Who Is Looking Forward To Government Shutdown?

Sure, all reasonable people understand that with a full and complete Government Shutdown, only 86% of the Government will remain functioning, getting paid, spending taxpayer dollars.
But the 14% that does actually stop, might save us some money.
Obamanation is no longer in office, with his crusade to bankrupt America. So any Shutdown now would not require his blowing out the Overtime pay to call out SWAT to Expel Law-Abiding Citizens from Free and Open To The Public Parks and Government properties.
So no honest working Americans would even notice if the Government Shuts Down again now. No need for the Republicans and RINOs to cave in or capitulate to Pelosi tantrums.
Who thinks it would be a good idea?
If you think it would be a not good idea, what is your reason? Try to be rational.

Ignorant statement of the day.
You DO know there are many businesses that basically run off of the presence of government workers being at work, right? And that not all government workers are just rollin' in it??
More than 850,000 federal workers who were furloughed during the 2013 shutdown eventually got repaid. But the janitors, security guards, and cafeteria servers who work as subcontractors in federal buildings didn't.
More than 700 janitors and security guards and 500 food-service workers were unable to work in the Washington, DC, area during the shutdown, according to the Washington Post.
The head of a local janitorial company told the Post at the time that 100 employees who cleaned the Labor and Justice Departments couldn't work. It ended up costing his company $80,000.

shutdown-2018
Most services will continue, but national parks may be shut down, safety inspections (for example, for hazardous waste and drinking water) could be halted, and the IRS may not be able to process taxes and refunds,” said Marc Goldwein, senior vice president and senior policy director for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, in an email to MarketWatch. During the government shutdown in 2013, some $2.2 billion in Internal Revenue Service refunds to individual taxpayers were delayed.
Shutting down the Department of Homeland Security could prove problematic for troops deployed along the southern U.S. border. Nearly 6,000 active-duty troops and 2,100 Guardsmen deployed to the region could see border patrol activities cut or canceled in coming weeks, further confusing the role of support forces there.
The Coast Guard operated at 80 percent, but its services to maritime commerce and recreational boating would cease, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.
VA officials work closely with HUD leaders on a host of homeless outreach efforts throughout the year, and a disruption in their funding could mean reducing or temporarily canceling some of those efforts.

Quote:I think it would be an excellent idea because a 100 daylong shutdown would be very destructive to the GOP and Trump. Even Trump voters would notice (maybe some of them) that Trump does not understand how to negotiate with Congress.

It would be Trump going on strike and shutting down whatever he can. That is no way for Trump to be performing his duties as Chief Executive of the United States. What he would be doing is as stupid as, for example, the CEO of Ford threatening to shutdown the assembly line for Mustangs because the CEO has a dispute with the board of directors. The directors at Ford could handle the situation better than Congress can. Ford would fire that CEO in about 48 hours, not take 48 months to decide he has to go.

This would probably be a good time for people to start altering their W4 to match what their taxes paid in would be according to their situation.
I ALWAYS claim 2 dependents up front even though I'm single and I'm my only dependent. I've NEVER ended up owing any taxes this way, and if it weren't for the Earned Income Credit, my returns would only be around 30 bucks or less at the end of the year.
I can't figure out why people don't do this. Sure, tax day wouldn't be something to look forward to like it is for a lot of people now, but your bi-weekly check would be that much larger because you weren't giving the government a free loan on your money all year long.
If the government does get shut down this year, they can keep my $30 + EIC until it's over. I won't be among the people waiting for a $1,000+ tax return.
So long as you pay your taxes at the end of the year, this is completely legal to do.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

Turns out they were right about the immoral. But it seemed a stupid, self-defeating strategy to me, yet they didn't agree. They didn't volunteer for war and they cut back on their work-hours and they are, today, poor. I took the oppose view: I volunteered, I increase my hours after I came home, and I am, today, not poor. But I also don't give a gorram about moral vs immoral or legal vs illegal or polite vs impolite. I do care about more money vs less money. That attitude has worked very well for Trump and me, but doesn't work nearly as well once you are President of the United States. Too many people are aware of what you are doing as President and will judge you harshly.

Anybody with half a brain will realize that I didn't say anything about any hours worked, I didn't suggest anybody should use this method to get out of paying any taxes that they actually owe, or I didn't recommend to anybody that they should cut back on their hours to avoid paying taxes.
Claiming more dependents up front on your W4 isn't a lie. It's simply the way to reduce your bi-weekly federal tax OVERpayment. All Uncle Sam gives a shit about at the end of the year is that you paid what you were supposed to. Since I've been doing this for about 15 years, I've never owed a single penny at the end of the year, but I didn't lose any sleep waiting for the large interest free loan I gave the government to come in the mail after April 15th like a majority of Americans do.
It should be noted that you shouldn't go and claim that you have 10 dependents and pay no federal taxes on every check. That would be stupid because not only would you end up owing at the end of the year, but you'd likely be WELL over the limit of taxes that you would owe at the end of the year and you would be fined and/or have to pay interest for every Quarter that you were over as well.
I would recommend to anybody making $60,000 or less to try raising your dependents by only 1 more than you actually have. You will have a notably larger bi-weekly paycheck. (Basically, your usual Federal Tax Return minus the new much smaller return, divided by 26. Added to every paycheck.). I can't speak for anybody making more than that since I've never been in that situation myself.
Oh, and why bring up Trump again in your quote/reply to me here? I didn't say anything about Trump. You really have a one track mind, don't you?

How Many Allowances Should I Claim?
When deciding the number of tax allowances you’ll have to claim, your filing status, the number of jobs you have and whether you have dependents will come into play. So how many allowances do you need? We’ll break it down for you.
Let’s say you’re a single person living on your own. You have zero dependents and only one job, so ideally the total number of allowances you’re claiming would be two. On your W-4 form, you would write a “1” beside line A and a “1” next to line D under the Personal Allowances Worksheet.
You could choose to claim zero tax allowances. That would probably guarantee you a tax refund, but as a result, your paychecks would be smaller. You could claim one allowance as well if you’re interested in getting a refund.

Yeah. So what? What I choose to do with my life and my money is what I live with.
I didn't recommend that to anybody here. None of you jokers could live carefree like I do.
My temperature is comfortable now. Jury's out on what the bill will be, but it will still be only a fraction of what my last apartment rent was and I can afford it.
I can also pay cash money for the furnace upgrade that I'll likely be making in the spring. By that time I should even have a few more thousand saved up. :)

"Rules for All Dependents
Dependents are usually, but not always, a child or other relative. Qualifying children and qualifying relatives have their own additional requirements, but all dependents must meet these requirements:
Dependents can have their own tax returns, and even be married, but they must not have filed a joint tax return for the year unless it’s just to claim a refund.
They must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a resident alien.
They must have a taxpayer identification number. That’s usually a Social Security Number, but if the child doesn’t qualify for one, it can be an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or an Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN)."
How the hell do you think you can just make it up?
You better hope the IRS doesn't come calling. Since you can't pay your debts you'll just go to prison. Say hi to Paul, Michael, Jared and Don Jr.

Go back to school, son.
You could claim 50 Billion dependents on your W4 if you wanted to.
I'm NOT telling anybody to claim more dependents than they have on their 1040, which is where it matters. You'd obviously be breaking some serious laws if you did that, because claiming dependents ON YOUR 1040 FORM actually lowers your total tax obligations, and if you get audited and don't have those dependents you claimed you could be facing serious fines and jail time.
What you put on your W4 form simply changes what your employer, or what your employer's payroll firm deducts from your paychecks for federal taxes upfront on each paycheck.
If you were an idiot and put 3 or 4 on there when you don't have any, it's likely you wouldn't have any deducted at all, and when you file your 1040 you would end up owing a lot of money to the fed... likely enough to be fined and have to pay interest for not paying it. This underpayment would be calculated quarterly, and if you didn't make quarterly payments with a personal check to offset the fact that you screwed yourself and didn't have any deducted on your payroll then you're going to be in trouble.
In this instance, you still wouldn't face jail time, since you haven't done anything illegal at this point. You just better hope that you have the money in the bank to pay your taxes as well as any fines and interest when April 15th comes around.
As the article I posted above states, a single person with zero dependents would ideally claim two allowances on their W4 form to pay the absolute minimum with each paycheck and not underpay.
This is not trying to pull one over on the IRS. SMART people do this every year. I've been doing this for 15 years and

Mexico paying for the wall was actually one of the few issues on which the Trump 2016 campaign released a detailed policy agenda. It’s still up on his website, in fact, and it explains that coercing Mexico into paying for the wall will be a simple matter of invoking Section 326 of the USA Patriot Act to “issue detailed regulations” under 31 CFR § 130.120-121 to block remittance payments from unauthorized residents of the United States back to friends and family in Mexico.
According to the Trump campaign, “It’s an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year.”
More at https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/Pay_for_the_Wall.pdf
But my doubts are growing. I’m starting to think Mexico isn’t going to pay for the wall despite all of Trump's careful planning.
Doing a little research and I find
www.steptoeinternationalcomplianceblog.com/2016/04/trumps-mexico-remit
tance-proposal-goes-inexplicably-awry/
They go on to argue in some detail that using this regulatory mechanism would likely impede a lot of legitimate commerce while doing little to reduce remittances to Mexico. Trump, it turns out, was not really as well versed in the policy as he portrayed himself to be.

Good to hear you have figured out the tax thing, the heating fuel thing, and the working-for-a-living thing. Could you help Trump figure out the Wall thing? He tweeted today:
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
The Democrats, who know Steel Slats (Wall) are necessary for Border Security, are putting politics over Country. What they are just beginning to realize is that I will not sign any of their legislation, including infrastructure, unless it has perfect Border Security. U.S.A. WINS!
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1075729672628068353
At the time he tweeted it, it probably seemed perfectly reasonable. But now Trump is out there saying that America can’t fix its broken infrastructure unless Congress also agrees to pay for the wall that Mexico was supposed to be paying for. It’s weird, and it’s enough to make you wonder what else he may not be telling the whole truth about.
If you would, 6ix, please help Trump on the Wall thing. He is hopelessly muddled and could use your incisive mind. First Trump refused to sign any budget deal that didn’t include $5 billion in wall funding. Then he caved in. He’d just fund the wall from “other” sources. Now he’s changed his mind again. Congress has agreed on a short-term budget bill to avert a government shutdown, but suddenly Trump won’t sign it unless he gets his wall. “The President is continuing to weigh his options,” says Sarah Sanders.
Trump is, by nature, a lousy negotiator. But he also can’t be taken at his word, and this makes him a terrible negotiator. What’s the point of even trying to deal with him?

The Democrats, whose votes we need in the Senate, will probably vote against Border Security and the Wall even though they know it is DESPERATELY NEEDED. If the Dems vote no, there will be a shutdown that will last for a very long time. People don’t want Open Borders and Crime!

The legislation is expected to fail in the Senate, where Democratic votes are needed to top the 60-vote threshold. The White House announced the president will meet with Senate Republicans at 10:30 to discuss next steps. Meantime, Mr. Trump sought to pin blame for a funding lapse on the Democrats — a reversal from his vow in a combative televised Oval Office meeting earlier this month that he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security.”

Uh-huh: "I ALWAYS claim 2 dependents up front even though I'm single and I'm my only dependent."
Make sure you clean it up for the IRS.
Here's a little tip. When your taxes are simple enough to do a two page 1040 form and you make between $10,000 and $60,000 the IRS isn't going to waste much time on you as long as you're not driving around in a Bentley.
That's not to say that you should try to cheat. One thing you don't want to do ever is try to pull one over on the IRS. They will find out.
The semantics that I used were perfectly sound, BTW...
The company that I work for doesn't have a standard W4 form that you fill out with a pen, and doesn't even make mention of allowances. It's an online system and they ask you just a few questions to fill out. One of them is how many "dependents" you're claiming for the year, which I chose "2".
The end result is the same and this is no different than filing for two allowances. It doesn't matter at all to the IRS what you put on the W2 form so long as you pay your owed taxes and aren't lying about your actual dependents when it comes to 1040 time.
Once again I'll mention that if you overstate your dependents/allowances on your W4 form then you're opening yourself up to paying too few taxes to the government and being charged fines and interest on a quarterly basis for underpayment. At this point you've still done nothing illegal, but you will run into trouble if you don't have the funds to cover that come April 15th.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

He hasn't even decided how much to pay: Is it a $5 billion or $8 billion or $12 billion or $18 billion or $25 billion border wall? Nobody knows! Not Trump! He has used all these different numbers. Sure thing, Second. I'll even go a step further and do a conference call with Putin. We're all old friends.
My first suggestion in the meeting is to put a voluntary tax on the uber-rich like yourself. You can opt out at any time. I know how much the wall means to you and how all those tax savings you're getting during the Trump presidency is burning a hole in your pocket. I'm sure there are others like you who would be happy to fund it.
Maybe we can trade more Uranium to Putin to fund some of the wall too? I know he's been extremely depressed since Clinton lost and she wouldn't have the power to keep the Uranium flowing. Poor guy. It's been keeping him up at night.

Hillary promised there would be no tax cut for the wealthy. Trump promised there would be no tax cut for the wealthy. Only one of them was lying. Which one? Funny old Trump said about his new tax law, “This is going to cost me a fortune, this thing, believe me. This is not good for me."
www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/11/30/president-trump
-says-the-tax-bill-will-cost-me-a-fortune-thats-false/
He even asserted that his personal tax accountants “are going crazy now” but that he didn’t care because he is now the president and “this is a higher calling.” Not true. This week Trump told other not truths and Trump voters are not offended.
Trump claims the wall would save $200 billion per year. If Trump actually believed the numbers that he writes, he would be willing to give the Democrats some small token in exchange for their votes, but he knows his numbers are fake:
"Hundreds of $Billions" https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1076087536240480257
"BILLIONS of dollars a month" https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1075197397217828864
"200 Billion Dollars a year" https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1075011751165485056
I read an article that explains why Trump will offer the Democrats nothing in exchange for their votes approving the wall.
It is because the entire point of the shutdown is to please his base, which would be angered if he paid to get the "must have" wall:

President Trump’s decision to hold firm on his demand for funding toward a border wall and allow the government to partly shut down is a recognition that he is going to sink or swim politically in 2020 by standing with his base.
It also suggests that, however tumultuous the previous two years were, this week is a taste of what’s to come and a sign that partisan warfare is going to get more fierce.
This week, the White House signaled that Mr. Trump was going to drop his demand for a border wall to keep the government open. But some of his most loyal conservative supporters unleashed a torrent of uncharacteristically harsh criticism. “Fox and Friends” hosts complained; Rush Limbaugh fumed; and Ann Coulter declared that without the wall she wouldn’t vote to re-elect Mr. Trump because he will have presided over a “joke presidency” and “scammed the American people.”
According to a Quinnipiac poll, American voters opposed setting off a shutdown over border wall funding, 62 percent to 34 percent. But Republicans supported the move 59 percent to 33 percent. Poll results were not broken down further, but among Mr. Trump’s core supporters, enthusiasm for a border wall showdown was most likely even stronger.
https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2590
President Trump, in other words, faced a classic political quandary of having to choose between his party’s base and the general electorate. His decision shows that he’s concluded his best path to re-election runs through appealing to his base. And he’s probably right. Compared with that of other presidents, Mr. Trump’s approval rating is relatively inelastic, so there isn’t really an option of his winning over moderates by co-opting the message of his opponents, as Bill Clinton successfully did after Democratic losses in the 1994 midterms. Mr. Trump’s own unorthodox political rise has taught him that the road to victory lies in energizing a devoted group of supporters.
Any window for Mr. Trump to govern from the center has long since closed. Attempting to pivot now will win him no new fans, and it will only alienate his most passionate supporters, depriving him of his biggest political asset just as the 2020 presidential election enters its preliminary stages.
There is no vow that defined Mr. Trump’s campaign more than his promise to build a border wall. If he is going to enter the campaign in the embarrassing position of not having fulfilled that pledge, at the very minimum he’s going to have to show that he exhausted every option at his disposal and fought for the wall tooth and nail. A high-profile government shutdown battle is a way to accomplish that.
Most likely, perhaps at some point after House Democrats take control, Mr. Trump will be forced to sign a bill without wall funding, as he will no longer have the votes for it in the House. Coming off a huge electoral victory, Democrats aren’t about to surrender and give Mr. Trump what would be the biggest victory of his presidency.

I'm not sure that Trump voters in the lower 50% of the national income understand what "negotiating" means. Negotiating is not just about how many guns you bring to a fight; it is also about how many gifts you bring. If Trump offers the Democrats something valuable, say Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the Democrats would offer something valuable like a complete and beautiful wall. In exchange for $7 billion for the best wall ever built, the Democrats would take the 700,000 active DACA recipients being legalized by Trump. That's $10,000 per DACA.
If Trump is smart, he will insist on getting $100,000 per DACA. Then he and the Democrats can split the difference and make it $50,000, equal to $35 billion for the Wall. But I'm not sure Trump read his own book on the Art of the Deal. His ghost writer on that book was not impressed with Trump's knowledge of deal-making and the writer had to invent great stories about how smart Trump was.

That would be the Democrats, who don't need a Wall and, I am pretty sure, won't vote for it until Trump gives them something of equal value. If he won't, then the Democrats won't help him and he won't get the Wall he thinks he can't live without and the shutdown never ends. But if Trump is faking that the Wall is a life-or-death need for himself, then the shutdown is all for show. The government will reopen when Trump gets temporarily bored with his histrionics about his Wall.

"I can't tell you when the government is going to be open. I can tell you it's not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they would like to call it," Trump promised in the Oval Office after a Christmas call with US troops. Maybe he really means it. Maybe not. Nobody knows except Trump, because his promises are only good for one day, but most Democratic Congressmen don't believe him and will patiently wait years until he gives them something of value in exchange for their vote on the Wall.

Guess which president he was talking about?
I will give you a hint: In a 2013 interview with Fox & Friends, Trump said the president should be fired if there’s to be a government shutdown, as the responsibility for such a failure “always has to be the top.”
Do you give up, JSF?
Trump didn’t get into the specifics of why the federal government actually shut down. He just said President Obama didn’t get “everyone in a room and lead.” Here’s the full interview:
Fox reporter: Who’s getting fired? Who’s going to bear the brunt of the responsibility if indeed there is a shutdown of our government?
Trump: Well if you say ‘who gets fired’, it always has to be the top. I mean, problems start from the top and have to get solved from the top. And the president’s the leader and he has to get everyone in a room and lead and he doesn’t do that. He doesn’t like doing that — that is not his strength. And that’s why you have this horrible situation going on in Washington too. It’s a very, very bad thing and it’s also embarrassing worldwide.
Trump has shown he’s unable to get “everyone in a room and lead.” The White House held a meeting with lawmakers on Saturday, but only Republicans attended. Maybe Trump should read The Art of the Deal?

The most important part of the entire promise Trump made in 2016 was that Mexico would pay for the wall. Make no mistake, that was the very heart of the pledge, making clear that it was not just a physical barrier but a symbol of our restored strength. This is something Trump has always been acutely aware of; in a phone call on January 27, 2017, just a week after he took office, Trump begged then-president Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico to stop saying that Mexico wouldn't pay for the wall. "If you are going to say that Mexico is not going to pay for the wall, then I do not want to meet with you guys anymore because I cannot live with that," Trump said, explaining that "this is the least important thing that we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important." Peña Nieto refused to budge, saying that "this is an issue related to the dignity of Mexico and goes to the national pride of my country."
Peña Nieto was no fool. He knew that paying for the wall would be a national shaming for Mexico, which was precisely the point. Trump promised his supporters that Mexico's humiliation and subjugation would be the vehicle for the restoration of their own dignity and pride. Now Trump wants Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to be the next Peña Nieto.
This month Trump promised his supporters that Democrats' humiliation and subjugation would be the vehicle for the restoration of their own dignity and pride. Didn’t work with Mexico. Won’t work with Democrats.
And what does Trump say now? He can't possibly admit that it was a preposterous idea from the beginning and anyone who believed Mexico or Democrats would pay had to have been an idiot.

I see a similarity between Trump’s promise to keep the government closed until he gets $5 billion for Trump’s Wall and his promise to raise pay: he bragged to troops about a fictional giant pay raise he got them.
The president told military personnel in Iraq that they’ll get a raise of over 10 percent, their first in a decade. But it’s 2.6 percent, and they get a hike every year. He told the troops that other people wanted their raise to be smaller, but he fought for a double-digit boost.
“We had plenty of people that came up. They said, ‘You know, we can make it smaller. We can make it 3 percent. We can make it 2 percent. We can make it 4 percent.’ I said, ‘No. Make it 10 percent. Make it more than 10 percent.’”

The real question is, who would even notice that the government was shut down right now unless it was on the news?
Nothing feels different down here with the majority of Americans who live in poverty.

I had heard clips of Nancy stumbling over the phrase "Christmas Shutdown" before it happened. Now I don't hear them, it sounds like crickets from the Left. Apparently only Trump wants to end the Shutdown.
Are Government Employees still on Holiday Vacation, anyhow?

Quote:Trump wants the Democrats to give him a $5 billion gift for his reelection campaign. Until they do, he has shutdown the parts of the government that he can. Since he could repeat this stunt as many times as he dares, simply by ordering employees to go home until he calls them back, the Democrats cannot give him what he wants or else he will keep doing it over and over. The only way to teach Trump to never do this again is to let him suffer the consequences.

The Democrats wouldn't have to discipline Trump if Congress was more like a board of directors. Congress could have fired the Chief Executive about 48 hours after he refused to do his job and replaced him with V.P. Mike Pence. Congress can do it quickly because there is no 48 month long minimum waiting period in the Constitution to fire a President. But like declaring war, which Congress has not done since 1942, it does not use all the powers listed in the Constitution.

Well, now the Government Shutdown has lasted for 13 days of Government. That is if you include Christmas Eve Day - and every Government Office I tried to contact that day was closed, so it might be really only 12 days.
All those Democrat voters who aren't getting paid are getting whiny.
The 2006 SFA with the 2007 Amendment already gave Trump the authorization to build the Wall, just not the money.
The Army Corps of Engineers already has $13.9 Billion of discretionary spending, so they could start building tomorrow. I heard talk of another $5 Billion in available funds which could be used, already sitting around.
Once Nancy gets her head out of her bung, these finds could easily be resupplied.

When my old man called me yesterday he got sidetracked right after I answered the phone. Something about the "government shutdown". I asked him what about it?
He said that his wife just mentioned that her sister had heard that EBT payments (food stamps) were going to stop being made because of the shutdown.
I called bullshit on that. 100%.
There were small and isolated riots breaking out in the past when EBT was down only for a day or two. I don't believe it would ever happen on a national scale for any amount of time, let alone an extended one. This is nothing more than left-wing-media fear mongering.
And on the almost 0% chance that I'm wrong about this, it will be ENTIRELY the Left's fault. Very little government actually ever shuts down during a government shutdown. VERY LITTLE. Food stamps play an extremely important role in our society in 2018. Cutting those benefits overnight for as a political move would be extremely reckless, causing much civil unrest and untold amounts of property damage and almost certainly putting people's lives in danger.

Trump discarded his leverage from the very start, by declaring for the cameras that the budget shutdown was his decision, his responsibility. When the shutdown began to hurt, Trump and his surrogates hastily tried to transfer the onus — but it was too late. Everybody knew that it was Trump’s doing, and that it was done for reasons rejected by large majorities of Americans.

The funding lapse has raised concerns about how long major federal nutrition programs, including SNAP and school meals programs, can continue to operate without a spending fix from Congress.
The Democrats need to come together and fix this part of it. Now.
Though they will be getting the benefits through at least February now, because somehow $4.8 Billion seems to have magically appeared out of thin air when this whole damn thing is over $5 Billion being appropriated somewhere else, I can't be the only one who thinks that giving these benefits a month early to millions of people who are among the least likely to be able to budget and plan is a terrible, terrible idea.
Democrats have the house, as some here love to point out every chance they get as if it were some big secret. They need to pass some EBT legislation now that is completely removed from any other issue.
The GOP controlled Senate as well as Trump himself would pass it. It would be political suicide to do otherwise.

That's not what I had in mind. They call it a "standalone" bill, but it's not a standalone bill.
If they really care about keeping riots from breaking out, they will pass a true standalone bill effecting only EBT benefits when this one likely gets shot down. People who want their tax returns can wait.

Quote:Trump won't sign ANY of the dozen bills the Democrats already passed about funding the government. Maybe if they broke the bills down into smaller pieces, a gross load of bills, 144, Trump would sign one, maybe? Give in to crazy man Trump? That would be crazy for the Democrats to do. Trump needs to come to his senses and start paying the air traffic controllers and the meat inspectors and he needs to stop whining for a wall, like a dog wanting a delicious doggy treat.

The Democrat already passed a bill that would allocate funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a top priority for lawmakers concerned that millions of Americans could lose access to food stamp benefits after temporary funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture runs out at the end of February. Trump does want to sign it because it does not include a Wall.

I've got the solution: every bill from the House will include another 1,000 feet, no, make it 500 feet of wall. Trump only gets a wall if he signs. They could easily pass 4,000 bills and give Trump a little bit of his wall with each signature. That's how you train a dog to do tricks, give them doggy treats, but not too many at once or the dog gets fat and doesn't learn. The Democrats could train Trump with Wall treats.

Trump doesn't want to sign it because it includes a lot of other stuff not related to EBT and it doesn't include funding for the wall. It's not a standalone bill, and anybody "reporting" that it is, is a peddler in fake news.
If I were Trump, I would state loud and clear right now that he is 100% behind full funding of the existing EBT obligations and would sign a bill tomorrow that was EBT exclusive which would provide continued funding for EBT benefits for as long as the shutdown lasts.
Democrats would immediately cave because then it would be loud and clear that the burden is 100% upon them if there was even a mere hiccup on EBT payouts.

Data from the Fox News Voter Analysis of the midterms www.foxnews.com/midterms-2018/voter-analysis indicated that a majority of voters opposed the wall in states worth nearly 400 electoral votes (270 are needed to win) including in several states where the president’s approval rating was above water in the poll, like Ohio and Florida. Even so, the wall still isn’t popular in Michigan or Pennsylvania, important battleground states. And voters in Ohio, a politically similar state, opposed the wall.
