BOOM! Studios has announced a Dec. 12 release date for a second printing of Firefly #1, which sold out its initial printing before its Nov. 14 release.
The new printing will feature a cover by Kirbi Fagan spotlighting Kaywinnet Lee "Kaylee" Frye.
"We're thrilled by the response from retailers and fans to this crucial new chapter in the Firefly mythology, as Greg and Dan finally address the elephant in the room: what really happened during the Unification War?" said Jeanine Schaefer, editor, BOOM! Studios. "From here on out, we're moving at a breakneck pace, asking tough questions about the controversial decisions Mal and Zoe have made, and introducing important new characters who'll make you think differently about what you think you know about Serenity's crew."

It is... a comic book. I mean, definitely a Firefly comic book.
I would put it on par with the Dark Horse comics, probably comfortably mid-pack (so far).
For comparison, I rate the Dark Horse comics in the following order:
1-Those Left Behind - a good "Season One finale" and bridge to the movie
2-Better Days - a fun "lost episode" that might rate #1 if the conclusion weren't marred by some logic flaws
3-No Power in the 'Verse - mostly harmless. Some interesting ideas, but ultimately lightweight stuff.
4-Leaves on the Wind - tremendous potential here that remains largely unfulfilled.
5-Float Out - good as a "wake" for Wash, but overall, doesn't add much to the 'Verse.
6-The Shepherd's Tale - some stories should remain untold. This was one of them.
I have not included the shorter one-shots, and, looking at the list, it strikes me that Brett Matthews was able to get far more story out of 3 issues than other folks did with six. Given that the new comic is supposed to go 6 or 8 issues (I think), that doesn't inspire confidence.
It's hard to judge based on one issue, but my guess would be that it will rank somewhere around Better Days or No Power in the 'Verse, as an entertaining - but perhaps lightweight - "missing episode." They've chosen to focus on the "secrets of the Unification War," which, to me, at least, seems less interesting than focusing on the current situation and interactions of the crew. Time will tell.

Firefly #3 was a heck of an eye-opener to what actually made Mal and Zoe so wanted after the events of the war. What they did had to be significant, and the reveal did not disappoint. The only question now is how they will get out of this . . .

You know what's funny? I buy these comics, I read these comics, I can't tell you the plot line of just about any of them.
I can't imprint on my memory anything that doesn't require imagination. I can tell you plots of books I read 30 years ago in detail, I couldn't tell you what happened in a comic I read twice yesterday.
