I have a personal grotch against the illegal Hispanics because they not only feel entitled to be here, they feel entitled not to assimilate because many of them have a grotch against the gringo. Entirely understandable since we have treated their nations so badly in both trade (NAFTA, CAFTA) and war, but still... do we really want people here whose first act is to disrespect our laws and whose second act is to carry a grudge against the USA?
But I'm not too happy with the Chinese either ... and have posted so many times. I DID tell you about my acquaintance ... the Chinese lady ... who thinks the USA is STUPID for letting Chinese immigrants scam the USA, have I not?
Is not one of my solutions to the problem to reform our visa system?
Apparently, you just don't pay attention! So I find YOU arguing with the voices in your head - much like SECOND, GSTRING, and THUGR. Yanno, it would help if you would respond to what people post, and not to the grotch playing endlessly in your own head.
*****
FWIW, I think the USA should simply photo, fingerprint, and immediately deport people who have been found to enter illegally, and make them all ineligible for asylum. Period. Run regular air flights to Honduras or Guatemala or Mexico City or wherever and ship them out as fast as they enter and are captured. We spend a lot of money, and get into a lot of trouble, holding people in custody, because once we have them in custody they become OUR problem.
Now, I understand

Well, I guess now is my opportunity to piss off everyone all the way around...
Quote:JSF, you should probably read "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond as he attempts to explain WHY the Indo-European culture took over so much of the world.
Using hindsight, it is a shame the Native Americans were not more robust.
Rumor is, they had the whole continent to themselves for 1,000 years or more. England had a population around BC which was sporadic, then effectively overran the borders within 1,000 years.
Man's innate drive to fight and kill fellow Man withered their ranks. Think of all the generations who died from War between Tribes/Nations. Such potential. Lost.- JSF
The points of his argument that I found more persuasive are as follows:
1) Early domestication of animals in the Indus River valley exposed the populations to a wide variety of germs.
2) The nature of geography and latitude: People travel (and migrate) most easily in the same latitude, where the climate is about the same. That way they can take their grains their animals, and their way of life with them. And the northern hemisphere landmasses stretch east-to-west (unlike the southern hemisphere landmasses which stretch more north-to-south). The Indus Valley was also the beneficiary of east-west trade, bringing in MORE germs and winnowing out a more robust population.
3) Eventually that population migrated east-to-west and was able to take its economy with it (and kill off other people in the process). There were extensive empires(?) in the Americas as well, but translating an economy from the high Andes to the southwestern desert was impossible. Also, one of the civilizations (I forget which one but it may have been the Mayan) was killed off by a 30-year drought caused by a volcanic explosion in China; without the ability to move away from their civilizational area (having to cross too many climactic zones) that civilization died in place.
But that tribal "infighting"? It was a feature of early Indo-European society as well ... nothing inherently superior about "the west", socially-speaking. (The Chinese are another story for another day, but they -literally- burned their ships instead of creating a sea-based empire. If they hadn't done that we would all be speaking Chinese today.)
Quote:My mind came to a screeching halt in this one ... Do you not know of the history of the British Empire with what is now India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China?
Although the Natives were obviously Occidental, the assumption was that Columbus had overshot the Orient, and these resembled most closely the stories of India Natives. Europeans had dealt pleasantly and peaceably with India
It's a history of extreme violence bordering on genocide, and rapacious exploitation. I suggest you look it up.

Quote:Signym, two million were murdered during the partitioning of India in 1947. It wasn’t the Brits doing the murdering, Signym. That was followed by three million murdered during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Again, it was not the Brits doing the murdering. And your summation of "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond is not worth a goddamn. Your version does not run in close parallel to Diamond’s book.

The Partition of India was the division of British India.
Like the division of Palestine, artificial lines of separation by colonial masters continue to wreak havoc today.
But be that as it may, the history of the British in south Asia and China was not a peaceable one! It was one of violence almost to the point of genocide and rapacious exploitation.

This doesn't even address the Opium Wars, in which the then-nominal Emperor of China attempted to halt the [British] importation of opium into China (because being a drug-lord was extremely profitable for the British) and was militarily forced into allowing the continued degradation of the Chinese people.
Quote:
The Opium Wars were two wars in the mid-19th century involving China and the British Empire over the British trade of opium and China's sovereignty. The clashes included the First Opium War (1839–1842) and the Second Opium War (1856–1860). The wars and events between them weakened the Qing dynasty and forced China to trade with the other parts of the world.[1][2]
In 1820, China's economy was the largest in the world, according to British economist Angus Maddison.[3] Within a decade after the end of the Second Opium War, China's share of global GDP had fallen by half.[4] In another research paper published by Michael Cemblast of JP Morgan[citation needed] and updated by the World Economic Forum, similar conclusions were reached—i.e. China was the largest economy in the world for many centuries until the Opium Wars.[3]

The Chinese remember this as the Century of Humiliation.

Parents' fault?
Here at the northern border, we can't even get below 40 degrees on a regular basis.
Anyway, this was AFTER intentionally illegally invading a Foreign Country - by choice avoiding a legal Port of Entry.
Yep, parent's fault.
Maybe they should have tried a Port of Entry.
