How safe are these links for downloading TWO? I would download the comics onto a thumb drive but even so.

There are choices for file hosts to use with each new firefly comic - UFILE, MEGA, MEDIAFIRE, ZIPPYSHARE, etc.
I pick Mega out of habit and because Mega file servers are in New Zealand, where I have never been, which makes me feel I am importing an extra-special Firefly experience from the other side of the world, far from Texas.

If they're PDF files, yes... They can have viruses inside of them. But simply downloading the file won't unleash the virus on your computer. You can download the file and then run it through a few scans of your antivirus and malwarebytes (after making sure they're up to date). There are even online websites where you can upload a file and it will scan them for you if you wanted to be doubly sure before opening them.
If they're the 2nd batch of formats, all those extensions actually are is zip archive files. CBR=WinRar (.RAR), CBZ=WinZip (.ZIP), CB7=7Zip (.7Z), CBA=WinAce (.ACE) and CBT=.TAR (a Unix/Linux archive file).
Just like the PDF files, simply having these on your computer won't unleash the virus. You'd have to open them. Run them through the same anti-virus/anti-malware programs first.
An additional note if they're in the second batch though...
Since they're archive files, all that is inside of them are images. Instead of being in PDF format which is set up universally to be opened in-full by any program capable of reading them for you to scroll through, you would need a special program to view the contents of the archived files in similar fashion, otherwise you'd have to open each image individually in Paint or similar image software on your computer.
THIS is where you need to be careful here, even if all of the files themselves are virus free.
It looks as though quite a few of these "Comic Book Readers" over the years have come packed full of malware, viruses and other bloatware that you don't want on your computer.
It's been several Windows generations since I've used any CBR readers, so I don't have any personal recommendations, but do some research before settling on one and installing it. There are almost certainly ones out there that you could pay a modest fee for to make sure that you're putting something legit on your device.
P.S. Putting them on a thumb drive wouldn't protect you at all. In fact, these days you need to be careful where you even buy your thumbdrives from since they're a great delivery vehicle for viruses by online scammers. (As in, unlike needing the necessary step of you opening a file to unleash the virus, you started the virus process the second you put the drive in your USB port through the use of shady auto-run code the scammers put there).
Personally, I have an old computer that I use whenever I need to do anything like this. One day if I ever spend the money, or if the prices finally come back down on new computer parts to something resembling reasonable, I'll be using virtual operating systems within my system for all of this without the need for a 2nd computer dedicated to the task.
It's a lot easier to just frag a screwed up virtual machine that you've already backed up than it is to reformat your compromised system and re-install the OS, the chipset and all of your programs from scratch.
